Title: Spinner needed for NBN roll out

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/nation/spinners-in-250000-pitch-for-the-task-of-explaining-broadband-plan/story-e6frg6nf-1225971755855

THE government will spend more than $250,000 to hire a public relations firm to help promote its $36 billion National Broadband Network.

Last week the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy heard pitches from five firms -- understood to include Hill & Knowlton, Ogilvy Public Relations, Weber Shandwick, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Royce -- with a brief to demonstrate how they would "sell the NBN" to the public.

It is understood each firm was allowed only one delegate to deliver a 20-minute pitch.

It is expected the government will appoint one of the agencies soon.

A spokeswoman for Communications Minister Stephen Conroy said the department ran the select tender using agencies listed on the commonwealth communications multi-use list.

The list was created by the Department of Finance and Deregulation as a whole-of-government roster to engage communications experts interested in working on government advertising and information campaigns.

This is one field of commerce that always thrives under hard labor.

Is that one six hundredth of one percent of the budget, or less ?
My calculator won't go that low

If it were MY product, I'd spend the equivilent on an instruction manual as well

you think the money is the main point here.. we do know that millons even billions dont faze you.. but really!!!!!

SELL THE NBN .. whats to SELL?

thats what I would be asking... isnt this a mandate why they got elected??????????????.

isnt this what Australians have been waiting more than a decade to get their hands on???????????????????????

isnt this the best thing to happen to us since sliced bread.. or at least the baby bonus?

what in the world do they need to SELL????..

$ 250.000 dollars.. it will be like the Where the Bloody Hell are You fiasco.

this has got to have something to do with the secret.. you remember 7 years silence..[ho.ho.ho.].. are they afraid to tell us how much we are going to pay for this?---------25 seconds extra speed we may get.

I get the feeling they dont want us to know that.

no kidding why would they want to sell a $43 billion dolllar already started NBN.????????????

The $250,000 is the budget to SELECTING a public relations firm - not the cost of the marketing they eventually do.

Each and everyone of us know the NBN's EVERY application ?

Perhaps you'd run them by ALL by us

Though I must say, I'm glad the "brochure" didn't reach the dizzying heights of the "information package" of the already doomed WorkChoices by the Howard Government - which didn't even deliver a PRODUCT - just a policy

$130 MILLION

FIFTY TWO times the promotion, information and education budget of the NBNi

On checking other media, you are correct
Very poor, ambiguous journalistic standard by the Murdoch broadsheet

..oh it did ... my daughterinlaw gets paid $25 an hour instead of $20 an hour on Fairwork..and all her contemporaries were given the choice to change over.

its all a matter of choice... but keep digging.. this like I said wasnt It a mandate...didnt you complain bitterly when it looked like rudd was dropping it... and then to win back in the polls it got resurrected all over again...and now they have to sell it????????....

workchoices from my memory wasnt a mandate..

if you go to the election with a promise to do something and het elected...

and when you proceed why do you have to sell it thats all I am asking..

every application  youve got me..

will it fix a broken hip?..will it give a premmy baby a chance?..will it do heart transplants for a $1.?

some of us have different priorities.. a bit hard for someone like you to understand that.. I do get that!

xxxxxxx

I was going to say... $250.000 and counting..having a friend that worked for Satchi and Satchi.. I was surprised to see that quote. I really didnt believe it.. mainly because nothing they have told us about costs.. ever works out the way they tell it. does it?

I though it was exceedingly obvious. $250,000 pays for at best one year of one public relations person.
