I AM GETTING TO THE STAGE WHERE i THINK THIS SHOULD GO FURTHER.

UNLESS ADELCROW HAS ANY EVIDENCE OF ABBOTT BEING CHARGED WITH HARASSMENT
THEN I SUGGEST HE IS TREADING ON VERY THIN BOARDS AS i AM OVER IT..

I think it may be time for a bex, and a good lie down cods.
Firstly, I guess I will need to explain to you what a link is, as not knowing has obviously caused you to draw a wrong conclusion.
Asking people to provide a link means that when they quote, or copy material from another site, they use the little box up the top left of the reply box, the one with the little world globe picture in it, which brings up [url][/url].

Now, if I had copied and pasted a web address in between those two brackets with url in them, then it becomes a live link, which people can click on, to take them to the source material.
It is always good etiquette to do so, and sometimes a legal requirement when quoting from certain sites.

So, unknot your knickers Cods, and behave yourself, people here cut you a great deal of slack, because you tell them you are a little old lady, so they try to show restraint, but when you act churlishly, it will inspire a far different response, from some.

As for adels remarks, they were in reference to articles he quoted and linked to, which you were too lazy, or incapable, to bother finding.
So act your age, and grow up.

I am usually happy just for people to provide the URL, ie not a 'live' link. I do that myself most of the time. You should be careful clicking links as people can mask the target URL.

So as far as referencing source material goes, a plain web address is fine.
I don't have any issue with people posting live links to reputable sites, but I can see how it could be a security issue if people unwittingly link to a dodgy site.

This is a live link. If you click on it, it takes you to some other web page (in this case, LMGTFY which will perform a google search on the name of this site for you... but it could take you anywhere).

This is not a live link for exactly the same page -> http://lmgtfy.com/?q=australian+politics+forum

If you want to go to that webpage using the non-live link then you need to copy and paste it into the URL box in your browser.

Live links can potentially be dodgy but you can see where they will take you before you go there. For Firefox, just hover the mouse over it and have a look in the bottom left corner of the browser window. This shows the URL that the link will go to.

Actually there is a firefox addon that turns text links into urls and you can open in a new tab. Cant remember what its called I think theres several.

The [url] code will do a live link with the target URL as the text, if you do it the simple way as described above. But this can be also be done deceptively. I always check the target before following a link, mostly because if it takes you to a video or something it can chew up bandwidth of crash the browser.

I didn't have an antivirus on this computer until recently, and people post links to some dodgy looking sites.

You haven't been singled out Cods and again you don't read what is often said to a lefty. Mozzaok has said worse to me and others from both sides of  politics. You have said some pretty extreme things too. We all do sometimes when we get annoyed.

The mods didn't trash Mel. Another member who no longer posts here was responsible for her banning. People are rude on forums Cods. You should be used to it by now. We can't demand that everyone conforms to how we personally believe people should behave.

yes I too saw maccas post on Abbott and it was way before he was in politics.. this is what I was talking about..the way it was put on the boards over and over again.. it was just alluding to abbott sexual harassment change..no date or result of the charge..

On a serious note, this crap about me or any other so called lefty getting preferential treatment is just that, CRAP. I along with many other lefties have copped bans from here,we just dont whinge and whine about it like your lot. I've been banned by FD, Mozz, muso and perceptions now,and when your mate longwhine was mod he banned me 3 or 4 times. So, I suppose that negates your whining that we are some sort of protected species. There are boundaries SOB and Soren must stay within them.

In case you are actually being serious Cods, You are a perfect example of people who do not make a habit of being nasty and spiteful, even though at times you go a little far, I extend you the same leeway I do all members, who don't get deliberately nasty often.
The full stop in the first sentence you highlighted, was the end of that statement.
The Next statement, starting with, You are a perfect example, was in relation to you being not a serial nasty person, just occasionally mixed up, and frustrated, which sees you lash out.

You don't have to ask to be banned cods, you could just quit. Only joking, I appreciate your love of all things Abbott, it's quaint, and I'd hate to see you get banned or leave. The boards wouldn't be the same without you.

We should be able to joke around a bit more, it gets way too serious sometimes. If the people in government took it half as seriously as some on here do, we'd be on a winner.

Tony Abbott and the woman who accused him of indecent assault were both passionate political activists.

Helen Wilson was a trainee teacher and student newspaper editor at Ku-ring-gai College of Advanced Education, nestled in bushland at Lindfield.

At the more cosmopolitan Sydney University, Mr Abbott had burst like a snapping terrier into student politics.

He took on left-wing students in aggressive battles for positions on the student council and was a spear-carrier in a push to dissolve the powerful Australian Union of Students (AUS).

