DANGEROUS sex predators who are supposed to be closely watched are regularly giving authorities the slip and reoffending.

More than a third of almost 700 sex offenders - mostly pedophiles - living in the community breached their release conditions in the past two years and at least 70 have gone missing, sometimes for months at a time.

Documents obtained by The Courier-Mail show some were caught in sickening sexual acts involving children as young as four. Offences included rape, attempted murder, molestation, indecent exposure, stalking and assaults.

Others escaped authorities by changing address and tampering with electronic monitoring bracelets so police could not track them.

Of the 236 offenders caught breaching supervision orders, 163 faced further conviction, suspension of parole, jail or court action, while the remainder received a warning or censure.

In one of the worst cases, a supposedly supervised prisoner was caught with a 13-year-old girl whom he had drugged with ecstasy.

Police and Corrective Services Minister Neil Roberts admitted supervision order contraventions had increased, but said the Government could not prevent sex offenders from reoffending once released back into the community.

"I'm not making excuses here - short of actually shackling people in a prison cell 24 hours a day, seven days a week, we'll never get rid of people reoffending," he said.
"And every time someone breaches, you learn something.

"But again, we're dealing with human beings, criminal minds, who will look for devious ways of stepping outside of what they're required to do under these supervision orders."

Well......uurr yes Minister, they should be locked up 24/7 till they die. If that can't be done, kill them.

No second chances for criminals that torture, rape, murder or seriously abuse a child. The destruction of one life is already too costly.....these are the most heinous crimes from which there should be no return.

They only replicate themselves when we allow them back into the community.

I agree, killing them would be the best long and short term option, if we don't kill them sooner or later they get out and inevitably re offend.

What to do with them.

It's no wonder they're tampering with their electronic bracelets.

You put in the tightest possible parole conditions, and the chickens tend to fly. You let the community know who they are, and they run for their lives - from one town to the next.

I'm not defending paedophiles, but contrary to popular belief, they're much less recidivist than other criminals. If their lives are made unbearable when they get out, they'll fly the coup.

Wouldn't you?

sex crims ARE the most reoffending crims .
that's the stats.

they are guilty of making many other peoples lives unbearable.
victims of ex crimes have the hardest road to recovery.

it is the sex crims fault if they have any problems due to their own actions.

Doesn't matter who's fault it is. If you want to CREATE crime, make it impossible for someone to live anywhere. They'll shoot through and you've lost them.

You make sex crims sound like one all-encomassing group. Many "sex crims" get done for porn or, as the article above states, flashing.

What do you do - execute every "sex crim"?

The puritans here would cream their pants, I know, but it's not about making the lynch-mob happy.

It's about making people safe.

So, what do we do? Not monitor them? The ones who are giving the authorities the slip are most likely the most hardcore and unreformable members of the cohort, and maybe any amount of surveillance at all is going to induce them to disappear. Maybe it would be useful to compare data sets on the behavior of different groups and the level of monitoring exerted upon those groups.

I see no reason why we have to liquidate them all. Many pedophiles are of high intellectual ability and would make capable and conscientious labourers; enslavement is a much better option.

What stats? I don't see any stats in your post sprint.

I like the enslavement idea, but it should be extended to other types of offenders as well. Like for less serious offences, 5 years in gaol could be 5 years enslavement. Money earned from whatever job undertaken would be sent to the prisons to pay for food, guard wages etc.
