Title: Whitney Houston Dies
Post by corporate_whitey on Feb 12th, 2012 at 11:23am
Whitney Houston 1963 - 2012 RIP

Quote:
Whitney Houston, superstar of records, films, dies

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Whitney Houston, who reigned as pop music's queen until her majestic voice and regal image were ravaged by drug use, has died. She was 48.

Publicist Kristen Foster said Saturday that the singer had died, but the cause and the location of her death were unclear.
At her peak in the 1980s and '90s, Houston the golden girl of the music industry and one of the world's best-selling artists.
Among her hits were "How Will I Know," "Saving All My Love for You" and "I Will Always Love You." She won multiple Grammys including album and record of the year.
Her success carried her beyond music to movies like "The Bodyguard."
But by the end of her career, drug use took its toll as her record sales plummeted and her voice became raspy and hoarse.

Very sad news indeed.....A woman who has lead an extraordinary life!!!

Be open to your dreams, people. Embrace that distant shore. Because our mortal journey is over all too soon.

Poor thing - she was too young to die.

Her voice was great when she was much younger.

Commit yourself to your dream and pursue it - I have achieved my dream - for me that was the raising of myself above all Government, ideologies and constitutions and embracing myself as the only supreme authority over my conscience.  Whitney Houston was a great voice and I also enjoyed her movie the Body guard, she was also my contemporary.  Its not the length of time here that counts, its the integrity of soul.   8-)

It matters not how long she lived only that she lived it well. 100 years of boring is pain beyond imagination, 48 years of burning bright my be just what she was happy with.

I loved her music and always thought of her as a spunk, but sadly, I don't agree with the idea of her 'living life to the fullest' or 'shining bright' for a flicker of a moment ...when all that self destruction just ruins such a moment. She will be remembered as an awarded Singer and a Drug Addict.
Real 'Great' Singers keep on being great.

The Religious Industry has a Gun problem.

Farewell Whitney - I wonder what scared you?

Non thinkers have a Government problem, always want to be safe, never take risks, control every bodies behavior and make the world just "perfect" in their own image.  The trouble is their image is not perfect except in their own mind and that is where it should stay and they should not seek to Govern other peoples lives or tell them how to live it.  None of the do gooders will ever live in a thousand lifetimes what Ms Houston lived in 48 - they know it, it challenges their delusions of grandeur, holiness and perfection, it eats them up their sterile world is a joke. ::)

Whats the point of living such a life if you can't remember it or recognise the person on the album cover that people say is you?

3 steps forward.
5 steps back.

Dear Baron

I've heard, created and played more music in half my life than you ever will have the chance to listen to on your little ipod.

I've listened to Whitney many times and even saw her perform live (which was the worst concert I've ever seen in my life), and in my opinion she was absolute crap.

I prefer real music.

Having said that, she was probably a lovely person and I certainly don't wish the poor woman dead.

However, her "music" will not be missed by me.

""Disappointed" and "disgraceful" were perhaps some of the gentler terms used by concert-goers in Brisbane to describe a recent show by the legendary and often highly-acclaimed singer, Whitney Houston.

"It's the worst concert I've ever been to in my life," said one audience member while standing in the parking lot of the Australian arena during Houston's set.

In fact, some viewers were so displeased by what they saw and did not even stay for the entire show. Many left midway through the concert and expressed their severe dissatisfaction with the pop diva, ... "

She should never have gotten married. Maybe she should have avoided this train-wreck altogether, to get a career change and become a nuclear scientist.

She partied hard. She doesn't owe her "fans" sh!t. She crammed a lot into a decent chunk of those 48 years. I might have the personal opinion that she should be damned for pioneering "vocal gymnastics" but for that she doesn't deserve death.

Better off partying hard for your adult life (however short it is) than doing the accepted thing and forcing out and nuturing 2.3 sprogs and thinking your job has been done.

I wouldn't call 'drug-abuse' as 'partying'.
Being a Singer and Entertainer is true 'partying'.
Being drug-buggered is something one feels like after a major operation.
But hey, where talking about a USA Health System here - that compromises its integrity and professionalism in the face of Politics.

...as for the shortage of Doctors in Australia? I'm sure all those 'boob job' and 'facelift' Doctors have better things to do - right :-??

