Title: 7 votes decide the seat of McEwen Post by sprintcyclist on Dec 9th, 2007 at 11:19pm Libs call for recount in McEwen Samantha Maiden | December 09, 2007 THE Liberal Party is not conceding former tourism minister Fran Bailey's Victorian seat of McEwen which she has lost by just seven votes and will now demand a recount. Labor's candidate Rob Mitchell won the seat after the count was finalised on Saturday, in what is believed to be one of the closest margins in Australian electoral history. Victorial state Liberal Party director Julian Sheezel told The Australian this morning that he was not conceding the seat. "We've advised the AEC that we will be submitting a formal application for a recount on Monday,'' he said. "We are seeking a recount and we are not conceding the seat." http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,22894457-2702,00.html What pressure for the pollies concerned |
Title: Re: 7 votes decide the seat of McEwen Post by deepthought on Dec 10th, 2007 at 5:54pm They offered the electorate a huge bribe and it has paid off by a margin of seven votes hey? Quote:
Though late this afternoon the difference had fallen to five so maybe we will get Fran Bailey back in her rightful seat regardless of the bribe. Quote:
