Cameron 'picked pro-Murdoch minister' for BSkyB deal
Britain's culture secretary is under more pressure after it was revealed he sent a memo to prime minister David Cameron in which he supported News Corp's takeover bid for broadcaster BSkyB. The memo, revealed at the Leveson inquiry into media ethics, raises fresh questions about Mr Cameron's relationship with Mr Murdoch's company. The inquiry was told Jeremy Hunt warned Mr Cameron that blocking the takeover bid would harm Britain's media sector. It was written several months before Mr Hunt was given the job of deciding if the takeover of BSkyB should happen. Mr Hunt was offered that task by Mr Cameron after business secretary Vince Cable was stripped of it because of his perceived bias against the bid. In a statement, the prime minister's office insisted the memo was "entirely consistent with [Mr Hunt's] public statements on the BSkyB bid prior to taking on the quasi-judicial role". The memo came out during evidence from Mr Hunt's former special adviser Adam Smith, who resigned on April 25 after it emerged that he had leaked confidential information to Frederic Michel, a News Corp lobbyist. In the memo, Mr Hunt told Mr Cameron that Mr Murdoch's son James was "pretty furious" that Mr Cable had referred the bid to British media regulators. It urged Mr Cameron "not to cave in" to criticism by BSkyB's competitors, including the BBC. News Corp was forced to abandon the deal in July 2011 amid the phone-hacking scandal at the now-defunct News of the World tabloid. The memo has raised questions about why Mr Cameron allowed Mr Hunt to continue to adjudicate that matter when he already knew of the culture secretary's strong support for the takeover of the BSkyB. Mr Cameron has already faced calls to sack Mr Hunt but he has refused to, saying that Mr Hunt has the right to give his side of the story at the Leveson inquiry. British regulators have recently stepped up a probe into whether BSkyB, in which News Corp holds a 39 per cent share, is fit to hold a broadcasting licence. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-05-25/hunt-memo-on-bskyb-deal/4032682 |

This is one of the many reasons the Conservatives are way down in the polls in the UK.
There should be a new election in the UK now we know about Murdoch's dirty deals with the Conservatives and his manipulation of the media and the public throughout the election process. |

Heres a story about blair and murdoch over the iraq war. Dunno why its on the news today but well there it is. Anyone watching the leveson inquiry would know that murdoch and blair had a falling out over the iraq war and thats when the media "switched sides" and stopped supporting the labour party.

It is sad that their influence and intrusion into politics is probably greater in Australia than the UK.