Do you know what? I have no idea who is serious and who's joking.

At least we were creative in the way we celebrated her life and death. We didn't just churn out the usual phoney nonsense of talking about how tragic it was and how sorry we are that she died. This is how we show that we truly respect her -- by being sincere. Keep it up guys!!!!

It's always sad when someone dies. She had a wonderful voice, but no one forced her to take the drugs. Her problems were self-inflicted, but it's sad, and none of the current singers hold a candle to her amazing and one of a kind voice.

I'm saddened to hear of her passing.
She had quite a voice before the drugs and alcohol took over, and I enjoyed her music.
I heard today she apparently drowned in a hotel bath with no illicit drugs involved, after falling asleep.
I wonder where BB was though.

She fell asleep in a bath and no illicit drugs were involved.  Well, she must have been bloody wasted on something to not wake up.

Sadly, her daughter more than likely wont even see her mothers age at the rate she is snorting cocaine and drinking.

Considering she was having a bath prior to going out to the Emmy's where she was to perform.
I would have thought she would have done all her partying after the performance, rather than before it only to fall asleep in the bath.

I just listened to four of her songs on YouTube. I have to say, her music doesn't seem to have "climaxes" and I didn't find them emotionally stimulating. It just felt flat. I think the reason why she became so popular was not because her songs could stir up your emotions, but because of her voice.

Her music is the slow, flat, climax-lacking kind and not like the kind I usually find exciting. She seems more like a dance-floor singer, singing the kind of song that you hear when you go to a formal dinner where men come in tuxedos and women come in fancy dresses. It could also be the kind of music you play when you're putting your baby to sleep. You'd probably fall asleep at the sofa yourself if you listened to it due to the lack of emotional stimulation.

DRUGS.

SHOWING the strain of her disastrous Australian tour, Whitney Houston looked anything but an international superstar while eating a late lunch in Sydney yesterday.
Hours before hitting the stage before 12,000 paying fans at the Hope Estate Winery in Pokolbin in the Hunter Valley, Houston, 46, surfaced from her room at the Four Seasons hotel in The Rocks, She sat down with a few members of her entourage at 3.30pm and had a Coca-Cola, a bottle of water and a light meal.

Wearing a white singlet and long black shorts and looking extremely tired, despite not having performed since Wednesday night, Houston at times closed her eyes and rested her head against a wall and waved her arms.
After eating, a puffy Houston happily posed with a couple of fans in the hotel foyer before boarding a tour bus for the two-and-a-half hour drive to Hope Estate.
Two decades ago, Houston was the world's biggest pop star. Her magnificent voice pumped out a string of massive international hits, but her destructive relationship with drug-addicted husband Bobby Brown, himself a lower-level pop star, led her to a life of well-chronicled drug dependency.

In recent years she has split with Brown and kicked drugs, but her first tour to Australia since 1988 has been a disaster.

Houston's Brisbane show last week was slated by fans for forgotten lyrics and wobbly pitch.

After paying up to $699 for ticket packages, fans waited anxiously for her to come on stage at 9pm last night and were worried they wouldn't get their money's worth.

"I paid $250 and got a $350 package for the weekend, but I'm a bit concerned about it because I heard in Brisbane she only did a few songs, walked off throughout the show and her voice wasn't that good," said 20-year-old Jess Morton from North Sydney.
The show was not a sell-out, with noticeable empty spaces around the 168ha estate.

The queen of pop was seen leaving a Hollywood nightclub Thursday night and as you can see from the picture above, we don’t know what is up with Whitney.*
The singer, whose career has gone down the drain due to drug use, marriage issues and financial problems, looked like she was back on drugs yesterday. The picture shows her profusely sweating after she left True Hollywood Nightclub.
DRUGGED.

Even her handlers look concerned and it looked as if she was cursing people out and talking incoherently.
On top of that, her leg was photo’d with scratches blood rolling down it.

She has been recently linked to R&B star Ray J … again.

This all goes to show how tough show business is.
Amy Winehouse & now this.
The job is so demanding that people are seduced by drugs & alcohol - then destroyed.
The list must be a mile long:  Elvis, Morrison, Joplin, Bonham, Hendrix & Jones
just off the top of my head.

