This is a bit of a damning indictment of Australian society and where it sadly seems to be heading.

I don't think we are this far gone yet, but I think the proponents are definitely there, agitating for it.

Australians like Ku Klux Klan, says former Klan leader
By Neil Keene From: The Daily Telegraph March 15, 2011 1:10AM

Are we as bad as this? ... a member of the Ku Klux Klan salutes the crowd during rally in the USA.

A FORMER Ku Klux Klan leader says racism in parts of Australia is reaching a similar intensity to what he saw growing up in the United States' Deep South.

Johnny Lee Clary, a former KKK Imperial Dragon who left the organisation after 14 years, found God and became a church minister, said yesterday that prejudice and hatred Down Under ran deeper than most people cared to admit, The Daily Telegraph reported.

"I've been coming to Australia for 12 years and I see just as much racism here as I have in America. A lot of people in Australia like to pretend that it doesn't exist but it does," he said.

Mr Clary is in Port Stephens to speak to school children about his life and how he came to realise that racism and prejudice are wrong.

In Australia and New Zealand, where Sinhalese and Tamil diaspora live in more or less in equal numbers, a "bitter competition" is going on in organising demonstrations. A few days ago, the Tamil demonstrators in New Zealand also faced intimidation from a Sinhala mob, which tried to snatch away the flags carried by Tamil demonstrators.

Earlier, during Tamil demonstrations, the Sinhala expatriates organised aircraft to display banners saying "Save Sri Lanka from Tamil Tigers," in New Zealand and in Canberra in Australia. On Saturday, the Tamil demonstrators displayed an aircraft-laden banner "Sri Lanka Stop killing Tamil civilians," in the outskirts of Melbourne.

The Australian reports that a community hall linked to a Uniting Church was burned to the ground early yesterday, carol singers were spat on and church buildings peppered with gunfire.

On Tuesday, Cardinal George Pell asked gangs of Middle Eastern descent not to target Christmas celebrations, after families were abused and gunshots fired into cars at a primary school's carols night in western Sydney on Monday.

Cardinal Pell said the attack in the multicultural suburb of Auburn, where Lebanese Muslims are believed to have turned on Lebanese Christians, was "apparently motivated by religious intolerance".

A bloody street brawl involving up to 100 people in central Adelaide has brought unwanted focus on South Australia's African community.

South Australian police say the brawl is the result of factional tensions that had been building up over the weekend.

Etc, etc, etc.

Tensions, ancient hatreds, and racism now present in the Australian community....I wonder how that could happen. Oh yes, that’s right, Australians are racists and bigots. Why can’t we learn from those peace loving groups, clans, and tribes from overseas. Why don’t we import them so that they can show us the way forward.

Our parents told us we sowed dragon’s teeth 40 years ago when the lunacy of multiculturalism escaped from the laboratory and started to infect our way of life.

In some twisted way you are kind of right Salad, it is the presence of these non-whites which causes the racism isn't it? Surely before they came, there would've been no racism at all!

I'm sending a group of dirty, filthy, dread-locked Feral Environmentalists over to your Mosque.
I'm sure you will show them how 'Green' your Islamic Cactus really is.

Quote:
The political infighting, geography, and burgeoning Catholic religion of the Croatian Kingdom of the 11th century caused Croatia to become a territory of the massive Kingdom of Hungary almost immediately. From the 13th century until 1526, the Catholic Croats lived under Magyar (Hungarian) hegemony almost without interruption. The proud Orthodox Serbian kingdom enjoyed independence and prestige from the 13th until the 15th century. Bosnia’s sovereignty is debated as to whether it was independent or a tributary vassal of Hungary like Croatia. It is generally agreed to have been largely independent. The extent to which it was Catholic or Orthodox is also debated. The independence of these Slavic national identities, to the great fear of the rest of Christian Europe, came to an end as the Muslim Ottoman Empire delivered the blade of jihad against the Balkans. From the 15th to the 16th centuries, the Ottoman Turks — in most cases without any provocation — conquered Christian Albania, the Romanian kingdoms (Wallachia and Moldova), Bulgaria, Serbia, Bosnia, southern Croatia, what is now Greece, and most of Hungary. Albania fell after a heroic resistance by the Christian Albanians under Gjergj Skanderbeg. Bosnia fell by 1485 with little difficulty. Serbia put a heroic and famous series of revolts against the invading Muslims in the fields of Serbia’s Kosovo in 1389 that left the Ottoman sultan Murat slain, and Belgrade (1456). Despite their heroic resistance to unprovoked conquests of the mighty Ottomans, the Serbs fell and became subjects of the Ottoman realm like their Bosnian brothers for the next 400 years.

