Okay we have all heard them. I didnt include the obvious ones that ppl are going to argue about cause this is a lighthearted thread. What conspiracy theories have you heard lately? Got friends that believe weird stuff?

this one I posted in another thread is one I got off a friend on facebook. I dont unfriend them because its kinda entertaining.  The basic theory is that rupert murdoch was behind the QLD floods.

My mother used to be really good at recycling conspiracy theories.  I can't think of them all right now but, out of your list, I do recall her talking about Chemtrails, Obama not american, Man didnt walk on moon and Roswell.  Also anything that Alan Jones talked about on his radio program was accepted without any questions being asked.....

The most prevalent one these days is that in any given field, plumbers, radio personalities and taxi drivers have a better understanding than experts in that field. It's sad how many people happily use the products of scientific research but have the pig ignorance to think that scientists are the perpetrators of a worldwide conspiracy.

I hate to think what will happen 20 years from now. Maybe the laws of thermodynamics will be repealed by parliament.

Damn.....why only give us ONE choice....there are SOOOOO many to chose from...

Conspiracy can be a lot like religion, an irrational explanation for a problem we.
But conspiracy is often based or reflective of a truth, often something serious which is ignored by the rest of society. Therefore conspiracy is often the result of lack of specific knowledge (usually through no fault of the theorists) or discussion about serious realistic things.

The Illuminati conspiracy has many different tangents but at its basic level is very true of the world we live in. A group of people controlling the world does seem out there, but then you remember the monetary system which controls the world is controlled by a small group of people.

Then you have the fact that conspiracies do happen. Ppl conspire. Its what we do. eg 4 ppl in a room and 1 leaves and the other 3 prank them when they come back. Thats a small conspiracy. Ppl and groups with lots of money and power can do bigger better conspiracies.

Still there are some pretty silly ones out there eg the reptilians.

Its perfectly understandable and more power to them for being cautious. Paranoia is a primitive instinct that if we did not have our species would have surely been diminished by a predator. In modern life we have not had enough time to adapt our instincts and they can 'overreact'. But then I shouldn't really associate the two so closely.
I think perhaps a lot of the time the committed theorists just want the possibility to be properly investigated, discussed and brought to attention. Which is more then fair, a lot of theories are very possible and as a strategist will tell you 'you plan for possibilities'.

9/11 is the good example, but I do not really consider that a conspiracy theory when the evidence for the theory outweighs the 'official' story.
WTC7 was the thing that really made up my mind on that one.
This is a key part and goes back to religion.. Where an agnostic like me would say that there is obviously something wrong about the official story, I do not know and will wait for evidence before making up my mind about who, what, when, why and where other theorist will need a straightforward answer to quell the unknown.

Conspiracy is in no way unrealistic and the fact we have become to believe it is not, is in self a conspiracy.

Obviously there a lot of silly ones, even silly ones which attach themselves to realistic ones (another conspiracy) but even the reptile thing has a good rational reason behind it. I remember reading one of the prominent reptile believers saying that 'people must not be capable of ruining our planet and causing so much human suffering' so they must be from another planet/species. Which to me just seems like someone trying to contemplate and rationalize a scary reality.

Yeah @ the paranoia. It is useful though. Sometimes things just dont seem right. If something isnt quite right you want to investigate it or have it investigated if you cant do it yourself.  Did you actually believe that WMD lie @ the time? A lot of ppl did.

I agree with the 11/9 thing. I have no idea what happened but I am pretty sure its not what they say happened. Some ppl need to have an explanation though and need to believe something. Yeah but why dont they just believe the official story? I think because the conspiracy theories are actually more plausible! WTC7 - I just looked it up because I didnt remember it. Geez that building didnt get much media attention did it.

Conspiracy has always been a dirty word. Associated with "crazy" like "CIA" and to a lesser extent "ASIO". Those words (cia and asio) used to be an instant block for ppl. Turn off hearing as soon as that word is mentioned. 20 or 30 years ago you were crazy if you even thought they exist. (I have a relative that worked for the CIA but he wasnt a "spy" so I knew it existed). It still seems to be an association of crazy if you mention conspiracy and CIA together in the same sentence. Makes me wonder just why this is. Are they the ones doing the conspiring?

As for the reptilians yeah maybe. In that case GW bush is definitely a reptilian and so are all the zionists. I know someone who was a scary religious person. They went from 1 religion to another needing to believe something I guess. I dunno. Now he has landed with the reptilians. @ least he has stopped with the bibles and korans and stuff though.

Useful and problematic at the same time. A lot of the time I think its just the lacking of proper and open discussion about things that spawns conspiracy.
I believed it was possible because I knew the US had bankrolled them in the past, so they could have given them a wmd before they stopped following orders.
But no not really, I knew that was certainly not the reason they went in. The best way to decide these things is to think about who is telling you. The US government gives me no reason to trust any word they say.

That's a good thing in my opinion, you are hearing from real people and in a matter of seconds you can hear from every side of a story. Unlike traditional medias which are one side of the story.

And the problem starts when legitimate theories get labeled as conspiracy, it is a powerful to which we have seen the government use many times. The best way to stop a movement or idea growing is to isolate it and label it.
The CIA is a common enemy, which is why I believe they are not at the heart of big things. One of the biggest truths today is that if you know their name or face they are probably not the people at the top of the pyramid.

Implants have their place in reality to, they are extensively researched and tested by private and military groups. Wether or not people have them, personally I think they would be a waste of resources because its possible to get that level of control without them anyway.

I heard them saying a plane crashed in there but obviously there was no plane. Then suddenly 2 days into it they stuck a plane in there. It was so badly done as to be unbelievable. Like copy pasted a plane into the picture. This - for me - cast doubt on the whole thing.

Well yeah that makes sense. Like I said though - the relative - they were very "secretive" but not in that way. More like well the CIA doesnt share their information with outsiders. They are most prolly not behind most things that are attributed to them but odds are they know more about those things than the rest of us. Prolly why they get fingers pointed @ them so often.

The oz govt. is legitimate at a lower level but at the top there are certain issues that our elected officials do not have a say in. It has been this way since the start and it is obvious to see as the country has always been heading in a direction irrelevant of the person/s in charge.
If they are out there it is because the US gave them as a present but I really couldn't care, if we allow terrorist nutjobs like the US  or scumrael have them then I would be more then happy for Iraq to have them.
Fact is, if the threat was as big as they claim something worse would have happened by now just like if Iran actually wanted nukes they could have got them in a backdoor deal years ago.

The pentagon is the 2nd biggest hole in the story and on so many levels it is wrong. One of the most incredible parts is the impossible feat of flying in which the hijacker would of had to perform, one that not even a seasoned pro with decades of flight time in a jumbojet could not do; and these guys had been flying cessna's for a few months.
The whole was also tiny, no debry left and most importantly no other structural damage done to the building.
But there are still another million points just regarding the pentagon.
