This isn't about Abbott. I was expecting such a reply. He's never been the leader of a state, or nation.

Ofarrel by far.

Ofarrell has been quite devious. As soon as he got elected, and started breaking promises, he took down all record of his promises from the liberal party website.

Also, he has enjoyed a vast majority, and little or no opposition. Breaking commitments now seems petty and for little reason (not like he had to form a coalition with anyone).

Gillard had to change plan on a carbon tax because circumstances forced her when joining a green/indy coalition.

I agree on O'Farrell, but that is a pathetic excuse for Gillard.

Okay, I agree. Gillard's lies will have much more of an effect, IMO, but O'Farell is still the same - an out and out liar.

I am not from NSW, can someone please enlighten me - what are O'Farrell's lies? Like I have stated before, Gillard's lie is not bad at all. She has clearly become aware, thanks in most part to the Greens, that climate change is real, and we need to take positive action on it. She may have lied, but it's for our own good, and the good of the nation. I am confident that most Australians will come to see that, and Labor will be elected next election. Hopefully we will have another Labor/Green government. That would be great, and a positive step forward for Australia.

Well the latest one was he went to the election promising not to sell the power generators.

He also promised not to allow hunting in national parks.

He just now did a deal with The Shooters Party in the Upper House which allows him to sell the Power Generators in exchange for allowing shooting in National Parks  :D

she did have an enormous amount of advisers and back up.. to tell her NO NO NO Juliia..when she pulled the wool over everyones eyes..

This was in one of Sydney papers just after the NSW election

Quote:
The Australia Democrats tradition of “Keeping the bastard honest.” So how about a thread of “Keeping Barry honest”

Here are 12 things that Barry O’Farrell and the Liberal Party promise before the election. Let mark off any that they back-down on, do back flips on, retreats on because of no money left by Labor, flip-flops or wimp out on for any other reason.

1)      “We are not closing schools, hospital or planning massive privatisation or job cuts.”

2)      “We will not cut the number of public holidays in NSW.”

3)      “We don’t have a default position that says privatisation is in our blood.”

4)      “There are no plans to hire Peter Costello, Gary Stugess or Ken Baxter.”

5)      100,000 jobs will be “targeted” for creation under Jobs Action Plan.

6)      Work on the north-west rail line will begin in the first term.

7)      As the economy improves there will be a need for “more, not less” public sector jobs to fix NSW.

8)      Family members of politicians will not be hire to work in ministerial offices.

9)      The coalition will depoliticise appointments to the senior ranks of the public service.

10)      Train fares will be cut by more then $100 a year.

11)      The old politics of smear and fear and untruths is in the past.

12)      No offshore outsourcing of public sector jobs or services.

It was his own mates who called him a lying rodent and he was very often cynically refered to as honest John.

He is best known for coining the term non core promise, which means election promises which you do not have to keep.

Which century was the WMD lie made?
What century was the children overboard lie made?
What century did Abbott lie and claim a carbon tax was the best way to battle CO2 pollution?
Which century did Abbott lie about the carbon tax ruining this country and its economy?
Which century did Abbott lie about the NBN being a white elephant?
Which century did Abbott lie about the mining super profits tax driving miners away?
Gillards lie was nothing compared to Abbotts litany of lies

To be honest, just off the cuff I can't think of too many promises O'Farell has broken. Mind you, that's probably because he's hardly DONE anything.

I was hopeful he'd be OK but allowing shooting in national parks has meant the hope is withering.

Never ever a GST under any government I lead - John Howard.

http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2004/08/17/1092508474312.html

Quote:
But when a businessman asked why, if a GST was so economically sound, Howard wouldn't again support it, he gave a long answer which included, in part: "... We would occasionally like to win, you know. The fact is the last election was a referendum on the GST.

There is no way we can have it as part of our policy for the next election. As to what happens some years in the future, I don't know. But the GST cause was lost in the last election ..."

Every news outlet ignored it except The Australian. It ran a single-column story on its front page next morning, saying Howard had "left open the possibility of the Coalition reconsidering a GST some years in the future".

Howard panicked. He'd told the truth in answering the businessman's question. Now he felt he had to lie if he wasn't to sabotage, after 22 years in politics, his last opportunity to be prime minister.

He issued a four-sentence statement saying, "Suggestions I have left open the possibility of a GST are completely wrong. A GST or anything resembling it is no longer Coalition policy. Nor will it be policy at any time in the future. It is completely off the political agenda in Australia.

" Later that day, confronted by a clamouring press pack, he compounded the lie. Asked if he'd "left the door open for a GST", Howard said: "No. There's no way a GST will ever be part of our policy."

Q: "Never ever?" Howard: "Never ever. It's dead. It was killed by voters at the last election."

......... He announced a "great adventure" in tax reform he wanted to "share with the Australian people".

Six months later, we learned the heart and soul of this "adventure" was to be the introduction of a GST.

And how did Howard rationalise his "never ever" pledge? He didn't. He simply lied again. Howard told Parliament in April 1998: "I went to the 1996 election saying there would not be a GST in our first term.

John Howards GST - Lie after Lie after Lie..

I bet if anyone keeps stats.. the Labs would win hands down when it comes to broken promises and lies..

I dont recall Howard getting a tongue lashing after the GST election????

It was his own mates who called him a lying rodent and he was very often cynically refered to as honest John.

He is best known for coining the term non core promise, which means election promises which you do not have to keep.

You missed the two big ones, children overboard and weapons of mass destruction. One lead to the continuing persecution of a vulnerable demographic the other lead us into a pointless and expensive war.

Abbott

This isn't about Abbott. I was expecting such a reply. He's never been the leader of a state, or nation.

I still say Abbott

and I say Joh BP

How dare you compare that wonderful, Christian gentleman with the thing that we currently have as PM. I bet that you were under 20 when he was Premier of Queensland.

Never ever a GST under any government I lead - John Howard.

Did Howard take it to the 1998 election, after changing his mind?

Did Gillard take the carbon tax to a new election, after changing her mind?

Sure, and are you also a Gillard supporter? No active Christian, and I am one, could support her.

I am 89. I have voted Country/National in every single election in which I have ever voted, except for One Nation in the Senate a few times. Joh was an absolute gentleman, who I had the pleasure of meeting on more than one occasion. He is one of the best leaders that we've ever had, and it's a shame that he never did become Prime Minister.

Look a lot of ppl dont like gillards policies and thats fine but not voting for someone because of their religion is ridiculous and bigoted. This is not a theocracy. It doesnt matter what religion (or none) a pollie has. Unless they are fanatical in which case they should never get near the PM job.
