Australia Post may be delivering fewer letters but the evolving online world has done little to hamper its services - quite the contrary.

At WA's first 24/7 "superstore" - which opened in Perth this morning - customers will for the first time be able to obtain and renew their driver's licences, shop online, exchange money and book a holiday.    :)

They also will be able to pick up parcels at any time of the day or night, with 52 parcel lockers. Customers will receive a SMS or email alerting them the item has arrived.

The ability to get a driver's licence at the post office is a national first and only available in WA.

The Perth superstore on St George's Terrace is one of 30 set up across the country in response to the boom in internet shopping and other online services.

It features a "digital essentials zone" to allow customers to shop online via Apple Macs and iPads, as well as a travel booking counter, an American Express currency exchange outlet and a concierge to help customers.

Ten million Australians now shop online and Australia Post said parcel volumes had increased 22 per cent in the past 12 months, surpassing an average national growth of 11 per cent in the same period.    :)

Lets face it most things are imported these days. Even Blundstone boots are made in Vietnam so why are you paying for the greedy middleman when all you need here is the delivery service ??

And a nice little Post Office it is too.

Nice and handy, right near my office.

I made use of the American Express currency exchange this morning, and got a reasonable rate.
