Title: New multipolar world order
Post by tallowood on Nov 22nd, 2008 at 8:09am
Global Trends 2025

Quote:
A new US intelligence forecast identifies China and India as rising heavyweights in a coming multi-polar world ...

If current trends persist, by 2025 China will have the world's second largest economy and will be a leading military power

It could also be the largest importer of natural resources and an even greater polluter than it is now.
...
it did not foresee social pressures forcing real democracy in China by 2025
...
if the US security commitment to Japan weakened or if Washington moved significantly closer to Beijing, Tokyo would move closer to China.
...
The report said India will probably continue to enjoy relatively rapid economic growth, but the growing gap between rich and poor will become a more acute political issue.

"Indian leaders do not see Washington as a military or economic patron and now believe the international situation has made such a benefactor unnecessary," the report said.

"New Delhi will, however, pursue the benefits of favorable US ties, partly, too, as a hedge against any development of hostile ties with China," it said.
...
The report also identified three potential up and coming powers, all from the Muslim world but not from its Arab core. They are Indonesia, Turkey and Iran.

If the prediction comes true how will its outcome effect Australia?

A booming India and China will boost our economy, just like Japan did.

As for the political consequences - you'd need a crystal ball for that.

16 years later is time to check the forecast.

The US is broke.
As of July 2024 it costs $956 billion to maintain the debt, which is 17% of the total federal spending in fiscal year 2024.

NB. that's just paying the interest on the $35 trillion federal debt.

In Australia's region, Muslim states Indonesia and Malaysia are flexing their muscles in the global political environment.

Indonesia's population is > 283 million.

Malaysia's population >35 million.

Pakistan > 250 million

Bangladesh > 173 million.

White Australians are a regional minority.

These numbers are nothing in comparison to India, China and US all of whom have own interests in the region.

>740 Million Muslims in Australia's region is nothing?

US has no interests in Australia's region, unless you call causing regional mischief an interest.

India is nothing despite >1 billion people.

Indonesia and Malaysia are starting to flex their political muscles.

US has no interests in Australia's region, .

In 2022, bilateral U.S.-Japan trade in goods and services was worth $309.46.
U.S. goods and services trade with Taiwan totaled an estimated $160.03 in 2022.
US imported $77.48 goat-meat and rocket parts from Australia. Oz bought 32 Trump Bibles, half of them for Bobby the profiteer..
