Title: Smoking is healthier than gay marriage Post by Shane B on Sep 5th, 2012 at 5:45pm
THE head of the Australian Christian Lobby (ACL) Jim Wallace says smoking is healthier than the lifestyle that would be promoted by same-sex marriage.
Mr Wallace made the claim in a debate on marriage equality with Greens leader Christine Milne at the University of Tasmania on Wednesday. Answering a question from a student on the relevance of his views, he said health statistics among the gay community were worse than those for smokers. "I think we're going to owe smokers a big apology when the h omosexual community's own statistics for its health - which it presents when it wants more money for health - are that is has higher rates of drug-taking, of suicide, it has the life of a male reduced by up to 20 years," he told the audience. http://theaustralian.com.au/news/breaking-news/smoking-healthier-than-gay-marriage-acl/story-fn3dxiwe-1226465837582 |

All those priests that fiddled with little boys seem to have lived to ripe old ages so pedophilia must be good for your health according to the church

i'd be interested to know if there are any stats on the % of pedophiles in the clergy versus the percentage of pedophiles in the general community. not defending priests but i have seen a LOT of sexually abused kids and i can only recall one who was abused by a priest. i can recall several from teachers , a helluva lot seem to be step fathers, uncles and family friends. is the priest thing backed up by statistics.?? |

Hmm - neither a homophobe nor an homo... :-/lover here - but it seems his logic is flawed. If gays have a higher disease rate through promiscuity - does not marriage solve part of that problem?
Besides - give the gay community enough time and enough tries at marriage and they will demand that the government take that 'right' back..... ;D |

No I don't think so. Promiscuity is rife in gay partnerships as being in an 'open relationship' is much higher in the gay community. It's all hip tolerant, and cool to root around. |

Seriously the only reason SINGLE gays men are more promiscuous is because they are male. The gay women arent so much. Singles of all persuasions are promiscuous these days but as you can see form elvis and amadd rants there is still a stereotype for women. Promiscuous woman are perceived as "sluts" but men are not. Straight men would be just as promiscuous if there werent such perceptions of promiscuous women. I think you will find times are a changing though and theres a lot of it in all persuasions of single ppl in australia. SOB |

Does he have, or not have a point about higher rates of drug taking and sucuide within the gay community.
One could go so far as to suggest its people like old mate that are in part to blame. Some gay people who are unable to deal with the abuse of others including their families turn to a dark side. Tolerance and acceptance is a cornerstone to success in society. |
Title: Re: Smoking is healthier than gay marriage Post by Avram Horowitz on Sep 6th, 2012 at 11:57am
You can accept or tolerate gay people in society without bring the gay marriage into it.
Many people - me included - are ok with gay people but do not want allowance for them to marry. I think it is not a society accepted thing and it will also upset and cause problems for religious people. Gay people have to also accept and be tolerant of others' beliefs - i dont think that they are. |

A poll does not ask everyone and 60/40 is a long way from being a accepted norm. It is a problem issue which is not clear cut - there must be a third way found. This should be for gays to be allowed to have the relationship but not a marriage. People must meet in the middle. |

Most people keep their opinions to themselves, unless prompted. Even then, they tend to hum and haah and try to avoid giving an answer that the interlocutor doesn't want to hear, without lying to themselves. The key to tolerance and acceptance is knowing when to STFU. |

Shane B is presenting a clear economic choice here: whether to join the gays and commit suicide, or whether to indulge in simple pleasures, like smoking. Both have economic conseqences I am sure you'll agree.
Personally, Shane B, I won't be doing either, thank you. I would much rather pray and read the Bible. Matty will be returning soon, and he'll need all the help he can get. I really need to look after.my health. |
