Title: Ex PM says it is Racist
Post by skippy. on Aug 14th, 2012 at 4:36pm
Fraser agrees with what I wrote last night, if these refugees were white farmers from Zimbabwe we would accept them with open arms.
We could learn a lot from our  PMs before the lying little rodent.

Former prime minister Malcolm Fraser says recommendations in the Houston report on the processing of asylum seekers are ''racist'' and in some ways worse than the Pacific Solution under John Howard.

Speaking to the National Times over lunch at the Asylum Seeker's Resource Centre in West Melbourne, Mr Fraser said that with it being proved how mandatory detention traumatises refugees under the Pacific Solution, it was even more inhumane to reintroduce it.

Mr Fraser said amendments to legislation allowing offshore processing of asylum seekers that will be put to Parliament this week would needlessly punish some of the most vulnerable people in the world.

''I think the impact will be tougher than Howard's Pacific Solution because there is no time limit on how long people will be in these detention centres, it's indefinite,'' he said.

He said children held in detention would be worse off under the recommendations.

''The minister will no longer be guardian of children, so the convention on the rights of the child, which we've agreed to, suddenly means nothing.''

Mr Fraser said the amendments would not stop the boats and that more people would be at risk of drowning.

''The Liberals and others say that Howard stopped the boats, but if you look overall at what happened, the Taliban fell. The numbers of refugees going to Europe fell just as dramatically at the same time and no country in Europe had yet introduced the punitive measures that Australia introduced.''

Mr Fraser said the sensible alternative was to have large processing centres, in Malaysia or Indonesia, with the commitment that those recognised as genuine refugees would come to Australia.

More than 246,000 refugees, mostly from IndoChina, came to Australia under the Fraser government. The current humanitarian intake is 13,750 per year.

Mr Fraser said that very few boats landed in Australia during his time because there was an organised alternative.

Just 30 boats arrived in the last four years of his prime ministership.

Mr Fraser said the Houston panel's recommendations were racist because if white farmers from Zimbabwe had fled persecution to Australia via boat, they would be accepted.

He said he hoped the amendments would be challenged in the High Court.

''I would be delighted to think it might be open to a High Court challenge but they will obviously be trying to cover their tracks.''

He accused the Labor and Liberal parties of ''behaving disgracefully and damaging Australia's reputation, not just in our own part of the world, but right around the world''.

Because it is.

Xenophobia at its most pathetic.

When off-shore processing was introduced by the Rodent, I opposed it, and regarded it as a crime.

I still do, except Gillard and Abbott have both compounded the original crime by not halting it.

The Greens are the only ones to even come CLOSE to an acceptable solution.

The others can go to Hell.

Invalid on (at least) 2 counts:

1.  No guarantee that "they" would be accepted.  It's just a prediction.
2.  Everyone else is accepted too.

He has failed to even hint at a double standard, let alone prove it....but why would he bother going into any depth when simply uttering the scarlet letter has you clapping seals lining up to suck him off?

Fantastic.

So, in the absence of any specific criticism, we simply have the catch-all cry of "dass racisss", backed up by the ironclad reasoning "because it is".

The world debating championships are beckoning.

No-one cares what you think you haven't been in politics since 1982.

Get you snout back in the taxpayer trough and be quiet.

So what if it is racist, thats the society we live in, oh and if you want real racism with real consequences look back at Bosnia and Serbia, or Sudan, countries where the race you are cost you your life?????

BTW who wants the unwanted assylum seekers, and how many should we take, no one has yet to put a number on how many boat ppl we should take??? why is that?

Non citizens and illegals dont actually have rights conferred to them under Australian law - under our laws, the right to sanctuary, asylum, justice, life & security is only a legal given for freemen under the constitutional covenant...  :) :)

There is going to be an increase of refugees from our region by 20,000 a yr increasing to 27,000 a yr in this package so the racists are not gonna be happy when they find out we got far less by boat than we are going to get under this latest plan.

Yes.

If their objective was really to prevent deaths at see as they say - why not just allow asylum seekers to buy a plane ticket?

No - shuffle them off at enormous expense to a tiny Pacific island for a few years, treat them like criminals -  then let them in.  What a stupid idea.

Like say 2 000 000 or so, seems fair, shouldn't cost more than $60 - 70 billion per year for a few decades or so, until they 'settle' in and look after themselves
.

I mean some african countries get that many easy; mind you they don't feed, house, clothe give money, fly around the country, provide free legal service or pretty much anything at all. But they still take them so we should take that many too.

We could single handedly solve the world's reffo crisis by taking the lot, it would make us the envy of the world with all our humanity.

FFS pick a number and then work out how we are going to pay for it.

Still no numbers from the leftists, just insults and ignorance from the skip d1ckhead.

We already take over and above our fair share of refugees allocated to us yet the dopey crusted on leftists are ignorant when it comes to facts.

We have been taking in around 13,000 per year which is well above the 6000-7000 that are allocated to us under our obligations so to say we should take our fair share could indicate we could halve our current intake and still  take those 6-7k genuine refugees allocated to us.

Are you the exact opposite of a xenophobe skip?
Would the exact opposite of a xenophobe be someone who promiscuously embraces foreign cultures while snobbishly rejecting their own homegrown culture?

Are you a xenomaniac skip?

Not running gulags in Nauru and PNG would save a lot of money:

Re-establishing a processing centre on Nauru is expected to cost $1.4 billion and re-opening processing on Manus Island is expected to cost $900 million.

