Title: U.S helps establish women's rights in Afghanistan Post by abu_rashid on Aug 16th, 2009 at 11:08am
So much for all the garbage propaganda about toppling the Talibaan to assert women's rights. We can see the Western puppet is really serious about preserving the rights of women.
'Barbaric laws' reverse Afghan women's rights Jon Boone, Kandahar August 16, 2009 America's puppet in Afghanistan Hamid Karzai. Photo: Reuters AFGHANISTAN has quietly passed a law permitting Shiite men to deny their wives food and sustenance if they refuse to obey their husbands' sexual demands, despite international outrage over an earlier version of the legislation that President Hamid Karzai had promised to review. The new final draft of the legislation also grants guardianship of children exclusively to their fathers and grandfathers, and requires women to gain permission from their husbands to work. ''It also effectively allows a rapist to avoid prosecution by paying 'blood money' to a girl who was injured when he raped her,'' the US charity Human Rights Watch said. In April, US President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown joined an international chorus of condemnation when The Guardian revealed that, according to the UN, the earlier version of the law legalised rape within marriage. Although President Karzai appeared to back down, activists say the revised law still contains repressive measures and contradicts Afghanistan's constitution and international treaties it has signed. Islamic law experts and human rights activists say although the language of the original law has been changed, many of the provisions that alarmed women's rights groups remain, including: ''Tamkeen is the readiness of the wife to submit to her husband's reasonable sexual enjoyment, and her prohibition from going out of the house, except in extreme circumstances, without her husband's permission. If any of the above provisions are not followed by the wife, she is considered disobedient.'' The law has been backed by the hardline Shiite cleric Ayatollah Mohseni, who is thought to have influence over the voting intentions of some Shiites, who make up about 20 per cent of the population. Mr Karzai has assiduously courted such minority leaders in the run-up to Thursday's election, which is likely to be close, according to a poll released yesterday. Human Rights Watch, which has obtained a copy of the final law, called on all candidates to pledge to repeal the law, which it says contradicts Afghanistan's own constitution. ''These kinds of barbaric laws were supposed to have been relegated to the past with the overthrow of the Taliban,'' a spokesman said. A July opinion poll by US democracy group the International Republican Institute showed that although Mr Karzai was up 13 points to 44 per cent since the last survey in May, his closest rival, Abdullah Abdullah, had soared from 7 per cent to 26 per cent. If those numbers prove accurate, it would mean the contest would have to go to a second round run-off vote. In that scenario, 50 per cent of voters said they would vote for Mr Karzai and 29 per cent for Mr Abdullah. Source: The Age |

Well it's an ISLAMIC STATE what did you expect.
Oh BTW you ignore once again that the reason people are in Afghanistan is because the Taliban fostered Terrorism and harboured terrorists. |

Afghanistan has a government which, rightly, wants to assert its own cultural values, in its laws. Afghanistan has an ISLAMIC culture, which endorses Sharia law. Consequently... Afghanis [MOSLEMS] must accept some responsibility, for what they, THEMSELVES, decide to adopt, as their own laws, .....including, accept responsibility, if those laws represent the oppression of Afghani women. ISLAMIC culture, is it Saudi Arabia??? ISLAMIC culture, is it Saudi Arabia??? .....including an image of moslem innocence. |

Stop deluding yourselves. Afghanistan is a U.S imposed regime that implements whatever the U.S commands it to.
Yadda, for the record so is Saudi Arabia, go and investigate their history, the regime there have been British (and now U.S) puppets for the past 200+ years of their existence as a clan. The British first raised them out of the deserts of Najd in order to counter the rising power of Muhammad Ali in Egypt, that began spreading across the Middle East (upsetting Britain's sick-man policy for the Ottoman empire). And since that time they've had a VERY CLOSE relationship with the Saudi clan. Backing numerous attempts by them to wrestle control of the Arabian peninsula, from anyone who looked like they were going to go against British interests in the region. Till this day they are loyal servants, not of Allah, but of the White House. You really need to look at the reality.. |

Just for you, abu,
Isaiah 32:1 Behold, a king shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall rule in judgment. 2 And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land. 3 And the eyes of them that see shall not be dim, and the ears of them that hear shall hearken. 4 The heart also of the rash shall understand knowledge, and the tongue of the stammerers shall be ready to speak plainly. 5 The vile person shall be no more called liberal, nor the churl said to be bountiful. 6 For the vile person will speak villany, and his heart will work iniquity, to practise hypocrisy, and to utter error against the LORD, to make empty the soul of the hungry, and he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail. 7 The instruments also of the churl are evil: he deviseth wicked devices to destroy the poor with lying words, even when the needy speaketh right. Dictionary, churl = = 1 an impolite and mean-spirited person. Ø archaic a miser. 2 archaic a peasant. |

