Title: In the name of love...
Post by Grendel on Nov 3rd, 2008 at 11:51am
I now pronounce you man and wife...

I always had a problem with women changing their names.  I never saw it a necessary or desirable.  I would always see my partner as  ??? ???  the woman I fell in love with, and could see no reason to have her change her name because to me she would always be...  ??? ???. Apparently these days men are changing their names.

Is it necessary?

Mind you when it comes to children's names I still think they should adopt the fathers familial name.  Not a real fan of the hyphenated.  What do you think?

Yep, with you 100%.

Some girls want to, and if they do fine, but it should not be accepted, as expected.

Well, these days with avatars,  ??? ??? (or hottie_ho@yahoo.com), what does a real name matter?

I like my wife to have my surname.
Is part of me looking after her, she takes my name.
Also part of the children leaving their parenst and finding another person to statrt a fmily with.

Those hyphenated names are silly, what happens when a "Williams-Kinnearley" marries a "Johnston-Fredricks"?

I can see it at school for the new girl :- "Please everyone greet little Emily jane Williams-Kinnearley-Johnston-Fredricks"

just fyi- although I'm sure this will start a debate

I heard that in Islam women are encouraged not to change their names when they married as it is seen as degrading for the woman- I'll try to find the quote

for me...I dunno whether I'd keep my name or change it- I've always wanted a last name that starts with a B for some reason  :D
