How would you rate them out of 10? Also, what about Julie Bishop and Wayne Swan?

I'd give:

Abbott - 2/10.
Gillard - 0/10.
Bishop 2/10.
Swan - 0/10.

I think you're being overly kind to bishop and Abbott.
Gillard-1
Swan-0
Abbott-0
bishop-0

None of the above deserve to be leaders of this country, Gillard only gets a 1 vote because she is less evil and less inadequate than Abbott, just. While Swan and Bishop are both morons.

Gillard - 5 /10

On key policy matters, she's actually doing ok.  Anyone with an ounce of telco knowledge knows the NBN is a great thing.  Anyone with a semblence of science, knows something must be done about climate change.  Both of these two things are easy to attack, and harder to sell, but she is sticking to them.

Swan - 3 / 10.

Swan is no financial genius, but he does what his advisers tell me, and thats just fine by me.  He's manage-able.

Abbott - 1 / 10.

I disagree with his mandate to bring down the government. In my opinion a good opposition attacks bad policy and lets though good.  By attempting to bring down the government he brings down the country.  Far to negative, and his climate and telco policy are just plain stupid and present significant soverign risk of breach of contract (ala Barry OFarrell)

Bishop - 4/10.

I'm warming to her. When not being a "no no no" Abbott style, her articles in the paper are quite intellegent.  But needs to develop her agenda rather than being everybodies deputy.

Abbott deserves a higher rating (7) as he is doing a splendid job as Opposition leader - holding the gov to account. He may or may not make a good PM but his is a cracking Leader of the Opposition.

Gillard is a lousy PM and she is doing a crap job (2). SHe may or may not be a good Opposition Leader but in her current role she is worse than Rudd. SHe hasn't been PM for a year - but people have stopped listening to her because we have all gone the bugger to sleep when she starts talking.

We are like the kids listening to this splendid Samuel L Jackson bedtime story: looking forward, in amazed disbelief, to what she is going to say next, but already laughing about how smacking incongruous it all is!! That's Gillard.

Abbott - A 10 for hanging on like a bulldog holding the most inept incompetent government in this nations history to account for their blundering backflipping ways.

Gillard - A 0 for being an inept incompetent lying unmarried athiest barren red haired soulless backflipping witch of a spinster.
Q. How can we tell when she is lying?  That's easy.
A. When her lips move.

I agree. They are all rubbish and undeserving of anyones vote. A real third force in politcs is way overdue. I had hopes for the Democrats at one point when I was young and foolish, but they let me down. Now I pin my hopes on independents.

I have not yet worked out if I am an optimist or a masochist. :-/

I think both 'leaders' (and I use that term very loosely) are very poor in comparison with what Australia has had in the past.

Title: Re: Who hates both Abbott and Gillard?

Using the term "hate" is already signalling that you are a bit of an extremist, and as such your views can be more easily discounted as being less valid than those of more moderate people.
We may dislike politicians, or even hate some of their actions, but reasonable people appreciate that it is a very tough job, and popularity is not a great indication of effectiveness.

I would rate Gillard a 3 out of 10.
I would rate Abbott a 2 out of 10.
I would rate Swan a 2 out of 10.
And Bishop I would give 3 out of10.

Rudd was a much better seller of his ideas, but his personal character seemed to have been so universally loathed by those close to him, that it seems to have been his undoing.
I have never heard anyone come out and say what a "nice bloke" he was, rather that he was an egotistical control freak seems the most common assessment.
Hawke was extremely popular as a PM, but very ineffective in my opinion, and I fear that leaders who wish to be loved, will always be somewhat ineffectual, as a good leader has to be prepared to make the hard decisions, be they popular, or not.
Keating could do that, and he was hated by a lot for it, but he was the best PM in my lifetime, and I bemoan the fact that there is nobody like him on the horizon, just a lot more "beige" would be leaders in the wings.

I would rate them -

Gillard 2
Abbott 2
Swan 0
Bishop 0

and that's generous.

I'd give Keating 7 and Howard 8.

Respect from me in a politician is more about standing up for what you believe and leading from the front.

I never agreed with a single thing Mark Latham said, but I respected his "This is my view, vote for me or don't vote for me".

Gillard. Does anyone really, hand on heart, know what she stands for?
Her opinion is influenced by public opinion of the time. You just have the feeling she'd jettison a policy in a heartbeat and have no issue with taking up the opposite stance if there was votes in it.

I 'hate' neither...but I'm not feeling remotely inspired by either of them...

Abbott continues to behave just as I expected he would - and I continue to abhor his obstructionist, destructive and treasonous antics.

Duly ignoring the negative media rhetoric about her - and I reckon that Gillard is doing much better than she's being given credit for - but nowhere near as well as I had expected.

What we need in a leader is responsible, altruistic, constructive and forward-thinking statespersonship - and there hasn't been much sign of this in Oz of late!

Abbott definitely scores a zero on each of those parameters - and Gillard isn't scoring much higher ATM...

Actually the whole problem of why he still has such a huge disapproval rating is because he isn't trusted and people DON'T know what he stands for.   His entire book had to be ripped apart once he became Opposition Leader, and since then who could ever forget his gaffe of admitting he only tells the gospel truth when it's written in front of him?  Not to mention that we don't have any policies out from him other than just opposition for opposition sake.   What's his vision for Australia? There's a lot of truth in what you are saying.
We need to remember, though, that Rudd only won because he was the non-Howard candidate.

The same is going to happen to Gillard. SHe will lose to Abbott (or Turnbull) simply because they will be the non-Rudd/non-Gillard candidates.
Funnily enough, after 4 years, non-ALP is just right.

