Appalling standards of journalism are wide spread in this country. Don't they check and recheck their stories.
Since when has Tumut in NSW been anywhere near the Riverina district? A woman has spent three days pinned under a car in NSW's Riverina region. The 45-year-old crashed her car on Christmas Day, sending it plunging down an embankment off Wondalga Road, in Tumut. |

Maybe it was a really, really long embankment.

Investigative journalism takes time and effort, it's much easier to copy information from Facebook and Twitter. I know that on a certain sports forum, the posters made up a rumour that a player was healed from injury and he was ready to play against the Japanese team. A half a dozen Aussie sports journo's ran with it and it ended up hitting papers in Europe and the UK until eventually someone asked the player and he said he was wondering what all that was about. Long story short, one of the journo's tracked the source of the rumour back to the forum. How many celebrities have been announced "dead", evidence collected via Twitter. |

Title: Re: Dopey journalists. Post by ########## on Dec 29th, 2011 at 11:49am Maybe you both should demand better journalism. There is a link on crikey asking for the ABC to do better; wait, Ill be back , with it. ...in the meantime some light reading http://www.abc.net.au/unleashed/3750156.html?WT.svl=theDrum 29 December 2011 The Bible deserves a place in the national curriculum Kevin Donnelly There's no doubt that religious sceptics want to take Christ out of Christmas. Primary schools ban nativity scenes and Christmas carols, and secular cards are now de rigueur instead of those with religious themes and icons. Read the daily newspapers, listen to the radio or watch TV and one could be excused for thinking that the sole purpose of one of Christianity's holiest events, the birth of Christ, is to eat, drink and spend as much as possible on gifts and presents for family and friends. Additional evidence that religious sceptics are seeking to undermine Christianity and the debt we owe to the nation's Judeo/Christian heritage is found in the fact that Christianity rarely rates a mention in the proposed national history curriculum and, when it is, it is simply described as one of the world's religions along side Hinduism, Buddhism and Islam. The situation in Australia is unlike England where prime minister David Cameron and the education secretary Michael Gove argue that England is fundamentally a Christian nation and that every student, regardless of the type of school attended, must be familiar with the Bible. Just before Christmas, Michael Gove announced a plan to send every school in England a copy of the King James Bible on the basis that the Bible is of, "major cultural and historical significance" and "one of the keystones of our shared culture". Prime minister Cameron argues in a similar vein when he states, First, the King James Bible has bequeathed a body of language that permeates every aspect of our culture and heritage. Second, just as our language and culture is steeped in the Bible, so too is our politics. Third, we are a Christian country. |

Well, I've stated many times that I'm married to a man. That's indicative of my sexuality, yes? Wasn't it you that said you were bi a couple of weeks ago? One of my uni friends is a male to female post op trans lesbian. Her sexuality is very much a part of who she is - so much so that she's doing her thesis on it. Still, I wouldn't say she flaunts it. People make their sexuality clear all the time - Buzz is no different. Most of the men on here have mentioned their wives or posted pictures of women that they find sexually appealing - also indicative of sexual orientation. It's no big deal, right? Be honest - Buzz gets his thrown in his face because he's gay. It's discrimination, pure and simple. I doubt he cares, but it irritates the hell out of me. |

Should people hide their sexuality? There's no need to, particularly on a forum like this where queer topics are discussed and debated at such lengths by the resident homophobes.

Speaking of people hiding their sexuality, Alan Jones may now be the champion of the gay community. I wonder if it has anything to do with an email he got from a certain Ozpolitic member?
Wonders will never cease. ............................................................... Sexuality is not a choice: Alan Jones THROUGHOUT his varied and often controversial career, the conservative broadcaster Alan Jones has shied away from one topic -- his private life and with whom he chooses to share it. But the man who has dogged many politicians and public figures over the decades has now chosen a gay publication to offer some veiled views on the issues that affect young people who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender. http://www.theaustralian.com.au/media/sexuality-is-not-a-choice-jones/story-e6frg996-1226241201111 |