The above account of race wars is but one page from the book of history.

Examine the dates: the 11th century, 15th and 16th centuries; 1485; 1389.  All those dates seem to predate the arrival of Cook and his prison ships on Australia's littoral. By extension, that means that racism existed in other parts of the world prior to the identity of Australians – white Australians that is. We know that aboriginals wouldn’t engage in any tribal wars. We also know that a war was recently fought between brown people in Sri Lanka; the tamils and sinhalese. The reason for the war: cultural difference. As far as we know there are no WHITE Australians involved.

Abu, the rules at Ozpolitics say that if a person wants to that person has a right to make an absolute goose of himself or herself. I do think a rule should be introduced to prevent people abusing that right.

Well said Abu. :)

Racism:

There are White People (originators of Politics and all things Water)
There are Black People (originators of Maths and all things Land)
There are Yellow People (originators of Sport and all things City)
There are Red People (originators of Art and all things Sky (Heavens))
There are Green People (originators of Military and all things 'Animals')
There are Blue People (originators of Medical and all things Food)
There are Grey People (originators of Science and all things Musical)
There are Brown People (originators of Religion and all things Fashion)

...but we all know that despite being the 'originator', all good things must be 'shared', let alone RELEASED (isn't that right Gollum) with everyone else, especially if it wants to be 'Global'.

Judaism, Christianity 7 Mohommedism is like Boyhood, Manhood and Elderhood.
...the inability for people to 'convert' through these Religions is like watching the violence of a Boy unable to become a Man, which ineviltably he never makes it to Elderly.
...and that is why the World is still suffering
...and that is why the Religious World is still suffering

I would like to see a formal gathering of all Three Monotheisms
via the top three representatives of each
appear on Australian Television or the Internet (or Both)
and sign a declaration, here on the safe grounds of Australia
to "Work together in bring literacy to Australia (and thus setting a good example for the World)" in defiance of the stupidity that is 'still' currently rendering Religion in the Middle-East 'oppressed' by Militarianism.

Do it in a Library of course. ;)
...and I'll Herald the moment.

.................................................................

We have always been a racist country....the way we treated the Aboriginals, the White Australia Policy....it comes from our English forefathers. It also comes from the top down, would anybody be giving a toss about boat people if the politicians weren't feeding the media.

Island mentality.....one day someone will invade and 'take over', that's the on-going fear.

Well 'reformed' anythings (smokers, drinkers, crims etc) tend to overreact and 'see' things worse than they are sometimes....

As for this being a 'damning indictment of Australian society' , have a check of this blokes bio..http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_Lee_Clary He is merely a snake oil salesman who has chanced on a way to make money on the talk show circuit by pushing all the right buttons among the daytime TV audience.  I doubt this clown could even spell Australia, let alone comment with any authority on the socio-political conditions of Australian society.

You seem yet another self-loathing white person with a phobia about the successes of their ancestors. ::)

That's easy for you to say. Is the above code or sumfin?

Here's my effort: cracked pepper and two tickets to the next Sydney Kings game is of no use to Big Kev now.

How did I do?

Code? You might think that, but I couldn't possibly comment.
I'm just a Library Ghost.

I must add: I only seek the top x3 Religious representatives of Judaism, Christianity and Mohommedism HERE IN AUSTRALIA
...ie: no need for the Pope to turn up so to speak.

I think you got the' Boyhood, Manhood' thing backwards in relation to the monotheist religions there Jas..

Islam is the 'youngest' and Judaism the 'eldest' in the cycle...

Depends on how you look at it.

If you mean merely preceded on a linear time scale, then perhaps.

If you mean retained the original beliefs and practices, then no.

Typical beat up, the comments are from a person who clearly has something to gain from that position, he wouldn't get any attention from the media or get abu all hot and bothered if he had said, "Australia is just like every other country, there are some racist people".
