Title: Who is to be blamed?
Post by Maqqa on May 25th, 2012 at 10:06am
In this article "The alarm bell rings" it reminds us what the consequences of these scandals.

We see that the then Howard government lost 3 Ministers ie they did the honorable thing and quit. While in the year 2012 - over 4 years after this initial issue surface the person in question still hangs on.

So if Thommo is still hanging on - then whose fault is it if he's driven to the brink. The 4 contenders are:

(1) Thomson representing Labor

(2) Gillard representing Labor

(3) Abbott representing Libs

(4) Media

And now Abbott has committed a crime by suggesting that if Thomson resigns from parliament that the Libs will lay off him.
Abbott should get himself a good lawyer

So when given the opportunity to specifically identify who the left thinks is to be blamed - you all slink back to your hole. No courage? I didn't think so.

The case is simple.

When this issue first came out over 4 years ago - Gillard should have stood Thomson down. Just like Howard did with his 3 Ministers.

When the issue dragged on for more than 12 months Gillard should have sacked him but she was too worried about her own survival. Then at 2 years, 3 years and 4 years. Each time too concerned about her own survival. She had the chance to sack him while he was an ALP member. Now he's an Independent she has no say. Perhaps this was a sneaky way for her to take the heat off herself. Therefore she is the primary person to be blamed

Thomson should have quit - period. The LIBs sacrificed themselves for the greater good - the ALP will not! He cannot just make a decision to hang on and not then ignore the consequences of hanging on. Just like Gillard Thommo is to carry significant amount of the blame.

The ALP machine men should have pushed for Thommo to resign the same way they pushed Rudd to resign. They have not successfully done so - therefore they are to be blamed as well.

Abbott is an interesting one. In 2000 when the ALP first highlight the LIBs travel rorts which resulted in 3 LIBs Minister stepping down - did anyone blamed the then ALP leader? Not a squeak. If no blame was allocated then why is it different this time? The difference I think is because the ALP has no other defence.

Last but not least - the media. The media will be the media. It will only get worse not better. With full disclosure - there would be no tinder for the media to light. If Thommo resigned - there would be nothing to talk about. If Gillard had sacked him there would be no issue. Howard sacked 3 Ministers and the story died and the Ministers are still alive. Gillard hung on for dear life and this story continues.
