Title: Bible answers
Post by sprintcyclist on Mar 23rd, 2007 at 11:53pm
If anyone wants an answer about anything I will try to give it to them here.
It will be purely a biblical quote, no interperetation from me.
If I don't know, I will say "I don't know."

If those who believe in Jesus Christ are offered salvation, what happened to all the people who died before Jesus Christ became the sacrificial lamb? Are they left to suffer for all eternity?

"For God will bring every deed into judgment,
      including every hidden thing,
whether it is good or evil."

Ecclesiastes 12:14

"The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done."

Revelation 20:13

Quote:
"For God will bring every deed into judgment,

whether it is good or evil."

So JC dying was unnecessary?

Quote:
"The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done."

When is this going to happen? So its not quite eternity, just a very long time!  ;)

Aushole, the way I interpret this is that God gave his only begotten son, Jesus, who died on the cross and all our sins died with him. It was a fresh start for man (and woman). :)

I have a question that has troubled me for years sprintcyclist and it is;

Why is Gods children born as a Jew or Muslim or Hindu? Why are we not all born Christians? Does God hate all these people that he made grow up under another religion? ;)

Hi Enviro,
Good questions.

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,"
      declares the LORD.

"As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts. "

Isaiah 55:8,9

"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."

James 1:27

Hope those help. I feel I have not really answered your first 2 questions.
Something may come to me later.

"During the fourth watch of the night Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. "It's a ghost," they said, and cried out in fear.

"But Jesus immediately said to them: "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid."

"Lord, if it's you," Peter replied, "tell me to come to you on the water."

"Come," he said.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!"

Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?"

Matthew 14:25-31

"Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."

Matthew 21:21-22

"If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing."

1 Corinthians 13:2

Hi ausnat, oceans and aloof,

AUsnat - hahha, waterskiing !!! mmm, can't recall turning a rock into water.  He did feed many from a few loaves and fish (about 5000 from my hazy memory).  In the old test someone (Moses ?) struck a rock with his staff and water cam out.

Oceans - sure. That was sodom and gemorrah. Only one person got turned into salt. We had a great discussion about that in cracker. Will post the chapter, as it is a ... complete story and quite short.

aloof - I just came here. My spiritual comments I keep to this thread, so do not force it down anyones throat.  There is no need to open this thread if it offends you.  I don't post quotes anywhere else as that woud be "out of place".

One of my favourite Bill Hicks quotes: "A lot of Christians wear crosses around their necks. You think when Jesus comes back he ever wants to see a smacking cross? It's like going up to Jackie Onassis wearing a rifle pendant."

Good ole spirituality  ;D

Jesus did feed the masses with a single fish and loaf of bread by the way... he just got everyone to turn around for a second first...

Hey, sprintcyclist,

Given that the Gospels don't agree with each other, which one contains the most errors and what are they?

Title: Re: Bible answers
Post by sprintcyclist on Apr 14th, 2007 at 10:24am
Hi rat ,
How are you ?
I thought the gospels did agree with each other ?
They are eye witness accounts of the same period.
Different people see different things during the same event. eg, witnesses to a car crash will report ..... dissimilar things. One person will testify the colour of a car, others will give differing estimates of the cars speeds. One person may say a driver was on their phone !!!  But the same event happened.

In a way, variations from different eye witnesses add to the authenticity of the event.
If witnesses give exactly the same report, word for word, that is probably bogus.

That is a good question and probably merits its own thread. Add one if you want.

No, that's a can of worms I don't want to open, thank you!

I just wanted to see you answer the question with a Biblical quote...ripped off!  :)

Anyway, love your logic.

"We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us.
And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ."

1 John 1:3

That was given for you rat.   :)

A thought Abu had arose.

Quote:
According to official church doctrine, you can. As long as you accept Jesus (pbuh) as your saviour, you can do as you please, and you're still saved.

That's not how I read it. Not at all.

"What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?"
Romans 6:1,2

"In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.
Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness.
For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.
What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means!
Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?
But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted.
You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.
I put this in human terms because you are weak in your natural selves. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness.
When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness.
What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death!
But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Romans 6:11-23

There is MUCH more like it through the NT.
I can post more if you wish. You get the idea though.
