Govt launches book on Muslim Australians

The federal government has launched a new book that recognises the contribution of some of Australia's 340,000 Muslims.

The book tells the stories of more than 40 Muslims, including footballer Bachar Houli and musician Asim Gorashi.

It also features some lesser-known Australians like school principal Jihad Dib and paramedic John Killeen.

Parliamentary secretary for Multicultural Affairs Laurie Ferguson says it is full of positive role models.

"It proves to every child that you can aspire to any occupation, in any field, and be a valued Australian citizen," he said in a statement.

Australian Journey, Muslim communities, is available at leading booksellers and through the government website www.immi.gov.au.
