I'm new here, and although I recognize EFA as the local offshoot of EFF, a group I've long followed, you don't have much background info. Is there a specific issue you're addressing here, or are you wanting to highlight a general issue? |

Yeah, I'm scared. In a few years time this country is going to feel like China. How long is it going to be before we get our own Great National Internet Firewall? Some covert Australian Censorship Party (ACP) is forming somewhere and conspiring to form a one-party dictatorship. The Federal Government is going to start asking media organisations to self-censor "dangerous" ideas out of their communications in the name of national security.
Armoured tanks from the People's Enslavement Army (PEA) are going to start rolling into Federation Square and trample pro-democracy protesters. The dragon in the Southern Hemisphere will awaken. :D |

Are you Aware that THE GOVERNMENT now runs the censorship of the Media via a retired Judge of their choosing. Check their new rules which they have passed into Law.
With the Internet any site that has over 300 hits or posts a day will be scrutinised for content. BIG BROTHER is alive and well in the form of this iniquitous LABOR Government that smells like the local garbage dump. Noticed in a polls today that 27% of the people are still willing to vote for them. Are they insane???? (Hope one of their stoogey boys is reading this right now!) >:( |

So none of that would apply to this site, because it's not a domain owned by an Australian ISP.

Not really the point though, is it? It matters where it is hosted, not where the domain is registered at. And ultimately, all such things are fairly meaningless. Legislation can easily define a site like ozpolitic an australian site on the basis of content and users/owners regardless of its physical location or DNS registration. |

We are all being watched.
Expect a knock at the door one day from men in suits with a serious look on their faces. |
Title: Re: Internet Censorship Post by Spot of Borg on May 1st, 2012 at 2:34pm
I dont know whats supposed to be "conspiracy theory" about this. Its just an information site about censorship laws in australia. Did you read it? Was it the word "secret"? You dont think the govt keeps secrets?
IMO the NBN is a blatant bid to have control of the internet in australia. If the govt controls it they can make whatever censorship rules they want to. SOB |

Tin foil hat aside, that is a load of utter BS. Passed into law, huh? In that case provide a link to the legislation please. (Given the Baron's past record of making stuff up, I'm highly skeptical one will be forthcoming). |

Yeah half of us are going to be arrested. The Federal Police are going to break down our doors and surround us with a SWAT team. We're some of the most dangerous people in this country. Enemies of state, we dare to defy the powers that be. haha

Who knows. Maybe. More likely it will be a humongous database full of IPs and who downloaded what when that they can access anytime they want and so can advertisers and prospective employers etc. Especially social media and ebay records. SOB |
