Title: Oakshott on the warpath! Post by olde.sault on Mar 16th, 2013 at 7:20am Yes, the one who stood as a conservative in the last election then metamorphosed and latched onto Gillard's tit. He wants Gillard to close down 2GB (doesn't like the songs they sing about him). Either that or he won't back this new law the left bast*rds are trying to pass to gag criticism from the media. What have they got to complain about? They've got the ABC pushing them (and us) all the way to cliff's edge! Such cowards! They've done everything to ruin the country but don't want it known. How can that be kept a secret with business doors closing everyday and illegals sailing in by the boatfull? Stalism is taking over! |

'Going nowhere fast' Proposed media reforms The appointment of a Public Interest Media Advocate (PIMA) to oversee self-regulatory bodies such as the Press Council. The PIMA, who will be appointed by the Minister, will decree whether a media complaints handling body is "authorised". Only media organisations that are members of an authorised body are able to maintain their exemptions to privacy laws. The PIMA will also use a new public interest test to allow or prevent nationally significant media mergers. An extension of the Government's commercial television licence fee rebate - saving free-to-air television networks an estimated $134 million this financial year. A removal of the 75 per cent audience reach rule that prevents metropolitan television stations from owning partners in regional areas. An update to the charters governing the ethics and behaviour of the ABC and SBS to reflect online and digital activities. Mr Oakeshott says he is unhappy with the Government's wish to have the full package of legislation rushed through. He will sit on the parliamentary committee that is considering one part of the media package on regional content. Mr Oakeshott says if he is not satisfied by Monday's committee hearing, he is not going to back the Government. "In the end, if that can't be resolved, certainly from my point of view, I'm going nowhere fast with this," he said. "That would pretty well rule me out completely if we can't resolve the importance of local content." Fellow independent MP Tony Windsor says he does not believe there is no wriggle room in the Federal Government's media laws. Mr Windsor says despite what Senator Conroy says, he thinks there is room to manoeuvre. "I've heard ministers and others say over time 'I can't move, it's rock solid and we can't adjust it' - well nothing is rock solid in politics and neither should it be," he said. "One of the great benefits of a hung parliament is everybody gets to have their say." Former Labor MP Craig Thomson says the proposed laws are a "missed opportunity" and has urged fellow crossbenchers to join him in voting against the reforms ;) |

Last night on Channel 7, "Today Tonight" Later in the night, I heard the same from Steve Price on 2GB. Oakeshott wants "shock Jocks" taken off the air (of course, not those who call Abbott a "misogynist" - let these rip!) Yes, the fragile lily is definitely spitting blood. |

Today tonight and Steve Price? Authorative??? Taking shock Jocks off the air would be a good thing, they only add negativity and have no up side at all. We would be much better off without their rubbish. |

the one who stood as a conservative in the last election He stood as an independant? He wants Gillard to close down 2GB Not a bad idea though it would be 100 to 1 of being true, and a few of my mates would lose their job. What have they got to complain about? They've got the ABC pushing them Analysis shows that the ABC overall tends to favour the conservatives. |

No - but you are obviously not taking your Geritol. 1. metamorphosed ? 2. Oakshott did not stand as a conservative - he stood as an independant, and was voted in as an Independant 3. Evidence that Gillard wants to shut down 2GB? 4. If anything, by and large, the ABC are conservative leaning. 6/10 is your score. A poor effort. More attention to detail needed. |

A stupid remark, the ABC it's brazenly biased towards the left. Don't blame them, it the left that will keep them in jobs. Oakshott stood as an independent but pretending to favour conservatives. His electorate is made up of coalition supporters. so there'll be no way he'll be elected again in that area. Can anyone forget his "It will be beautiful in it's ugliness"? (something to this effect) or his maniacal cackling? |

Fred, What does B/S bigfella (B/S) mean by "6/10"? I'm afraid I'm not up with today's vernacular. |

Who cares what Oakeshott wants.
In six months he'll be out on his arse anyway. He left his run too late to be taken seriously now by his electorate as an independant. |

It means I gave you 6 out of 10 for your reply. Surely in your many years undertaking education you would have seen 6/10 or similar? Maybe yours was a bit lower then. Sorry ::) |
