You are the reason that we currently have Brown, Gillard and co in power. I hope, and know, that your electorates will remember that come the next election.

Get the facts right, The Greens have the power they have because the Australian population handed them a healthy proportion of the vote in the senate giving them the balance of power on there own. This has zip to do with the minority government and would be there even if Abbott had power leading to the same issues more or less. Abbott would have to negotiate with the greens or get no legislation through the senate. So please get it right and stop showing us all why you should stop posting on this subject |

Yeah great. just over 1 in 10 people voted for them. So they get to decide things for the 9 in 10 people that didn't vote for them. Gotta love the absurd proportional representation system. And people wonder why I (along with a massive majority) voted NO to this system in the recent referendum in Britain?? |

The Greens would have no power had they sided with the Coalition. Adam Bandt sided with Labor. You can't have your cake and eat it too. |

yep, it's much better to have unelected lords have authority on law. After all, us commoners need someone to control us. |

princess, as of the 1st of July the Greens hold the balance of power in the senate. That means that either Abbott would've had to negotiate with Labor, or the Greens to get any of his draconian thoughts passed as law. You really are a bit of a fail, aren't you. |

The Act of Parliament allows the elected House of Commons to override the Lords.

Actually i would think any change to the system would do the UK good. Strangely everyone seems to forget that the government who ever they may be can always negotiate with anyone in the senate to pass legislation. Most goes through without the greens mattering, some even goes through when they object but some will go through with there support. Funny the system here looks very good and works a treat, after all the problems we have look rather small compared to the mess the UK is. I have two sisters living there and they both are amazed at how bad things have got. When they were home recently they both thought Australia was looking good. |

And yet they can still delay the passing of legislation upon voting to do so. I'd rather an unelected body has NO say AT ALL on any legislation. Ever. |

It depends on your viewpoint and experiences. The UK has significant problems - I certainly am aware of that. I have close mates who not long back were out on their backside not in work because of the GFC. This probably isn't the thread for it, but its hard to compare the UK - which is a service based and financial services based economy to Australia which by complete bareass fortune sits on a tonne of natural resources where you dig it up and sell it to the Chinese. It's not that much different to comparing why Kuwait and Saudi look pretty decent economy-wise. Take away the natural resources in QLD and WA and then have a look at the Australian economy. A 2nd year economics studier could run that budget to a surplus. The UK has social issues as well which are of its own making however I'd also argue Australia is not learning from the mistakes we made in Europe on mass immigration of unsuitable people which contribute to these problems. |

For the matty troll, unfortunately even the easiest of things require a thorough explanation. He's still battling with understanding of why Australia is a democracy even if the GG is not elected by the people, but rather the parliament. I predict that by 2015, after intense focus group sessions with hundreds of mind maps, and a personally sought commission report, he might finally be able to understand... |

Yes, the 2010 election does highlight a defiency within our electoral system. Forcing people to give a preference to someone that they just do not want to vote for. |

Hardly mystery. I live in the USA but can't vote here as I am not American. Hence I am on the UK electoral roll and vote in national, local and EU elections. |

So you do understand how important it was to keep Abbott out of government then? - A real disaster narrowly averted. By the way there is no co power sharing arrangement in place. |
