Innocent man wrongfully detained and drugged Martin Zavan, ninemsn 3:06pm December 26, 2012 A Perth man was wrongfully detained and given anti-psychotic drugs after he was accidentally mistaken for an escaped psychiatric patient. In mid-December a patient left Perth's Graylands Mental Hospital without permission and police were called in to help locate the man, PerthNow reports. On December 16 a man fitting the patient's description was picked up by police and taken to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, where he was held overnight. The man was then given anti-psychotic drugs which caused an adverse reaction and resulted in him becoming ill. The real escaped patient returned to Graylands on December 18 and staff realised a mistake had been made. Minister for Mental Health Helen Morton has apologised for the "dreadful mistake". ""I am very sorry for the distress and hurt that the misidentified man has endured. The incident is being investigated by health authorities and the Western Australian Police. Source: WA Today |

Title: Re: Government Snatches and Drugs Man Post by John Smith on Dec 26th, 2012 at 3:24pm
simply a case of mistaken identity by the police .. why make it sound like it's some sort of govt. conspiracy?
I'm sure the police should have just let him go when he said 'it's not me, you've got the wrong man'... after all, they only hear that about 100 times a day. It shouldn't happen but occasionally it does. |

That kind of crap happens all the time. Not so much the police as the medical facility. Of course the man denied being the escaped guy but they didnt believe him.

Title: Re: Government Snatches and Drugs Man Post by pansi1951 on Dec 26th, 2012 at 5:42pm The hospital had a duty of care to ensure it was the right person, before they started sticking pills down his gob. Were they too busy or too lazy to check the records when he said it's not me? They are liable. They'll never improve if they're allowed to get away with such incompetence. They must be held to account. State governments cannot cut back on health services without expecting similar outcomes. |

Title: Re: Government Snatches and Drugs Man Post by pansi1951 on Dec 26th, 2012 at 6:59pm I doubt many would be that forgiving and neither should they be. You're giving them the green light to do it again, and the next poor sucker could have an adverse reaction to the drug. I doubt the health department would be looking into it unless an official complaint was made. Giving the wrong person, the wrong medication is a biggy. Granted, everyone makes mistakes, but they shouldn't be swept under the carpet. |

Title: Re: Government Snatches and Drugs Man Post by Spot of Borg on Dec 27th, 2012 at 4:14am
You ppl have no idea about real-life do you. The police just automatically decided he was the guy and ignored his protests to the contrary. Prolly didnt even ask his name. They take him to hospital and hospital policy is believe the police even if you know its not true. Doublethink. Doesn't matter how much the guy protests theres no way anyone is going to believe him if the police said something different. He prolly was calmly telling them he wasnt who they said he was - @ least until they started drugging him. There was no way they were going to listen. I have worked in the field and i have seen this crap before. They always take the police word for it and never question even if they know the police are wrong. Its policy.
The problem is that sometimes the police are wrong and since they can (in some states) just throw ppl into those places on a whim there should be some checks and balances. SOB |

unfortunately, as usual , you are 100 % wrong ;) ;) you are the one that has no idea how the real world operates. in the army when someone dies, we dont have a witch hunt run by government fat cat lawyers and bureaucrats. in the army we reward good behaviour with medals. in hospitals and the police force which are areas where rapid decision making (usually on incomplete or incorrect information) is required, the situation is very similar to a field of battle. cops, doctors are rapidly processing information and making decisions all day long. it is NOT the equivalent of a job packing cartons. mistakes are inevitable, perfection is impossible. this is very similar to the army. to maintain morale and get the best out of people, they CANNOT be made to feel that someone is constantly monitoring them, waiting to pounce on every mistake or guess what , they shut down. you see this already in health and the ploice. people who move slowly, have lost their drive., would rather write parking tickets than attend a violent robbery. the cops and dcotors who put themselves out there for the good of the community should be rewarded with a medal (a carrot), not an inquisition ( a stick) the carrot is always a more effective motivator of good performance than a stick. you dont understand people spot, they arent like trekkies you know :D :D |

what you fail to realize borg, is that over the last 20 years there has been a massive increase in public servants employed in health, law and order and education. one would think their role should be to assist the operational elements of these critical areas to deliver services. what their role has increasingly becaome is to scrutinize, monitor and report on the actual people delivering the services. as such they have, probably been a massively expensive failure. sure you need some monitoring but 14,000 public servants just in the one building in the cbd of brisbane in the health dept to monitor and report on 1000 doctors. and thats not including the massive numbers employed in the hospitals themselves who add yet another layer of micro management. expensive, inefficient, counter productive, ;) ;) ;) |

head office of the qld health department in brisbane had it workforce reduced from 14,000 to 12,000 by campbell newman.
these people dont see many patients :D :D :D total number of doctors employed by qld health is just over 1000. total number of doctors in the ACT stands at 840. of these 450 are employed in public servant positions and do not see patients, this despite the ACT having a doctor shortage and importing doctors (stealing them) from south east asia on work permits which only allow them to work in public hospitals as public servants and make it a sackable offence to speak to the media. PA hospital, royal brisbane hospital and mater hospiotal had overtime bans on all elective surgery for the moth of december to try and make budget. 8 of the 14 full time radiologists at RBH have resigned and gone private. the fully functioning mater children and royal childrens hospital (both already refurbished and 2 of the largest paediatric hospitals in australia) are being joined into one mega paediatric hospital to be built (brand new0 at a cost of 2.5 billion as per anna bligh. the health department payroll installed at an initial cost of 60 million dollars has now had over $1 billion (thats billion) spent on it to try and fix the glitches ) and is still not functional. that is but one of the reasons for the mass resignations. but fear not, all those crap doctors and nurses just love morons like spot kicking the crap out of them for working in such a system :D :D :D :D |