Amazing....three pages and it seems that most are in agreement that our pollies suck, we are being ripped off by paying their exorbitant wages and "extras".

What can we do about this lack of political strength? We have to have a leader, so where do we get a good leader from?

Who knows? maybe this is how it will be from now on, political kindergarten, or at least until after the great depression, then we might get all sensible again.

I think that the consensus between left and right is actually a false one. I think the right hate Gillard because she's an ALP PM. While I've got nothing but contempt for her handling of refugees. As she said herself today, her policies on refugees actually make Howard look soft.

I support action on climate change, on that and the refugeee issue I see a lack of imagination, but a carbon tax seems a step further than anything the opposition is offering. The NBN is a good thing and quite courageous. On the other hand I think caving in to mining magnates was a criminal act of betrayal.

The country has a window of opportunityin which to show the rest of the world a vision of the future that is better. Where we might agree is that none of our politicians show they have any vision/imagination at all.

There has never been a good leader in all human history. Some have been lucky and others have not. That's as true of leaders of corporations as it is countries, but rather more obvious.

The evolutionary imperative is away from power centered on rulers and towards Democracy. What we need is a system that takes the next step which is to reverse the flow of power altogether.

yet we keep getting told how good things are and how many jobs they are goin g to produce???..never any details though..

this govt has stuffed it all up with their constant lies and backflips.. and deals that are not deals..

we have lost so much faith in govt since 2007.. it isnt funny any more.. we are now tarring them all with the one brush.

who ever wins the nect election will not only have a huge pile to sort out they will have to win back the faith of the general public..

gillard has a lot to answer for.. and those that helped her into this position need to stand up and be counted for that they are..empire builders.

With all due respect, Abbott is sounding just as crazed as Gillard.

Hello. My names Kevin. I’m from Australia, and I’m here to help.

Helping inoculate children against deadly preventable disease is a worthy cause, but committing $200 million dollars of Australian tax payer funded money is a bit bloody rich.

How many Australian kids are going to go hungry toady because they don’t have access to enough food?

How many Australian kids are going to sleep cold tonight because they don’t have enough cloths or blankets to keep them warm?

How many Australian kids will be sleeping in the cold streets tonight because they have don’t have shelter?

Maybe you should have given some though to welfare of these Australian people Kevin O7 before pledging $200 million Australian dollars to help foreigners just so you can look good.

Just for those who haven't voted
ALP - 1
LIB - 6
DD - 8

LOL...now it's 1:6:10 - and DD (Donald Duck, not Double Dissolution) remains well out in front...

By my reckoning, therefore, there's a lot of lefties who are disillusioned with the Gillard Labs and a few righties who don't think that the Abbott Libs are much chop eitherer...

Now, to force both sides away from the divisive and counter-productive sideshow politics of the lowest common denominator!

Why would any sane person vote Labor or Liberal while Julia Dullard, and Strop Abbott are the leaders of the parties?
In an exciting time in this countries history while we should be moving into the future we are floundering in the political doldrums.
We should get rid of both of them and put someone in charge who isnt influenced by weekly popularity polls...we need courage and leadership, not the cowardly self serving dipsticks we have in Strop and Dullard.

MP says miners 'pussy-whipped' by Gillard

Don Randall ... not having a good day.

Don Randall is again in the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

A federal Liberal MP has accused the mining industry of allowing itself to be "pussy-whipped" by Prime Minister Julia Gillard, according to media reports.

Don Randall, who represents the WA electorate of Canning, made the comment during a Friends of Mining lunch at Parliament House on Wednesday, which was attended by about 50 coalition MPs and senators, The West Australian newspaper reported today.

After hearing from the Association of Mining and Exploration Companies chief executive Simon Bennison and Cazaly Resources executive Clive Jones, Mr Randall rose to berate the industry for being too nice to Resources Minister Martin Ferguson and lacking fight against the federal government over its planned mining tax.

"The problem is that the mining industry is being pussy-whipped by Julia Gillard," the WA MP told guests, according to witnesses.

The newspaper quoted one Liberal MP as saying the choice of language was disgraceful.

Another said Mr Randall's comment was particularly ill-advised, given Labor's recent accusations of entrenched misogyny within the coalition.

Mr Randall told the newspaper it was "a tongue-in-cheek type comment".

"I'm not denying it. It's a term that's often used and I use it as well," he said.

Deputy Opposition Leader Julie Bishop, who attended the lunch, said she was not offended by Mr Randall's remark.

"I took it that he was talking about males who cower in the face of dominant women," she told The West Australian.

This morning a representative for Mr Randall said he would not be making any further comments on the "leaked" information.

If we ran out household and business like these morons - labrats & librats run Australia, we would have been bankrupt and living on welfare over a decade ago.

Yes, it’s a race to the bottom for both these cretins!!

Personally, I am bloody angry I cannot sack these clowns straight away like you can in private enterprise, and that we have to wait.

I would like to know how the tax payers got conned into paying the wages of the opposition when they can do nothing except ask the same questions that the media do.

Why are we paying wages to people WHO DO NOTHING?

How ironic, that the rabid self-serving mongrel Federal Liberal Leader Tony Abbott chose a compromising position which allowed the hole of Australia to be doG-fecked and bled-dry by the same mining parasites!?

ABC types sum up Abbot in these words (the 4 most prominent words in a word cloud, in descending prominence):

- negative
+ strong
+ honest
-  liar

Gillard:
- incompetent
- liar
- disappointing
- dishonest

Abbott has two positive words, Gillard none.