All the glitz & glamour is only skin deep.
Is it the insatiable demand of we the public that becomes too much for them?

No Bobby.
Its just Musicians that couldn't make a greater sacrifice that Politics did a long time ago in America's (Western) History.
They'll always fall short.

...Now if they were performing on behalf of that Caribbean/Central America/New Zealand region known as the Occidental. Then I'm sure the 'orthodox' of the situation would allow them to perform without having to compete with Politics.

With that said. Whitney's brain was probably a soggy rotted cabage by the time she died. Rock Zombie. ::)

I just dont get this whitney thing.

Sure it's sad for her friends and family but I resent being bombarded with whitney news as though it should mean something to me.

She had a good voice if you like well controlled though bland voices but what did she actually do?

Had some hits 20 years ago. But if you go and listen to them now you'd be hard pressed to say they were actually GOOD songs.

Album sales are NOT a good indicator of quality.

Wont be listened to in 20 years or so.

None of my friends own a whitney houston album. I fact I dont have any friends who are fans of hers.

Not that I ask peoples music tastes before I befriend them but the type of people who like that sort of music are not people I have a lot in common with.

Her music didnt speak to me or for me.

All this talk about "legend " this and "legend" that gets my goat.

It's the mutual masturbation clique of american "music professionals" who hand out the title of "legend" too liberally .  Just because they know them or have worked with them.

Houston was NOT a legend.  Just a footnote.

So, the Heineken was from the minibar!

What I don't understand is why people blame Bobby Brown. Did he force her to take the drugs?

For the record, I was a fan. Not a massive fan, but I did like her. I loved "The Greatest Love of All", "How Will I Know", "Didn't We Almost Have It All", and she did a great job of covering Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You", and Annie Lennox's "Step by Step".

The National Enquirer has a reputation for publishing outrageous stories, but this latest offering has really caused shock waves.
The US tabloid has published an exclusive called 'Whitney's Final Minutes', in which they document what 'really happened' in the hours before the singer's death

But what's so bad about it?

They've used a model lying face down on the bathroom floor to pose as a dead Whitney.

Yes, they actually hired someone (and someone actually agreed!) to do a graphic recreation of a tragic, horrible death.

What's more, the front page advertises 'Exclusive crime scene photos' and there's only a tiny disclaimer admitting to 'photo re-creation.'

Hollywood gossip site, allieiswired.com, has called the tabloid's coverage 'despicable.'

Do you agree? Or not? Have a vote below.

A 'world renowned' gay rights activist has reignited rumours that Whitney Houston was a lesbian.
Peter Tatchell of the UK-based 'Peter Tatchell Foundation' claims Whitney's marriage to Bobby Brown was a smokescreen, and that the singer used drugs to deal with her inner torment.

"It's important to tell the truth about this aspect of her life," he told the Daily Star.

"Whitney was happiest and at her peak in the 1980s when she was with her female partner.

"They were so loved up and joyful together. Perhaps her inability to accept and express her same-sex love contributed to her substance abuse and decline," he told the mag.

And while Peter didn't mention who this 'female partner' was, it's long been rumoured that Whitney had a relationship with her best friend and assistant, Robyn Crawford, who just hours after Whitney's death wrote a tribute to the singer:

"I first met Whitney when I was 16 and I knew right away she was special… I can't believe that I'm never going to hug her or hear her laugh again," it read.

Peter also told the Daily Star that Whitney was 'pressured into the Bobby Brown marriage,' a claim backed up by the rapper's autobiography, released in 2008.

From Beyonce to Gaga: 8 Singers Influenced by Whitney Houston

"Influence" may be too weak a word to describe Whitney Houston's effect on singers who came after her. Building on the gospel foundation she was given by her mother, Cissy Houston, and godmother, Aretha Franklin, Houston defined the dramatically emotive, melismatic (melismas are those quick runs up or down the scale on one syllable) Pop/R&B style that almost everyone on "American Idol" -- black and white, female and male -- uses. That so many seem to struggle with it testifies to Houston's talent and taste in deploying her vocal gifts.

Here is a look at several pop divas Houston directly inspired, musically and otherwise.

