At the start of World Refugee Week, the Australian Greens are introducing legislation to parliament that would give refugees the right to appeal against adverse security assessments by the national security agency.

The Australia Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) has ordered nearly 60 refugees - including six children - to be indefinitely detained, deeming them as a security risk without telling them why.

Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young addressed a crowd of protesters on the matter in the South Australian capital, Adelaide.

Rallies were held across the country as part of the United Nations' World Refugee Week, which began on Sunday. World Refugee Day is on Wednesday.

Senator Hanson-Young says the Greens will introduce the bill to the Senate on Monday.

"These very vulnerable people, including children, have been charged, convicted and sentenced, without a trial, without any understanding of what it is that the government believes that they have done," she said.

The party's action "is simply about giving them a fair go".

The Greens - not even an elected Government think that all that they have to do is introduce a bill - none of their bills have anything to do with the day to day running of the economy, they are all involving radical and profound change to society and our national sovereignty, therefore no Greens bill should ever be considered until it is supported by a referendum or a plebiscite mandate.  And then, and only then should the elected parliament debate it to determine if the proposed change should become law.  The Greens are not a constructive political party, they are an activist Group with no understanding of the democratic process except how to abuse it.

Then you better run for parliament whitey, so you can oppose progress.

Actually it is democracy. your Tony Abbott is playing his cards badly and so advantaging the Greens.

Just because you don't like the results, doesn't stop it being democratic.

I often wonder that myself. There are only three main parties, so one out of three is ok I suppose, especially considering one is right wing and the other is fundamental religious fanatical right wing, so you wouldn't expect either of those to have social or humane policies at the top of the list.

Greens care about the environment and people, the others care about big business and profits at all costs.

Its time all parties stopped pissing on the constitution.  Abbott is on notice, think twice about bypassing the will of the people.  We are not interested incommunist political thuggery.

So why haven't the Libs learnt from this. They elected a leader who is economic illiterate. Who lost the last election because he couldn't negotiate. Who has led the Liberals further into the political wilderness and now is recognised as a leader who is holding the party back.

Unless the Liberals dump Abbott before the next election, Greens will benefit big time from the politically naive Abbott and his followers.

So Maqqa, for the sake of the Greens benefit, don't back Malcolm Turnbull.
