Title: Australian Workers Confident Of Pay Rises.

Aussie workers more confident of pay rises than any other employees

    AAP
    February 07, 2013

Three-quarters of Australian workers are confident their pay will rise this year, a big increase from two years ago.

AUSTRALIAN workers are more confident than any other employees around the world about receiving a pay rise in 2013.     :-?

The latest Randstad Workmonitor report says three-quarters of Australian workers are confident of a pay rise this year, a dramatic increase on two years ago when just 46 per cent were expecting a boost to their pay packet.

This confidence is not shared by workers in many of the world's largest economies, with just 41 per cent of French, 42 per cent of Japanese and 57 per cent of German employees expecting a pay rise in the coming year.

Employees in the UK and the US are also less confident, at 61 per cent and 69 per cent respectively.

Randstad, a global recruitment and HR services specialist firm, said the expectations among Australian workers could present problems if organisations weren't performing well financially.     :(

"A patchwork economy is still visible in Australia, with some businesses struggling while others show strong growth, so it is vital people have realistic expectations when it comes to pay rises," managing director Asia Pacific Deb Loveridge said, releasing the report today.

Businesses needed to be open with employees to prevent workers feeling disappointment and resentment if they didn't get a pay rise, she said.

Only 43 per cent of workers described the economy as "bad", compared with an average 61 per cent of employees worldwide.

The least confident were in the euro zone, where 98 per cent of Greek employees, 96 per cent of Spanish and 94 per cent of Italian labelled their national economic situation as "bad".

Over three-quarters (77 per cent) of Australian workers believed their workload increased last year, above the global average of 73 per cent.

Well if those at the top are looking for pay rises, I am sure no one will complain, when the low income workers want a pay rise, later in the year.     :-?

they are probably confident that after sept 14, some of the waste will stop and the economy will improve.

they also see the benefits of enterprise bargaining

I'd rather have a tax decrease.

Workers pay is only just recovering from the Howard period. Workers can expect the opposite after Sept 14 is the conservatives have their way.

How can you expect a pay rise when the economy is heading down hill?

I don't think its fair that you can only by products from overseas and put aussies out of a job, why can't we buy services too?, why can't I get a chinky chonk builder over here to lay brick on my new house for two dollars an hour?, why is it OK to send retail broke but not every other industry?

Because bricklayers (of any nationality) working in Australia get more than two dollars an hour.

If they lay bricks here, they get the rates paid here.

::)

You can employ them to lay the bricks in China for you for $2/hour.  No problem.

I'm on another forum and the tradies there are carrying on about how they can purchase sh#t overseas for so much less and they don't give a f#ck about the jobs lost in retail so why not purchase their services overseas too?, they're a rippoff as well, why can't we fly Chinese tradies here to do their job too?, why should it be only retail that suffers?

I know a guy who wanted to build his house ... worked out all the specs, had a long list of what he wanted and went to China and bought it, everything from timber to roof tiles, taps to kitchen cupboards  ... filled two shipping containers and shipped them home ... total cost was about $30g ......... how much did he save?

Would have spent well over $100 000 to buy it here ... next time I build I'm going to try it as well.

With retail we are not primarily talking about cheaper product from the third world, We fail in competition agains the USA, Canada and the UK.

In a lot of cases product purchesed from bricks and mortor establishments in these countries and shipped to Australia are up to 100% cheaper.

The problem is that our market was protected from reality for so long and our people were locked into the no choice no competition model that they were getting away with ripping us off for many decades.

They still have not worked out that the jig is up, they can not lock us into a closed market and steal from us.