Mariah Carey's debut album was released in 1990, five years after Houston's. Carey soon joined Houston as a Pop/R&B megastar. They were more or less direct competitors, but perhaps because each was so successful, it didn't seem to matter. In 1998 the two joined forces for "When You Believe," a song on the soundtrack of "The Prince of Egypt," an animated film from Dreamworks.

On Sunday, the day after the news of Houston's death broke, Carey tweeted: "Heartbroken and in tears over the shocking death of my friend, the incomparable Ms. Whitney Houston. My heartfelt condolences to Whitney's family and to all her millions of fans throughout the world. She will never be forgotten as one of the greatest voices to ever grace the earth."

Carey was to appear on "Good Morning America" on Tuesday to discuss losing weight after giving birth to her twins and her role as spokesperson for Jenny Craig.

Her representative reportedly said, "Mariah is still mourning the death of her friend and collaborator Whitney Houston and thought it was too soon to appear on TV to discuss anything else."

Jennifer Hudson

Jennifer Hudson had the challenge and honor of singing Houston's iconic hit, "I Will Always Love You," in her memory at Sunday's Grammys.

Clearly holding back tears, Hudson, 30, concluded the song with the words, "Whitney, we love, we love you," and left the stage to rousing applause.

The singer-actress told "Nightline" in 2008 she used to fantasize about singing the ballad with Houston.

"When she came out with 'I Will Always Love You,' I would create a duet between her and I … If you would hear her recording of singing it and you hear my voice singing the top harmony part and it's like 'ahhh' to me. That's Jennifer Hudson and Whitney Houston's duet, around the house that is," Hudson said.

Houston's powerful rendition of "I Will Always Love You," which was released in 1992 and originally performed by country music legend Dolly Parton, became the anthem of her career. Hudson said Houston and her music had been the "ultimate" influence on her since childhood.

"Whitney Houston was probably the ultimate artist that influenced me the most," Hudson said in 2008. "I always loved everything she sang. But Whitney, that voice, you know, and that music — I always like the music and the substance and something behind it and her music was just like that."

Mourners visit Whitney funeral home

Stars come out for Whitney Houston's funeral

(Reuters) - A star-studded lineup will sing and speak at pop star Whitney Houston's funeral, from Alicia Keys and Kevin Costner to the soul and gospel music royalty from which she hails, including her cousin Dionne Warwick and Aretha Franklin.
Houston will be laid to rest on Saturday after an invitation-only memorial service at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey, where Houston groomed her voice singing in the church choir with her mother Cissy Houston, a soul and gospel singer who once backed up Franklin.

The singer, who rose to fame with a soaring voice and hits in the mid-1980s such as "Saving All My Love For You," died in a Beverly Hills hotel room almost a week ago on the eve of the music industry's Grammy Awards. She was found underwater in her hotel room's bathtub. A cause of death has yet to be determined.

Along with her signature song, "I Will Always Love You," her other hits included "I Wanna Dance with Somebody," and she starred in movies "The Bodyguard" and "The Preacher's Wife."

Other top names taking part in the service include Houston's mentor and record producer Clive Davis, singer Stevie Wonder and Hollywood actor and producer Tyler Perry, who donated his plane to fly her body from Los Angeles to Newark earlier this week.

Elton John, Beyonce and rapper Jay-Z, Oprah Winfrey and Bill Cosby are also expected to attend, according to reports.

It is not yet known if singer Bobby Brown, who Houston divorced in 2007 after a tumultuous 15-year marriage that began as Houston's music career began to slide, will be there. The couple have a daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, 18, who was in Los Angeles when her mother died.

The death of the beloved pop star who had a long history of addiction to alcohol and cocaine stunned the music world, her family and fans, and some of those close to her have publicly said they thought Houston had been getting healthier.

FRANKLIN DEVASTATED

Franklin, 69, told the "Today" morning news show on Friday that she thought Houston was on the road to a comeback after seeing some of the previews for "The Bodyguard" star's final film "Sparkle" to be released later this year.

"She looked gorgeous and I thought 'Yes, she has conquered her challenges and she is on the way',"
Franklin said, before adding that she did not know what song she would sing at the funeral, but "It's not going to be easy."

