A POLITICAL lobby group leader who recently collapsed during a live national television appearance says he's planning to stand aside from his role.

Simon Sheikh, the national director of activist organisation GetUp! for the past four years, says he had been planning to take a break from the role for several months, the ABC reports.

"I've been considering this decision over the last three to four months and I actually made the decision before appearing on Q&A," he said.

"But unfortunately, after what happened that night, I had to delay my decision and go back on Q&A and draw a line under that incident."

Mr Sheikh collapsed during a July 2 appearance on the panel of ABC's Q&A alongside Liberal MP Sophie Mirabella and Climate Change Minister Greg Combet.

He was taken to hospital, where doctors told him he had a clean bill of health, but was suffering from the effects of flu and overwork.

That last paragraph tells us something is wrong, since when does someone step down from a job when they are given a clean bill of health?

Waking up to the sound of Sophie's arm fat flapping by his ears probably made him realise that there are easier ways to make a living

How much were we paying him for his important role?

GetUp do not get government funding, it would jeopardise their cause and their position to tackle all injustices.
