Title: Syria target journalists.
Post by Grey on Feb 23rd, 2012 at 6:54pm
Respected foreign coresponedent Marie Colvin of the UK Sunday Times has been killed among other journalists, (killed and wounded) as the Syrian army deliberately tries to close down news coming out of Hom.

Marie Colvin has often appeared on Australian TV.

Is there any proof that the government did it?

It said the building got shelled but anyone could have done it.
At the end of the day his death is just going to be used as an excuse to kill thousands if not millions of innocent people when the west invades and bombs the crap out of the place, which is despicable.
I’m not saying I support the killing, not that we even know if its the government actually doing it.
But the fact is the west will kill a lot more than they ever could.
This stuff happens all the time and people don’t care, its only when the news tell people to get angry that they do. For example Israel has been bombing the Palestinians for how long now?-

If the protestors have acquired artillery already it doesn't appear as if they need help though why they'd target journalists they'd just supplied with a safe house is anybodies guess.

honestly if you've read the report provided and express doubt then you aren't being objective.

Not protesters, I wouldn’t be surprised if the west has a hand in it all.. Probably by hiring militia groups too cause unrest.
I doubt it would have been targeted, more like a randomly fired shell.
I’m being objective, I just don’t trust the media on issues like this because we have been lied to 99% of the time about similar issues such as Libya, Iraq etc..
And seeming as their is no evidence only opinion I take it as neither fact nor fiction.

Im comparing the media response to Syria as the same.
Seeming as I do not know the whole truth like you about Syria I cannot comment on the actual situtation other than that I doubt the west has changed its tune this time.

Oh I have no doubt that the west Has had a hand in causing the unrest. I know the West had a hand in the events leading to Tiananmin square in China, in the unrest in Tibet, in the Ukrainian orange revolution, in Georgia's rose revolution and probably throughout the Arab world. I'm not naive and I don't believe there's been a 'spontaneous revolution' in the history of the human race.

But you know if the CIA (etc etc) can play a game it's only by making a move and considering the oppositions response to that move. Bashar al-Assad came in with promises of reform. If he'd kept to that agenda he wouldn't be in his present difficulty. If he'd held elections at the first sign of these protests he wouldn't have a problem, He'd probably have won and even if he'd lost it would only be for three or four years. It was a reasonably popular government and Ba'athists were a big improvement on constant military coups.

That his response to demo's has been ruthless and hardline is entirely his responsibility. No sympathy for that. When a government goes to war against its own people it's completely lost the plot.

Hamas was formed in response to the first Intifada which started as a result of Israeli aggression.

C’mon people, the Israeli situation is pretty clean cut when you look at it.
Why would you call Hamas the bad people when they are clearly just defending their people/culture/land?
It’s like a robber mugging someone on the street and then suing the person they mugged because they hit them over the head to stop them.

Honestly, ask yourself if you were in the Palestinian position; would you want to attack the Israelis too?

This is just like what is happening with Iran, we poke them with a stick over and over for decades until they finally stand up for themselves and then we label them dangerous terrorists or whatever, it’s so much of a joke I seriously thought most people would be able to see it.. But no, everyone believes whatever the media and co. tell you.

And if that is 'antisemetic' so be it. I know I dont hate the Jewish people, I just hate their regime.

Than if you know that much you need to be cautious with anything the media is telling you, because without the media the west couldn’t get away with all that crap in today’s modern age.
You raise a very good point about “spontaneous revolution”. While the human race can be smart on an individual level, it takes a hell of a lot to get an idea to 1. Spread across the society and 2. Go from idea into action. It doesn’t happen overnight and I look at it a lot like the mutation of a genome; society mutates and evolves just like any other organism which we know takes a long time.

I can promise you that US involvement has nothing to do with Bashar al-Assad or any president before him for that matter. The US would be involved even if they were the most squeaky clean nation on earth.. In fact as was the case with Libya they would be then more inclined to get involved. Because the whole point of the monetary system they enforce is to destroy countries and make sure they can’t become a prosperous society so that the west can remain in power and use them and their resources as economic slaves.
Much like Iran, the US would have had its hands in Syria since the 50’s and possibly even earlier.

http://abundanthope.net/pages/True_US_History_108/SYRIA-CIA-MI6-Intel-Ops-and-Sabotage_printer.shtml

The US don’t want them to hold fair elections, they want to overthrow Assad and then install a western dictator. Now this has happened countless times in the last century, and every time the dictator has been 100x worse than the original guy they threw out.
Like I said, there is no evidence that the Syrian government is going to war against its own people and due to the amount of times we have been lied to about the exact same thing I choose to play it safe and not believe it.
Fool me once shame on you, Fool me twice shame on me.

That's ok.
There's plenty in the middle east who still hate the Israeli 'regime'.
Being the sole democracy in the middle east has never been popular with those who still dream of an Islamic Caliphate.
And after the Arab league has been flogged in four major wars they started with Israel trying to destroy that country, would also have them hating the Israeli 'regime'.
And you are right, the situation is clear cut and history speaks out loud and clear.
There is no Palestinian land lost.
As there never has been a country called Palestine.
Only a region just like Judea, Samaria and the Sahara.
Jordan lost land and so did Egypt when they lost their 3rd war to destroy Israel in 1967.
And Jordan only controlled the West Bank from 1948-1967, the British before that, the Ottomans before that and the Romans, Greeks, Phoenicians etc.
Gaza was Egyptian controlled from 1959 - 1967.
See, the Palestinians have only been clamouring for their 'nation' since the land became Jewish controlled.
The Ottomans had 600 years to form a Palestine and didn't.
And it became Jewish controlled when the Israeli's got sick of being attacked as these territories were used as starting points for Arab League armies.
Why are Hamas bad people.
Well, they like blowing up yellow school buses, blowing up seaside cafes and other sundry acts of terrorism.
They also like using children as human shields, or using mentally handicapped children as suicide bombers.
They are also sworn to the destruction of Israel.
And when they are not killing Jewish woman and children, they will settle for anyone who follows Fatah.
They are criminals and nothing more.