Franklin said she imagined Houston's inability to hit some notes in "I Will Always Love You" on her last world tour in 2010 and a poor reception by some critics and audiences would have upset the fragile yet strong-willed singer.

"The audience was very rude but she stood there with the heart of a champion, night after night," Franklin said. "She had to be totally devastated. When you are a singer and you can't sing what it is you want to sing and she had some problems in her highest range, it is very disheartening."

Other singers confirmed to perform or speak are American gospel singers Donnie McClurkin, Kim Burrell, CeCe Winans, musical director Rickey Minor and gospel singer and pastor Marvin Winans, a family spokeswoman said.

Costner, who starred opposite Houston in "The Bodyguard," will speak as part of the official program, the spokesman said.

Houston's close friend, singer and producer Ray J, 31, said in a statement on Friday, "The world lost an icon but I lost my close friend ... Your smile will live in my heart forever."

Police plan to lock down the streets near Saturday's private funeral and have said there will be no procession from the funeral home she is resting in to the church. They have urged the thousands of fans expected to crowd the area to stay home and watch the funeral which will be broadcast live.

On Friday, flowers, candles, cards and balloons hung outside the funeral home, church and her old elementary school that was renamed after was closed. Small shrines dedicated to the singer dotting the school.

Such has been the outpouring of emotion that in Los Angeles, two radio personalities of KFI AM 640 station's "The John and Ken Show" -- have been suspended after making disparaging comments and jokes about Houston and her drug problems. 8-) 8-) 8-)

Driver lifts lid on soul star Whitney Houston's drug-fuelled depravity
Feb 18 2012

WHITNEY Houston’s chauffeur has revealed the tragic depths to which the superstar sank while hooked on crack cocaine.

Limo driver Al Bowman drove the singer for two decades.

And he witnessed first hand her spiral into a drug-fuelled meltdown.

He watched helplessly as Whitney and husband Bobby Brown became wasted in the back of his car almost daily, set fire to his limo while “free-basing” cocaine and even indulged in a threesome with an A-list soul singer after a wild night out.

Whitney even demanded that Al drive to rundown ghettos in LA so she could buy more drugs.

But most shockingly, Whitney’s drug abuse became so severe that she openly smoked crack in front of her young daughter Bobbi Kristina.

Al said: “I couldn’t believe my eyes. Here was Whitney Houston in my limo, smoking crack with her six or seven-year-old daughter sat next to her. It was heart-breaking.

“I’ve driven some big stars over the years – Michael and Janet Jackson, Ozzy Osbourne, Motley Crew – but Whitney was by far the worst behaved.

“It was tragic to see. Here was this glamorous star, adored around the world, but in the back of my car she was a rambling drug addict, a train wreck.”

At her peak in the 80s and early 90s, Whitney was the golden girl of the music industry.

But by the mid-90s her descent into a drug-addled hell saw the hits dry up – and her millions squandered on drugs.

It’s believed Whitney – who died last weekend from a suspected prescription drug overdose – blew a £63million fortune on her addiction.

Al, 53, first drove Whitney with her mentor Clive Davis at the height of her fame in the mid 80s.

He said: “She was just a sweet girl back then, happy to be out of New Jersey.

“I would pick her and Clive Davis up for red carpet events and ferry them back and forth. Whitney was so nice.”

But as the years rolled by and Al drove Whitney more and more, he says the transformation was astonishing.

He said: “Things took a turn for the worse when she met Bobby Brown in the early 90s.

“They started smoking crack in the limo. One time it got a little crazy back there, they were smoking and all of a sudden the limo is on fire.

“I pulled over and got the fire extinguisher and put the fire out.

“It turns out they were freebasing crack, it was like a crack lab in the back of the limo.

“There were little bags, pipes and spoons all over the place. They were using a little butane torch and lit up a bunch of cocktail napkins and the whole place went up. Whitney and Bobby had no clue what was going on, they were wasted.”

Freebasing is a street term for burning purified cocaine and inhaling the fumes.

In an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2009, Whitney finally admitted for the first time that she was addicted to crack in the 1990s after marrying Brown.

Al says her drug habit was so bad that Whitney would ask him to drive her into LA’s ghetto areas to get her next fix.

