Title: Disunity is death Post by salad in on Nov 29th, 2011 at 11:41am
The bulk of the story below resides behind the Murdoch paywall.
Quote:
As fellow Ozpolitics poster Crazy Horse reminds us disunity is death and not backing the leader means that a trip to the political gallows will be the final outcome. Add the above sign of disunity to the vexing issue of *yellow cake (you can’t have your cake and eat it too) and according to Crazy Horse we have a party leader who is on the skids. Quote:
The bird of paradox may yet choke on yellow cake. With all our problems - climate change sounding a tocsin; rising sea levels threatening all but good swimmers; hospitals in need of equipment; etc - we have one of the major political parties worried about whether Bruce and Brian can get married. Australia - you're standing in it. |

In any case, who will remain Mr and who becomes Mrs - "outcomes" in heterosexual unions (borrowing Bob Oakeshott's favourite word). |

LOL what a nothing thread, no wonder hardly anyone has bothered to reply. Gillard has already allowed a conscious vote on this, BUT Abbott refuses to, he's still trying to tow the extremist hard line, even tho many in the Libs agree with gay marriage and want a conscious vote. In fact the man most likely to topple phony tony has called for one, Mal Turnbull.

if the govt calls for a conscience vote does it only refer to their own side?? in which case it would only be the left that would vote and the right would automatically be a NO..I dont pay much attention to these things...sometimes when it comes to something like this.. its a cop out to give a conscience vote..this to was brought up before the election.. |

Quite simply the conscience vote is to allow Gillard to save face. She stood firmly against same sex marriage believing it was popular with the electorate. Well she read that all wrong and now is slithering to find a way out without giving the opposition more amo. |

What do you mean, the majority of politicians or the majority of the community. I know we all live in our own bubble but i don't find people around me could give a flying flap landers about same sex marriage and those that discuss it find the whole thing laughable as marriage is a church thing and why would gay's want the blessing of the very group that has always oppressed them? just strange but if they want it who cares we have rather more important things to concern ourselves about. |
