In an interview with Al-Ahram newspaper, today, Father Maqar Fawzi, Pastor of the "Two Saints" church in Alexandria, pointed out that Copts in Alexandria voted for candidates of the of Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), particularly in the runoff phase, and said: "We find the Muslim Brotherhood the most understanding and tolerant. We disagree with them, on certain issues, but we agree on a lot, especially on ways to resolve various issues. So, we gave them our votes in the belief that they are capable of solving problems."

Fawzi explained that the ascendance of Islamists was normal, since Muslims represent the majority of the country’s population, adding that this is the generally quite reassuring, pointing out that Christians have been living under Islamic rule for thousands of years now, so there’s nothing new about them living or co-existing with Muslims.

Fawzi expected moderate Islamists to deal with Islamic extremists if those did not change and modify their radical ideas, stressing that Muslims can defend Coptic issues in the People's Assembly more powerfully than Copts defending the same issues.

;D

This reminds me of the time Abu posted an article about Afghans turning to the Taliban in droves. They gave three examples of people who had switched sides to the Taliban. Unfortunately in the same article was also several examples of the Taliban assaulting and/or killing people who refused to switch sides.

I have a friend who is an Egyptian Copt living in Egypt. She was with the media at one stage.  I'll see if I can get the inside story. It wouldn't surprise me if the Copts are taking sides with the Muslim Brotherhood. The Egyptian Military have been behaving like total pigs in the last year.