“She’d ask me to take her to Compton, a rough area of LA, to get crack. It was like a bad rap video,” he said.

Whitney famously denied using crack when she was interviewed on TV in 2002, saying: “I make too much money to smoke crack. Crack is whack.”

But her voice was ruined by the effects of smoking crack pipes.

Al thought he’d seen it all after two decades driving Hollywood’s A-list.

But in 1999 he was horrified when he picked Whitney and Bobby up from their home in the Hollywood Hills.

“Their daughter Bobbi got into the limo with them and she had a bunch of dolls and was playing around. Then they would smoke crack right in front of her.

“Whitney would just say, ‘baby, mommy and daddy are doing adult things’. It wasn’t anything major to her.”

In another bizarre incident Al remembers a wild night in which Whitney and husband Bobby left a Hollywood party with another A-list soul diva – and ended up in a steamy threesome in the back.

Al said: “Her and Bobby were with another very famous singer after a party in Hollywood. I was taking them back to Whitney’s house in the hills.

“They were pretty wasted. I could see them through the divider glass and they started fooling around.

“It was only a 15-minute journey but they got straight to it.

“The woman was another big star at the time, so I was pretty shocked.”

Eventually, in 2003, Al decided to stop working for Whitney after her antics and crazy demands became too excessive.

“She just became too demanding,” he said. “Driving Whitney was never A to B, there was always a diversion, there was always a problem.

“She had turned into a monster, real arrogant. I told her to find another driver. I had plenty of work without her.”

He added: “It was tragic to watch a talent like Whitney Houston let herself get out of hand like she did over the years.

“She was bouncing off the walls and aged about 15-20 years really quickly.”

Quote:
Whitney Houston generation: 'Soundtrack' of our lives

It was 1985. Belting out the words to Whitney Houston's "The Greatest Love of All," a 14-year-old girl in Dallas, Texas, stood in front of her bathroom mirror, believing the song's message of strength and self-worth.

"This was daily," says Deon Q. Sanders, 40, who now lives in Grand Prairie, Texas, and continues to sing Houston's music at weddings and other events. She laughs when she remembers her early obsession. "I can remember my mom screaming, 'Would you please hush!'"
There was something about Houston's music that made children and teenagers want to learn the words and dance along. You didn't have to know anything about the singer's personal life to be inspired by the music. In the days after Houston was found dead in a Beverly Hills hotel, childhood fans reminisced on CNN iReport about the singer who provided the soundtrack to their young lives.

Her funeral is Saturday in Newark, New Jersey.

Fans remember Whitney Houston at the Newark, New Jersey, church where she grew up

Houston would later struggle with drug addiction, health problems and a rocky marriage to Bobby Brown. But iReporters said they would remember her at her prime.

Whitney Houston's self-titled debut album generated three No. 1 singles -- "Saving All My Love for You," "How Will I Know" and "Greatest Love of All." Her second, "Whitney," came out two years later in 1987 with chart-topping singles "I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)," "Didn't We Almost Have It All," "So Emotional" and "Where Do Broken Hearts Go."

The "Whitney Houston" cassette was often playing when Cory Surovek's mom picked him up from school in her gold Mercedes Benz.

Surovek, now 29 and an architect in Los Angeles, says "How Will I know" would come on, and he and his mother would lip sync and dance in their seats.

"Whitney's voice wailed over our conversations of my day in class and often provided the soundtrack of our impromptu dance parties at any given stoplight," Surovek wrote in his iReport. Houston's music was "essential to the earliest memories that I have of me being 'me,' with my mom, in that Benz, dancing, laughing, singing, loving."

Dana Brenklin, then 9 years old and an aspiring singer, knew she had found her vocal role model when she first heard Houston singing "You Give Good Love" on the radio.

"She was just singing and singing and then she got to the bridge and she just soared, and I was like, 'Oh my god, who is this person?'" says Brenklin, 36, who has won several singing contests with Houston numbers. "When you saw her on TV, she looked kind, she looked nice, she looked pretty and she seemed happy and bubbly. You see her, and you hear this and you just want to take the ride with her."

Brenklin was in the studio audience a couple of years later when Houston taped the video for "Celebrate New Life" by BeBe & CeCe Winans. Brenklin's memories of seeing Houston are hazy, but she still remembers "how nice she was and how pretty she was" in person.

