http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/breaking/13866778/majority-oppose-carbon-price-poll/
The majority of Australians oppose government plans to price carbon, new polling reveals. Sixty-three per cent say they're against the introduction of a fixed price on carbon, leading to an emissions trading scheme. And 57 per cent say they're in favour of coalition plans to scrap carbon pricing. The results were revealed on Tuesday in The 2012 Lowy Institute Poll. The survey of 1005 Australian adults, conducted between March 26 and April 10, also showed the majority support temporary skilled migration to fill labour shortages. The federal government courted controversy last week, confirming plans to allow multi-billionaire Gina Rinehart's Hancock Prospecting to import up to 1715 foreign guest workers for her Roy Hill iron ore mine in Western Australia. But the Lowy poll revealed 62 per cent of Australians support an influx of temporary foreign workers. Eighty-one per cent were against foreign companies buying Australian farmland, while 56 per cent thought the government was allowing too much Chinese investment in Australia. Lowy Institute executive director Dr Michael Wesley says the results regarding foreign workers and ownership show Australians are anxious about volatility and exposure to the global economy. "We're aware that much of the rest of the world looks at Australia as a land of comparative wealth, and we're apprehensive about the possible downsides of that," he said in a statement. Meanwhile, 70 per cent said overseas demand for Australian resources has helped prevent the nation falling into recession. And 87 per cent supported Australia's close relationship with America - compared to 63 per cent in 2007. There was also strong support for last year's announcement that 2500 US marines will be based in Darwin on a rotating basis. The Lowy Institute will host a panel discussion on the findings on Tuesday morning. |

Poll taken before the compensation roll out (march-april)
Lets see the poll a month after the introduction, and they all see the sky didn't fall in. |

The tax free threshold $18,000, up from $6,000
The minimum wage increase that includes the carbon compensation, that abbott wants to take back from workers. oh, people will wake up to the con Mr Abbott is trying to pull here. Take back all the compensations and then tax people, and not the polluters, with the coalition's carbon reduction plan. And still fail on his 5% reduction promise. |

lets watch the ALP and Greens explain to the people why they brought in an unmandated tax they promised NOT to bring in. as soonas they try, they will loose even more votes and seats and give it to Abbott. And if they get too hysterical then they might loose enough senators to give Abbott a majority as well.

Ponzi scheme
A Ponzi scheme is a fraudulent investment operation that pays returns to its investors from their own money or the money paid by subsequent investors, rather than from profit earned by the individual or organization running the operation. -------------------------------------------------------- Sounds much like the Carbon Tax to me, and i thought such scheme's are illegal in Australia. I guess its one rule for the government and another for the people. People are waking up to it even many environmentalists as they see it as a do nothing tax that only benefits the super rich global bankers. |
Title: Re: 63% against carbon tax Post by Doctor Jolly on Jun 5th, 2012 at 8:30am According to fin-review poll, vast majority want action on climate change. So when an election is called, it will be Carbon pricing vs Direct action. Direct action has managed to stay out of the limelight so far, but under scrutiny it will prove very unpopular (expensive and doesnt do anything). |

Abbott wants to remove the compensation yet Abbott will not force down electricity and food prices.
Abbott is only wanting to increase profits for business by forcing up the cost of living for everyone. Say No To Abbott's Attack On Our Income. Abbott, Keep Your Hands Off Our Pay Increase. |

This is where the polls dont go into enough depth. Something like 70% want action on climate change. So if 63% are against the carbon tax, what do they want to do instead ? Of the 53% who want it repealed, what do they want instead ? Maybe the question they should pose is... What should we do about climate change. a) Price carbon b) Direct action c) Do nothing. Thats what the election will be about. |

No it doesnt. No details about the Direct Action plan have been released. If they dont like the carbon tax because it will cost them too much, they probably need to be told that direct action will cost them 2 to 3 times as much. |
Title: Re: 63% against carbon tax Post by Andrei.Hicks on Jun 5th, 2012 at 9:35am
I am in favour of taking action on climate change.
I am against a carbon tax - given this does nothing other than raise the cost of living on families and yet do absolutely bugger all to address climate issues. The real action will occur at company level - my company is a prime example of getting on with addressing the issues and not pandering around like political parties do. Last year we spent over $700MILLION on cleaner energy sourcing and delivery. Most companies in Australia do not even earn $700m and we spent it on environmental improvements.... That's where the changes will happen. Not some piss-ant feel good tax on middle incomes. |
