Title: The Welfare Board. Post by Kat on Aug 15th, 2012 at 9:31pm This is the place whewe we can discuss issues relating to welfare. Discussions about wealthfare are welcome, and WILL be given due credence. Are you a single mum? A middle-aged unemployed? A DSP recip? A drug addict trying to get clean and get work? A struggling single-dad? Been shafted by Centrelink? Tell us about it. Has Centrelink done well. Have they helped you? Tell us about it. There is only ONE rule (so far). Wanton abuse of welfare recipients WILL result in exclusion from the discussion. Geniune arguments are welcome. **I'm feeling my way here myelf, so please do bear with me.** |

Can we discuss dole bludgers too?
I have gotten lots of money from the government. I didn't need any of it. |

Yep, them too.
I just felt that the subject couldn't be discussed on the main fora without threads being wrecked and lots of abuse being hurled. At least if they all do it here...it doesn't destroy the rest of this (very good) forum. I don't know whether this will work, but thanks for giving me the chance... Thanks, FD, again. And if you and the other admins want to move threads here, up to you, but go for it. Best place for some of them. |

Get off it as soon as you can. (except if you are caring for someone even less fortunate. Then stay and more strength to you.) |
Title: Re: The Welfare Board. Post by Kat on Aug 15th, 2012 at 11:01pm Thanks for your total lack of anything worthwhile, Soren. The deal is, we discuss welfare here. NOT dole-bludgers, not single-mums-with-six-kids-to-four-fathers. And the very reason I started this board was to get away from the brain-dead anti-unemployed ratbags from PolSux and actually have a sensible, legitimate discussion about what is, like it or not, a major issue.. Several of our members, both past and present, have fought for a better deal for welfare recipients. Some have given up and left Some have passed away. Some, sadly, have been bullied into leaving (Vegitamite, anyone?). I'm not going away..... |

It's a worthwhile topic for the forum Kat.
The unemployed need all the help they can get, we all know the government is doing all it can to stifle them economically and emotionally. The frightening thing is, what other indignities they will be forced to suffer if we get a Liberal government in power. They're certainly not known for helping the downtrodden. The pensioners would still be far worse off if not for the Greens twisting the hand of Labor to give them a small increase. All together pensioners Thank You Greens Australia |

Like dole bludgers? come on down.
I really have nothing against the very few people that we call 'dole bludgers'. The ones that, for whatever reason have decided that work is not for them. The proportion of funding for them is far less than what is wasted on government 'incidentals', morning teas and luncheons, personal improvement seminars (that no one wants to attend, if they had a choice), and multitudes of other wasteful gimmics that are part of daily life in government departments. If someone decides that they would rather live on the pittance that is unemployment benefits, all power to them. It leaves a job vacancy for someone who wants to and needs to work. The 'dole bludger' is so called by jealous people who wish they could do the same, but don't have the intestinal fortitude, or brain power to exist on the the minute amount of money they get. Who would bother to cry about 0.001% of their tax dollars going to someone who prefers an alternate lifestyle? Not me, I couldn't give a fig. We will always have unemployed people, so chill out and give them a break! |

Do I have to be, in order to support those on welfare? I don't play football either, but I still support a team..... |

I'm with you on this one, Kat.

There would be much, much greater support for welfare recipients if there was low or zero rorting.
Helping the needy improves social cohesion and solidarity. Conversely, throwing money at the undeserving or rorters reduces cohesion, reduces solidarity. |
