just wondering if you give me a bit of an explanation on this Biblical verse?

Quote:

Luke 19:27 "But these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slay them in my presence."

What's your take on it? I don't know if it's just me, but it seems to indicate that Jesus (pbuh) supposedly wants to slay all those who don't accept his reign... is this right? Or am I missing something?

Perhaps I've just misunderstood it, and you can clear it up for me, thanks in advance

hi abu,
my take on that one was this:
jesus only had one "set of emenies".
The phrarisees and religous leaders of the day. Against those he in other ares was angry.
with prostitutes and the crippled jesus was ok.

That the pharisees led people away from a spiritual life was what dismayed jesus.
it was them and religion (per se) that were jesus enemies.

Reply #22 - Today at 9:50pm      Interesting... but I'm not that concerned with who his enemies were...

More that he wanted them slayed? Symbolic or something is it???

i don't know abu. what do you think ?

it is not really in keeping with what jesus taught or did elsewhere.

Quote:
And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear.
But Jesus answered, "No more of this!" And he touched the man's ear and healed him.

yet he hated the pharisees, and they were always out to trick him.
"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven in men's faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to.
from memory, i think that line is in only one of the 4 gospels.
what do you think?

He is implying that this line makes Jesus just as bloody as Mohammed.

soren - abu's query is entirely valid.
it's one of those lines from the bible that is unexpected.

christianitys open to questioning.

Hint for the Biblically challenged: It's part of a parable. He's not actually telling people to do this, he's telling a story about a King and quoting the King.  ::)

Sprint - I'm surprised that this stumped you. The answer is to examine the context. Read the passage that it came out of.

(edit: removed last sentence - bit harsh? )