AMY WINEHOUSE GREETS WHITNEY HOUSTON IN HEAVEN
Monday, February 13th, 2012

HEAVEN – Psychics are saying that Amy Winehouse was the first soul singer to greet Whitney  Houston, even before Michael Jackson.
Top psychics in Los Angeles are saying that Whitney Houston’s spirit is already “lighting up” heaven.  ”It’s like the universal source has called the greatest voice of all time back to heaven.  It’s pure magic up there.”

The psychics also agree that Amy Winehouse was the first singer to greet Houston when she arrived at the pearly gates.

“Amy was right there.  She gave Whitney a big angel hug and walked with her as she met some of her ancestors, relatives and… Michael Jackson.”

Both singers had trouble on earth with alcohol and drugs, but they are a peace now.  ”Fame was too much for their gentle souls,” said Madam Marie of Sherman Oaks.  ”Their voices were a gift to our world, but caused great damage to their spirits on earth.  Now, they are in a better place.”

One psychic said that Amy Winehouse and Whitney Houston are planning a “concert” together in Whitney’s first few months.  ”Amy’s been doing very well in heaven and feels free and happy.”

One psychic said that Whitney Houston is loved even more in heaven than she was on earth.  ”It’s hard to imagine her being even more popular in the afterlife, but a voice like hers comes from the universal source and comes along only once in the life of any universe.  She is THE queen of the afterlife.”

While Americans and fans around the world mourn the terrible loss of Whitney, the angels are rejoicing.  ”Our songbird is home,”  is what St. Peter reportedly said when greeting Whitney, according to a psychic on Venice Beach.

Aretha Franklin Pays Tribute to Whitney Houston at Radio City

On the night before Whitney Houston‘s funeral–where she will perform–the amazing and svelte Aretha Franklin paid tribute to her god-daughter in concert at Radio City Music Hall. Playing to a sold out house that included Clive Davis, LA Reid, former Warnaco CEO Linda Wachner and Mica Ertegun, widow of Atlantic founder Ahmet Ertegun–Franklin put on a dazzling, robust nearly two hour show that featured two of Houston’s hits: “I Will Always Love You” and “The Greatest Love of All.” She showed many pictures on screens above the stage of both Whitney and her mother Cissy Houston, who was for many years Franklin’s chief backup singer. She even bridged the connection between herself and Whitney by performing an old hit of her own–”Give Him Something He Can Feel” from the movie, “Sparkle.” Just before her death, Houston had filmed a remake of “Sparkle.”

But it was otherwise a stellar night for Franklin, who turns 70 next month singing and looking better than ever. She rearranged some of her hits, like “Natural Woman,” “Daydreamin’,” and “The House That Jack Built.” Her latest take on one of her masterpieces–”Ain’t No Way”–written by her own late sister, Carolyn–was breathtaking. Franklin has seemed completely renewed in performance in the last year. Her show at Jones Beach last summer was a pinnacle. But this one in every way equaled it. At the piano, she directed her orchestra and singers through her own gospel version of “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” The way she does that song surprises even Paul Simon–it’s a work of art on a huge canvas. And she even threw in a long lost ballad, “Sweet Bitter Love,” that sounded as fresh as ever.

Of course, an Aretha Franklin show is best marked by her own piano playing and going to “church.” There was plenty of gospel in this show, just the right amount for a night of “healing” before Saturday’s sad event in New Jersey for Houston. “Spirit in the Dark” wrapped an evening that was  memorable and moving. And Franklin even told a very funny story joke that worked, and caught the audience by surprise. So bravo–only Aretha, the Queen of Soul, who’s lived through plenty of triumphs and tragedies, would know how to pull off a big show on the eve of a bad day. And she’s back at Radio City on Saturday night, believe it or not. If you can find a ticket, get one.

There is no debating the issue, you used a negative image of the star deliberately to create a negative impression of her which I have expressly banned.  Now obey my ruling and desist from your scurrilous attempt to smear Ms Houstons name and mock her death you pathetic lowlife hypocrite.  It is my duty to discipline you for your unacceptable conduct on this respectful posthumous tribute thread and demand you desist from posting here.