Ezekiel 35:1
Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
2  Son of man, set thy face against mount Seir, and prophesy against it,
3  And say unto it, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O mount Seir, I am against thee, and I will stretch out mine hand against thee, and I will make thee most desolate.
4  I will lay thy cities waste, and thou shalt be desolate, and thou shalt know that I am the LORD.
5  Because thou hast had a perpetual hatred, and hast shed the blood of the children of Israel by the force of the sword in the time of their calamity, in the time that their iniquity had an end:
6  Therefore, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will prepare thee unto blood, and blood shall pursue thee: sith thou hast not hated blood, even blood shall pursue thee.
7  Thus will I make mount Seir most desolate, and cut off from it him that passeth out and him that returneth.
8  And I will fill his mountains with his slain men: in thy hills, and in thy valleys, and in all thy rivers, shall they fall that are slain with the sword.
9  I will make thee perpetual desolations, and thy cities shall not return: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
10  Because thou hast said, These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will possess it; whereas the LORD was there:
11  Therefore, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will even do according to thine anger, and according to thine envy which thou hast used out of thy hatred against them; and I will make myself known among them, when I have judged thee.
12  And thou shalt know that I am the LORD, and that I have heard all thy blasphemies which thou hast spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying, They are laid desolate, they are given us to consume.
13  Thus with your mouth ye have boasted against me, and have multiplied your words against me: I have heard them.
14  Thus saith the Lord GOD; When the whole earth rejoiceth, I will make thee desolate.
15  As thou didst rejoice at the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so will I do unto thee: thou shalt be desolate, O mount Seir, and all Idumea, even all of it: and they shall know that I am the LORD.

Ezekiel 39:21
And I will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall see my judgment that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon them.
22  So the house of Israel shall know that I am the LORD their God from that day and forward.
23  And the heathen shall know that the house of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity: because they trespassed against me, therefore hid I my face from them, and gave them into the hand of their enemies: so fell they all by the sword.
24  According to their uncleanness and according to their transgressions have I done unto them, and hid my face from them.
25  Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Now will I bring again the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of Israel, and will be jealous for my holy name;
26  After that they have borne their shame, and all their trespasses whereby they have trespassed against me, when they dwelt safely in their land, and none made them afraid.
27  When I have brought them again from the people, and gathered them out of their enemies' lands, and am sanctified in them in the sight of many nations;
28  Then shall they know that I am the LORD their God, which caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen: but I have gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of them any more there.
29  Neither will I hide my face any more from them: for I have poured out my spirit upon the house of Israel, saith the Lord GOD.

Isaiah 17:12
Woe to the multitude of many people, which make a noise like the noise of the seas; and to the rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters!
13  The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind.
14  And behold at eveningtide trouble; and before the morning he is not. This is the portion of them that spoil us, and the lot of them that rob us.

21  As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the LORD; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed's seed, saith the LORD, from henceforth and for ever.

The same scenario like in Libya the most probably written in Hollywood.

So you're comparing Syria to Libya and Iraq?

For NATO or the US it's damned if they do or damned if they don't help the uprising.
If they help they'll be lambasted by the left for being imperialist or colonial dictators, if they stand idle then they get accused of allowing the perpetuation of human rights breaches.

This is why they say  "these sources cannot be verified" after showing the footage. They can't be verified because it's scandalous propaganda.
................................................................

Wag the dog: How to cook-up Syrian drama

Some mainstream news channels have been recently caught carrying dubious footage from Syria. It fuels the debate over media's role in legitimizing possible military intervention in the country.

‘Danny’ is a Syrian opposition activist who reports from Homs for CNN, BBC, Al Jazeera and Al Arabiya. He is attached to the opposition movement and regularly calls for military invasion of Syria. He's identified as Danny Abdul Dayem, a 22-year-old British citizen of Syrian origin.

In a video leaked online, Danny appears to be falsifying a video broadcast for CNN. Prior to going on air, he requests colleagues to fire weapons to dramatize his Live report with Anderson Cooper. Though he denied any wrongdoings in an interview to CNN after the video went viral, his reliability as a verified news source was called into question.

Danny is far from being a lone soldier in an increasingly dirty information war. Investigative journalist Rafik Lotf has spent months looking at the background to footage that has helped shaped global opinion on the conflict. He told RT that Al Jazeera is involved in video fabrication to discredit the Syrian regime and cites a video described by Al Jazeera as proof Syrian Govt forces had bombed an oil pipeline.

“I know this video is on the Al Jazeera server. It is clear it is not an explosion but they ignore that and keep on reporting on the way they need to see it,” he said.

It is even thought that the clip may have been staged by rebels who blew up the pipeline themselves, as alleged on Infowars.com.
Dark turns in Syria’s blame game

All Journalists admit that verifying footage on the ground in Syria is difficult, nigh on impossible.

Most recently shocking footage emerged of some 47 bodies, including women and children found with their throats slit, bearing stab wounds and signs of rape. The opposition called for a UNSC emergency meeting on 'the massacre’.

Assad’s government, in turn, announced that ‘terrorist gangs’ killed those in the video and claimed Homs’ residents recognized relatives among the dead, who had been previously kidnapped by the Syrian rebels.

As the mutual blame game spirals downwards and civilian suffering continues, the recent resignations of key Al Jazeera journalists may serve as a clear indicator – that some mainstream Syria conflict coverage is far from objective.
