Tamil conflict behind Sydney acid attack

Police say the defeat of the Tamil Tigers in Sri Lanka triggered a violent home invasion in Sydney last night, which left two men in hospital with acid burns.

Up to five men broke into a home at Westmead in the city's west just before midnight.

Two men were hiding in a bedroom but the invaders found them and threw acid at their faces.

One of the men was also stabbed in the stomach and had his ankle broken, he is in a serious but stable condition at Westmead Hospital.

The other man has been put in an induced coma and taken to the burns unit at Concord Hospital.

Both victims are still to be formally interviewed by police.

However, police believe the violence began yesterday afternoon, when a brawl broke out between Tamil Tiger supporters and a pro-Sri Lankan group at Westmead train station.

A man snapped off a Tamil flag from a car, prompting retaliation from two car loads of people.

That man is also being treated in hospital.

The President of the Sri Lankan Association of New South Wales has condemned the violence.

Doctor Ruwan Walpola says Sri Lankans and Tamils in Australia have managed to live in harmony.

"I'm really surprised that it has come down to this point so hopefully this will be a one-off incident," he said.

Westmead police say the victims of the home invasion did not know their attackers.

We should be very worried. This is a first from what I can remember and once an incident like this occurs - it's very likely to happen again. We can't allow new Australians to bring their political problems here and act upon them the way they did in their home country.

The Immigration Minister needs to be answerable for this and screening of migrants has to be more selective and thorough - although it's not going to happen.

Well we had the retribution after the so-called Cronulla riots mantra...  people stabbed and bashed.

We've had women raped....  

We have ethnic crime and gangs.

We've had flag burnings and marches against our government and society.

Women described as meat.

We've been described as sewage and various other derogatory comments.  I'm sure Abu is right up on all that stuff.

Second day of Muslim demonstrations in Athens

Greek riot police fired tear gas to disperse hundreds of Muslims who pelted them with sticks and stones outside parliament today during protests over what they said was the destruction of a Koran by a Greek policeman.
On Thursday, the Muslim Union of Greece reported that during police checks at a Syrian-owned coffee shop, an officer took a customer's Koran, tore it up, threw it on the floor and stomped on it. Police have launched an internal investigation.
About 1,500 Muslims marched through Athens to protest the incident, chanting "Allah is great" and carrying banners reading "Hands off immigrants".
"They started throwing rocks and sticks at police guarding parliament and the officers responded with tear gas and percussion bombs," a police official said.
It was the second protest since the reported incident after 1,000 immigrants, many from Syria, Pakistan and Afghanistan, marched to central Omonia Square on Thursday and smashed several shop windows and five cars.

"We want to live here in peace, we don't want trouble but we want the policeman to be punished," said a 30-year-old illegal Egyptian immigrant who identified himself as Said.


These guys need to taken by the scruff of the neck and shaken until they piss themselves. After that they need to be booted back to wherever the hell they have come from.