It was the late 1970s, and Mr Abbott and others who would later become prominent public figures were cutting their political teeth as the social tumult of the post-Vietnam era spilled onto the nation's campuses.

Political parties, and influential anti-communist groups such as the powerful National Civic Council, were active recruiters at a student level. Never before or since had university students held such political appeal - or power. It was an ugly and often violent time. The end result, for Mr Abbott and Ms Wilson, was a sensational charge of sexual assault and a date in North Sydney court.

An investigation by The Sun-Herald into Mr Abbott's controversial student days reveals that he spawned many more enemies than friends during those heady days.

"He was a very offensive, a particularly obnoxious sort of guy," said Barbie Schaffer, a Sydney teacher who was at Sydney University with Mr Abbott.

"He was very aggressive, particularly towards women and homosexuals".

Published university reports show that after a narrow defeat in the university senate elections in 1976 - Mr Abbott's first year of an economics-law degree - he kicked in a glass panel door.

In the ensuing two years, he was repeatedly accused in the university paper of being a right-wing thug and bully who used sexist and racist tactics to intimidate his opponents.

Lawyer David Patch, who is a Labor candidate in the federal seat of Wentworth, recalls an AUS conference in the mid-1970s, which had initiated a special "women's room" for females to discuss political issues.

"Tony used to stand outside the women's room with his right-wing mates and loudly tell sexist and homophobic jokes," he said.

Another ex-student, Peter Murphy, who described Mr Abbott as a "warrior on the Right" believes he was the one most responsible for creating the atmosphere of terror that reigned on campus in 1977.

In August 1977 students on every NSW campus were preparing to vote in a referendum on the future of the AUS. That's when Ms Wilson's and Mr Abbott's paths crossed. Both were addressing a rally of students, held in the Ku-ring-gai campus dining room.

The incident that prompted Ms Wilson's accusation occurred while she spoke.

When it came to court the following January, Mr Abbott was flanked by his parents, a legal team including a QC, and seven witnesses.

Advocates for Ms Wilson are to this day flabbergasted at the firepower Mr Abbott wheeled in, which left their under-represented side wilting.

The incident didn't seem to break Mr Abbott's stride, although his second tilt at election to the Student Representative Council (SRC) - which was happening at the same heady time - ended in tears.

Barbara Ramjan, now a social worker, who defeated Mr Abbott for the SRC presidency that year, remembers the night of September 7, 1977 when officer elections were held.

Two letters she wrote then to Honi Soit, a student newspaper, outlined her version of the evening. One letter described how throughout the evening Mr Abbott and his mates, including a dentistry student, harassed and insulted the women standing for election.

Outside the meeting, one woman "was confronted by J [the dentistry student], who decided to 'have a bit of fun' and exposed his genitalia to her as well as urinating against a tree," Ms Ramjan wrote.

"He dropped his pants [perhaps for Abbott's entertainment, he seemed highly amused] and bowed in Abbott's direction, flashing his bum towards the woman," the letter said.

In letters of reply, Mr Abbott compared the accusations to Nazi propaganda and said that the "facts" presented were "bare-faced lies or gross distortions".

Another letter by students Michelle Martin, Anne Woods, Garry Bennett and Ross Vines complained the meeting had been "characterised by an unending stream of sexist incidents and attacks by right-wing representatives and their cohorts" as well as a "racist attack against the newly-elected ethnic relations officer Takis Constantopedos".

This matter of the alleged assualt was again alluded to in the media in May 2012 when the Coalition dismissed the idea of a formal code of conduct for federal parliamentarians.

Abbott was no stranger to the airwaves in his uni days, granting an interview to the University of New England radio station 2UNE, the audio of which emerged last year. In a precursor to the Voluntary Student Unionism wars, Abbott says leftist special interest groups like women, Aboriginals, homosexuals and immigrants were unrepresentative of the broader student body.

“Well I see women as having an equal opportunity in every area as men have…mind you, I must add the proviso that while I think men and women are equal they are also different and I think that it is inevitable and don’t think it’s a bad thing at all that we will always have, say, more women doing things like physiotherapy and an enormous number of women simply doing housework and probably more men doing things like digging ditches…”

Other Abbott highlights were of course scattered in that year’s Honi Soit. In a breakout quote next to an ad for excellent Newtown noshery Pasha’s Kebab House, Abbott says it was “folly” that women will ever approach equal representation for “physiological” reasons. He also repeats calls for the end of political economy and general philosophy courses. Voluntary student union fees wouldn’t destroy the SRC but would “destroy the SRC as we know it.”