This would be a wakeup for anyone who is able to remotely think independantly. The U.S & U.K completely own the Afghan government, yet publically they feign condemnation, whilst privately they do nothing. This is a clear sign they are hypocrites and evil doers. |
Title: Re: U.S helps establish women's rights in Afghanistan Post by sprintcyclist on Aug 17th, 2009 at 1:42pm if people say one thing and do the same, I generally believe that is what they stand for. The west has pretty much equality for women and ask for the same from afghanistan. afghan has elected their own govt and pass their own laws, some of which the west publically disagree with. |
Title: Re: U.S helps establish women's rights in Afghanistan Post by abu_rashid on Aug 18th, 2009 at 11:53am
sprint, when the West was going to invade Afghanistan, they used as part of the pretext, that women are so poorly treated there, and that it was their duty to remove such a system, and replace it with a democracy. Now they've done that, and it's not gotten better, it's gotten worse.
I watched a documentary on SBS yesterday about the plight of women in Afghanistan, and it was appalling, and they said it's all come about since the U.S invasion. For instance young girls are now often setting themselves on fire to escape their abusive and oppressive families. This practise was unheard of 8 years ago, yet today is becoming more and more prevalent. And in the news this morning, I read an article about Bamyan (the province where the statues were blown up by the Talibaan), and the people there said "We need to get the Talibaan back here, because nobody takes notice of us unless they're blowing up statues, and we can't even travel safely now because of the all the crime and banditry, whilst under the Talibaan, the entire region was extremely safe" (paraphrased). The facts on the ground tend to indicate that the propaganda against the Talibaan mistreating women was about as reliable as the WMD of Iraq, and that today, women in Afghanistan are being severely oppressed and abused under a U.S-imposed puppet government. So let us look at the facts, not the propaganda. The facts are women weren't setting themselves on fire prior to the U.S toppling the Talibaan, whilst today under the U.S-imposed government, women are severely oppressed and abused, to the point they feel setting themselves on fire is their only escape. I'm sorry, but 1400 years of Islamic rule never brought about such circumstances. Stop palming off the failures of your civilisation's effects on the people of Afghanistan. It's nothing to do with Islam. |

Title: Re: U.S helps establish women's rights in Afghanistan Post by abu_rashid on Aug 18th, 2009 at 2:33pm
As is evidenced in the thread _you_ posted in the Think Globally forum, the West put the dropkick in power who created an environment in which people decided they could act like this.
They effectively put into power an alliance (the northern alliance) of warlords, who rape and pillage whoever they feel like, and who've turned Afghan society completely upside down. None of this kind of garbage existed for 1400 years of Islamic rule, and it certainly didn't exist under the Talibaan either. Since it's only come about in the last 8 years, we can safely conclude it's linked to the corrupt Western-imposed regime. Especially when we see that it puts mostly warlords in charge of the country. And a Western-educated former U.S energy company executive as the cherry on the top. You have to realise people are effected by the government that shapes their society. People do not necessarily act out of cultural tradition alone. |

So let's take stock of what the U.S invasion of Afghanistan has brought to that country...
1) Drugs: Under the Talibaan, they were completely wiped out, and poppy growing was forbidden. Under coalition, they have become rife. Afghanistan has become the centre of opium production for the world. And drug addiction has risen extremely sharply. 2) Women's rights: Under the Talibaan, women were protected from rape. Under the coalition, women are raped, abused, and end up setting themselves on fire. 3) Crime: Under the Talibaan, people could move freely around most of the country, without fear of being robbed and killed. Under the coalition, most of the country is lawless, bandits rule most of the country, half of them are part of the puppet government. Mission accomplished? Job well done? |

helian,
Quote:
Got an independantly verified source for that helian? A lot of the stuff we heard about the Talibaan was total garbage, used to build up support for the eventual invasion. I've read stories of those who travelled there during Talibaan times, like Yvonne Ridley for instance, who paint a very different picture. I'd be more likely to trust those who actually were there, rather than some concocted story from National Propag... oops Public Radio. sprint, Quote:

Well why didn't you go live there under the Talibaan Abooo. I'll tell you why because their idea of an ideal lifestyle, freedom and democracy wasn't to your liking. You shirked it while you could have lived in a muslim paradise on earth. Well at least the men got a better shake than the women. |
