Title: Al Gore environMENTAL Nero

I bet you thought EPA stands for Environmental Protection Agency.

Not according to the comedy team Penn & Teller, who during Thursday's "Being Green" installment of their hit television series on Showtime, tore Nobel Laureate Al Gore apart while referring to him as an "Egregiously Pushy A**hole."

Quote:
PENN JILLETTE: Three decades ago, pretty much everybody thought we had f***ed up the earth with careless and selfish fossil fuel emissions. We were heading into an Ice Age. Today, the same fossil fuel emissions are causing global warming. Hey, no worries. You may be a carbon sinner, but now you can buy yourself a clean, green conscience for cash. It's a new craze based on eco-guilt, and it's....bullshit!

Every day, TV, newspapers, and the Internet bombard us with a message that we're destroying the earth. Ice caps are melting, rivers are dying, polar bears are drowning, and trees are doing something. We f***ed up the environment beyond repair, and now we must pay the piper. It's no wonder so many people are suffering from green guilt. [...]

But if you want to do a show about the environment, you gotta start with that guy (Gore pictured on screen). It's an EPA thing. Not Environmental Protection Agency, Egregiously Pushy Asshole. You know who we're talking about.

Go to the link and enjoy the show...
And, be sure NOT to miss the segment that COMPLETELY debunks the carbon credit scheme (about halfway in).

No. I'm a firm believer in 'give them enough rope'.  They continually tout Al Gore as if he was a climate scientist. It's called shooting the Messenger and it's irrelevant.

Hey Grendel, did you hear what the newsreader said last night about swine flu? What a retard! What does he know about swine flu anyway. Where are his medical qualifications? I'll bet he made it all up - just like Al Gore.

Listened to an excellent review of 'Heaven and Earth' on the Science Show yesterday evening. Remind me to post a link to the transcript when it appears.

It was by a fellow Geologist who has known and admired Ian Plimer for 35 years......... until he did unspeakable harm to his reputation by publishing this book.

Well seeing as tho this has turned into the joke thread you should all get along to Piers Ackermans blog today.
There's Piers singing the virtues of none other than Ian Plimer, bugger its funny, but it gets better, seems as tho that goose from Family First Fielding has had discussions with Plimer and come to the same conclusion.
Talk about retards, bring on a double dissolution election and get rid of these retards like Fielding for good.

I was at a barbecue the other day, and a good friend was saying how anthropogenic climate change was total nonsense.

Some of the small business magazines persist in publishing articles by Plimer, Carter etc, and for those who don't have a good grasp of science, including most politicians, it's very seductive stuff.

A lot of otherwise sensible people have been seduced by this nonsense.

I just hope that the government scientists take the time to explain it to Fielding. It's very tempting just to say "This is a load of nonsense". That might be true, but they need to explain why it's a load of nonsense. It should be very easy to demonstrate why it isn't all caused by solar flares, once you refer to the data that hasn't been deliberately altered.

Plimer's book is full of contradictions. In one section, it states that CO2 does not drive temperature increases, where in other parts, it does.

In a way it's a shame that a good scientist has gone to seed like this.

Here's the Heaven and Earth review (so far just on audio):

Al Gore dear boy was given what award o the back of what most successful propaganda drive....  oh right...  how soon you forget.

There are very pertinent facts addressed in the show even if it is based in comedy.

As usual you will ridicule and IGNORE..  that's who you are apparently.

Old Abe said it best, "You can fool SOME of the people, All of the time"

It just goes to show the power of a good PR campaign, create the myth of confusion, and confusion appears.

Call it controversial, and it becomes controversial.

Call it denialist bulltish, and you get howled down for not respecting the valid, scientifically based questions still arising from climate skeptics.

The trouble is that the skeptics all pin their hopes on the absolutely unscientific work of people who dismiss the findings of real scientists out of hand.
They do not address the real science, by producing studies for peer review, they write articles, or books, to cash in on the political objections to accepting the concensus scientific opinion, and that unnecessary polarisation has led us to this silly situation where charlatans are being quoted as authorities, whose opinions hold precedence to the amassed scientific studies of thousands of real scientists.

If it were not so dire, it would be comical.

Unfortunately Mozz your opinion is not based in reality.

Mozz has actually hit the nail on the head. Smarter people than you have been drawn in, Grendel. I think you're fair dinkum with what you believe, but you're wrong.

I was talking to an meteorologist on another forum a couple of years ago. His arguments were becoming more and more convoluted until one day, he sent me a private message. He had come to the realisation that he had been misled. It all clicked. We were looking at exactly the same evidence, and he had been seeing what he wanted to see.

The thing that changed his mind was the trend of stratospheric cooling.
At the time, I didn't even realise the significance of that at the time, so it wasn't anything I said that changed his view. He worked it out for himself.

You don't have to be a climate scientist to understand how it works. It was a joint award. Should it have been awarded to Al Gore? Debatable.

The main problem with Al Gore is that he's a left-leaning politician. He tends to polarise the issue on political grounds for that reason. It isn't even a political issue.

At least Arnie - the governator has redressed the political balance a bit.

I could explain the concept to a kid at High School, and have done so many times. What's your problem?