Skippy,
I'm not that happy about the high numbers of Sudanese coming here.
I suppose if they were educated it would be ok.
Most of them only learnt how to dissassemble, clean & re-assemble an AK47 for their education.

I don't want any religious nuts coming here - be they muslims or christians.

I just wish that we'd unsign the refugee convention & not accept any refugees.

I hate all religion, Muslims are no more loopy than bible bashes. A lot of good migrants came here that couldn't speak English, as long as they are prepared to learn it and contribute to our society why are current refugees any different to Greeks or Italians that came here unable to speak English?

because we can ... because 1 or 2 hundred years from now if the tables are turned, and if your grandchildren or their children ever have to flee for their lives, you would hope someone would be in a position to give them a chance  ... they don't want free houses etc (despite what some morons on here say) they just want a chance to live their lives in safety and to provide for their kids .... which is probably the same thing you want for your family ... if we cannot help now, with the overabundance of prosperity that we enjoy in this country, when can we help?

We can't even look after our own quarter of a million or so who are homeless in this country. Look after our own before we take in others.

These boat people barge in and are on the take.

There is at least a 5 year waiting list for public housing in Canberra. How has Captain Emad's family all ended up with public housing?

I suppose if you're on the public housing waitlist, best to catch a plane to Indonesia and get on a rickety boat. The red carpet will be rolled out for you.

Skippy,
I'm not that happy about the high numbers of Sudanese coming here.

Do China or Malaysia accept Sudanese refugee people?

Why is it our duty somehow?

because we can ... because 1 or 2 hundred years from now if the tables are turned, and if your grandchildren or their children ever have to flee for their lives, you would hope someone would be in a position to give them a chance  ... they don't want free houses etc (despite what some morons on here say) they just want a chance to live their lives in safety and to provide for their kids .... which is probably the same thing you want for your family ... if we cannot help now, with the over abundance of prosperity that we enjoy in this country, when can we help?

John,
We already have over 100,00 people sleeping on the streets.
Is that your definition of prosperity?

sorta sums it up ay?? I often wonder when we have had 20K unwanted assylum seekers who then us ethe family reunion con an dbring over their family how many public houses have been taken/given to the unwanted asylum seekers, even if it was say 10 000 public houses, that is a massive amount of housing taken out of the pool, it would be like all the dwelling in a town the size of Toowoomba or Rockhampton??

Fkem off sendem home no one wants em here.

so where did the Libs force anyone???..

it was a deadlock.. not just the lIbs and then her majesty gillard called in the problem solvers..

and guess what it came back and bit her on that large posterior of hers.....

SHE IS THE REASON FOR THE DEATHS !!!!!

something like 700 and counting..since 2007.

yep all on her watch.

if she and rudd had not cancelled the pacific solution all because they thought they were going to save the world..!!!!!!!!!!.. we are so full of ourselves..... OK..

thereby allowing the people smugglers to reform once again...then there would be no boats or almost no boats and no deaths...

so dont think you can swing that one on to the Libs because history is there for all to see now...

this past 5 years will go down to a very sorry history for Labor...got not a thing to do with the Libs..

dont expect the libs to vote for something they dont believe in.

their not like those independents.

yes ... you will find that most of those on the streets have other problems, be it alcoholism, drug addiction, anger management issues etc and they live on the street because they cannot co exist with other people ....in every modern society you will have homeless no matter what policies you implement .... our numbers are actually quite low . the fact that they exist is not an excuse to not help others in need.

waiting lists depend on what area you are in ... i know areas with 8 yrs waiting lists, and others with 1 yr .... emads family was probably willing to move to an area less popular ...

why do you assume all asylum seekers end up in govt. housing without waiting? I once heard of a sudanese family of 6, asylum seekers , who were renting a 2 bdroom unit and living in cramped conditions, had been there for at least 2 yrs because thats all they could afford , they were on the waiting lists as well ...  why do you try to imply that asylum seekers get rushed into govt. housing while everyone else gets pushed back to the end of the queue?

Yes, I have spotted Mal at the local soup kitchen in Parramatta. He wears a disguise and pretends he is down on his luck just so he can get a free meal. Old habits die hard. I've also noticed him stuffing his pockets with biscuits. Politicians, both serving and retired, are against spending their own money.

It was in independent committee, no one is forcing Gillard to do anything.

To stop the deaths, you stop the boats.

Of course, nobody would dare even try to expand on that.  Waaaay back in reply #6 I stated 2 quick reasons why it's nothing more than a dog whistle...strangely that was skipped over, inadvertently proving my point.

john it does happen in logan in outer brisbane. mainly in the form of people (say an elderly couple in a 3 bedroom home who are moved into a 1 bedroom unit often with lots of druggies and hoons as neighbours0  the house is then given to an assylum seeker family,  i can give 3 addresses where this has happened.
the local school has 13 children in grade 1 and 2 who speak no english and (whilst they do get some special help) it is obviously not ideal for the classroom.

again , it's always the working poor in outer suburban bris, sydney and melbourne who have to do the assymilating whilst the good people of toorak, double bay and st.lucia  do all the lecturing and none of the hard yards.

there would be an enormous outcry if these kids were put in class with well off kids and the teachers had to cope.

again, assylum seekers are not looked after by medicare, they are looked after by a private contractor called international medical solutions.  again, this group has instant access to whatever medical care is needed and there is no wait.  it seems wrong to me .
