Title: Arab pan nationalism and Al Qaeda Post by Karnal on May 7th, 2011 at 6:41pm
What do Arab nationalists think of Al Qaeda?
No need for Bible/Koran quotes, Christian fervour, or religious warfare. It's a political question. Forgiven in advance. |

Well I can tell you what they might've thought, if they'd have lived past the 1970's. Arab nationalism, and along with it the failed idea of pan-Arabism, died long ago, pretty much with the passing of Nasser, and the exposing of Saddam as a Western puppet.
In fact the very Islamic resistance movements you're asking about are what supplanted them. |

I'm not talking specifically about Nasser, I'm talking about modern Arab nationalism.
Are they fond of Al Qaeda? What do you think? You know what I'm talking about. Forgiven. |

Does not compute. Arab nationalism is a figment of your imagination. You are a victim of western propaganda.

Ah yes, of course. There is only Muslim resistance. All else is Western-propagated evil.
Liberty, equality, fraternity. All lies spread by the Western Zionist propaganda machine. A curse on the Muslim body-politic. There is no God but God. |

As am I. It is dead and buried, nobody believes in it anymore, nobody significant anyway. |

I see. No one in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya or Syria. Perhaps they prefer the caliphate? |

Polls of Egyptians have shown that yes about 80% of them support Shari'ah law being implemented, not just in Egypt but across the entire Muslim world.
I would think Tunisians, Libyans, Syrians and others would be pretty much the same, hence the reason the West has worked so hard to prevent their self-determination for so long, contrary to the public claims of wanting popularly elected leaders. |

I agree. The other reason, of course, is that it's a resource-rich region. Why else would the world forgive Ghadafi? But on this note, what makes a Ghadafi better or worse than a bin Laden? Do you support, for example, so-called terrorist attacks or paybacks like Lockerbie? Why is bin Laden a freedom fighter and Ghadafi isn't? The Egyptians should be able to create whatever laws they want in their own country. Keep in mind, however, that certain aspects of Shariah might render tham bankrupt - like ursury laws. Anyway, I see no reason why Shariah law can't change like any other form of jurisprudence, however this is implimented (although I think this is a fantasy). As much as Egyptians might want Shariah law, I doubt very much that they'd want Al Qaeda. |
