Title: Behaviour of Real Estate Agents
Post by Aussie on Aug 2nd, 2011 at 5:37pm
I have always regarded 'them' as lower than shark shite, and on last Sunday, I was presented with an opportunity far too good to miss.  An Agent was discussing the state of the market with me, and announced with great conviction that interests rates would rise this Tuesday, today. I urged him to be more cautious but he was adamant (he subscribes to the Financial Review, don't you know....well I do, as he told me so) vowed and declared the certainty of an increase.  I again urged him more caution but he insisted he was right.  I had enough, and said, "Wanna bet?"  (Had in mind a carton of VB against a carton of his favourite.)  "Sure," says he, "$1,000.00."

I shook his hand and said, "Done."

Can't wait to see him.

But the moral of the tale is that these arseholes will spruik whatever shite comes to their mind when trying to influence decisions.

:)

RAs aren't the only people that make stupid bets based on their absolute, but incorrect, convictions.

I have won many a State of Origin bet based on some new south welshmans absolute conviction that it was their year to not get their arses kick from pillar to post.  ;D

Another (shocking) example of real estate agent behaviour which was recently aired on ACA :

Most of us know that when we sell our homes, we have to pay commission to the agent. But because of a real estate grey area, many home owners could be forced to pay more than one agent and more than one commission, for only one sale.

There's great advice given at the end of this footage. Please .. listen and pass on this information to anyone you know who is selling their property. It could save them a lot of heartache and of course money.

Yep.  The dregs of society.

Why do they insist on putting their pictures on billboards and in their ads in the paper?

Wouldn't piss on one if he/she was on fire.

the problem is that they get commissions. If they just got a wage and thats it it wouldn't be as shonky imo.

Will you pay me a wage to sell your house? I'd make sure it never sold and therefore guarantee my income ....

no they don't ... commission on rent averages to about $1500 per annum (in my area) .. commision on a sale averages to around $10 - 12 000..... I couldn't care less about the rent, and if I find an investor to buy the house, I may even get to keep both anyway

If you believe that get another agent to do the sale ... one who isn't managing your property that way there is no conflict of interest

Heh. there are no other agents. Captive clientele. And they like the rental commission more than the house commission cause the house is so cheep. And not just mine all of them in the area. I doubt very much that its the only place where this is happening.

Your in Brisbane? that makes no sense ... if your in a small town, go to a national agency like LJ Hooker or Coldwell Banker etc ... they don't need an office in your town to sell it

Well actually I did that. AND they said they would sell it for me. But then next day they came back and said no they weren't allowed to. Not being a real estate agent I dont know what happened there but I expect there are some lil real estate by-laws about that kind of stuff. I dunno. I am in brisbane yeah but the house is in another area.

Actually I did find out that if I want to sell commercial property I could sell it from anywhere.

Raine & Horne have just closed shop here in my town. Business is really slowing down.
Oh well, typical Bugs Bunny 'Western' economy, must take its recessional and depressional sleeps, while the tortoise economies keep moving along without a glitch.