You are BANNED.  Give it up, you are not even remotely interested in Ms. Houston except from a manic, obsessive evil desire to character assassinate tear down a person who shone brightly and touched so many lives.  I am the law of light against the darkness - and you are done here you miserable grubby troll.

Whitney Houston: Nelson Mandela pays tribute to star

Nelson Mandela has paid tribute to Whitney Houston, the American singer and actress who died in her Los Angeles hotel room at the weekend.

The former South African president, speaking through his eponymous foundation, extended his "deepest condolences" to the family and friends of Miss Houston, 48.
The Bodyguard star was a staunch supporter of the fight against apartheid and refused to work with any agencies who did business with pre-democratic South Africa during her modelling days.
She was one of the headline acts at the 1988 London concert to celebrate Mr Mandela's 70th birthday while he was still in prison, and in October 1994, met the iconic statesman once he had become president at a dinner hosted by Bill Clinton at the White House.
Before singing for guests in the Rose Garden, she told them: "This performance is very special to me because in 1988 I sang in honour of Nelson Mandela the inmate and tonight I sing for elected president, Nelson Mandela."
The following month, she travelled to South Africa where she performed in Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg in the Concert for a New South Africa.

Proceeds from the concert were donated to South African children's charities.
On meeting Houston again in Johannesburg, Mr Mandela famously said he was there "merely to polish her shoes ... we love her so much."
Footage of the meeting shows the singer and actress put her head on Mr Mandela's shoulder and start to cry. He then produced a handkerchief and used it to tenderly wipe away her tears.

The Grammy-award winning star, who has battled with drug addictions, was found dead in the bath of her room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Saturday shortly before she had been due to attend a party there ahead of the Grammy awards ceremony. According to reports, prescription drugs were found nearby.
Sello Hatang, a spokesman for the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory, said in a statement: "Ms Houston sang for Mr Nelson Mandela at a White House dinner in his honour in October 1994. She dedicated to him her rendition of the song Greatest Love of all. May she rest in peace."
Other South African musicians took to Twitter to express their sadness at her death.
Zonke Dikana, who is enjoying the success of her 2011 release Ina Ethe, wrote: "Growing up, I wanted to sing just like Whitney Houston till I found my own voice. She's the reason I'm a singer today ... I'm not sure what musical direction I would have taken had I not obsessed over her voice as a kid."
Man Made Moon singer Lindiwe Suttle, who is due to perform at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival, said: "Devastated with the news that the 1st woman 2 touch my soul w/ her voice is gone. Every lil Blk girl wanted 2 b her. I did."
Simphiwe Dana, a jazz singer hailed by some as "the new Miriam Makeba", wrote: "God has called a beloved to her bosom. RIP WhitneyHouston. You never belonged here but amongst the stars."

Now, now Corpulant_Whiney, don't be like that.
You don't mean it.
Surely if you can put up a nice photo of Ms Mariah Carey, then you should be able to provide a nice modern one of Ms Houston instead of those ancient ones.

I insist you obey and respect the decision I have made to BAN you from this thread Chicken_Lips you have a problem with authority and a rebellious streak as well as an ugly hypocritical nasty nature. 8-)

Yes, but I'm still patiently waiting for a nice modern photo of Ms Houston from you.
All you have Corpulant_Whiney is ancient ones of her.

Thank you Skippy, that's mighty thoughtful of you.
Corpulant_Whiney was feeling totally embarrassed about his inability to provide an up to date photo of Ms Houston, and you provided one out of the goodness of your heart :).
There aren't too many as kind hearted as you on OzPolitics, and on behalf of Corpulant_Whiney and myself we would like to thank you.

I see there is to be an auction on some of Ms Houston's clothing to happen soon.
Particularly a black velvet dress she wore in the Bodyguard along with a pearl necklace.

Is THIS more up to date ?

National Enquirer: Whitney Houston Photo From “Private Viewing”
February 22

This week’s National Enquirer shows Whitney Houston in an open casket, at the Whigham Funeral Home in Newark, NJ in what appears to be a real photo taken inside the “private,” closed family viewing.

Which means a funeral home staffer or security staffer, a family member, or a close friend, took and sold the photo(s) to the tabloid.
