Though Christianity was birthed from Jewry, the jewish laws are not applicable to Christians.

There is a recognition of the laws (10 Commandments and many more laws in the OT), but christians are not beholden to them.
Or to the penalty for breaking them thereof.

The quotes point to a juncture of the law, our sin and death.
Which is a bit uneasy for us.

The law states out where we sin, the punishment is eventually death.

This death may be a spiritual one, a removal of ourselves from a spiritual life, seperation from God or ........ whatever.

So, 'cause of all the sinning, the law holds these against us and denies us our spiritual position.

If the law was not there, would we be ok ?
Is it the law that is wrong ?
What was the point of the law, if it causes such discord ?

those that live by the law rely on thier own actions to be justified.
In effect they are saying "I am good enough by myself - look what I have done"


With Christians, we say the opposite.

One interperetation I see is that the law was shown to humans to show us how we should live.
All in all, the laws are pretty good, quite functional.

Humans being humans err, and keep erring.

Poor Paul, there is a wrestle on within himself. The sin within him continually tempts him.
Eventually, the cost of the "slip-ups" is a spiritual death.
It is impractical for him to atone for his every sin, and to never sin again.
There is no sin in God, so no sin can abide with God.

For any sin, a penalty is to be paid.
To "undo" a sin, a price is to be paid. Something real, something that costs.
In the OT the penalty was often the sacrifice of a dove, lamb or the like.
It is the blood of this sacrifice that pays for the sin.


Of course, it is possible for an innocent party to pay for your sin.
Imagine being fined in a court for speeding, it is quite legal for someone else to pay your fine, to supply you with a dove or lamb for sacrifice.

The fine is paid, you are free to go about your way.

This quote shows the melding of forgiveness and the unyielding law.

Jesus was possibly writing in the sand the sins of every man.
As they read their own sins, they realised they were personally in no position to stone that woman.
When someone has paid for your sins, it would show repentance to "leave your life of sin.......".
