In order to pass the Carbon Tax lies - Gillard had to sweeten the deal with giveaways.
These giveaways are paid for by the carbon tax These giveaways are predicated on the carbon tax These giveaways are DEPENDENT on the carbon tax No carbon tax - no need for give aways Over the next few months - Gillard will tell you the LIBs will cut your giveaways She will make it look like these giveaways was independent of the carbon tax So everytime she yells "LIBs take your goodies" you need to ask her if it relates to the carbon tax. |

Hi Maqqa - why don't you start a pro-Labor thread?

Title: Re: All Carbon Tax related giveaways will be reviewed Post by Peter Freedman on Mar 29th, 2013 at 9:59am
I assume the "giveaways" Maqqa is on about are the compensation paid to people like pensioners to offset the increases in prices caused by the carbon tax. If the carbon tax is repealed business will not reduce its prices. Business doesn't do that.
So the justification for the compensation will remain. Abbott will find himself no longer receiving any income from the tax, but still having to pay compensation for the tax, even though the tax no longer exists. So, Maqqa, how is the Great God Abbott going to deal with this little problem? |
Title: Re: All Carbon Tax related giveaways will be reviewed Post by philperth2010 on Mar 29th, 2013 at 10:05am
Compensation removed but prices will still rise.....Of course this will only impact low and middle income earners who receive the bulk of the compensation.....Abbott must still provide billions of taxpayer dollars to support his own direct action policy.....No doubt the services and spending he will cut will also impact low and middle income earners.....Removing the carbon tax will only shift the burden to the majority of Australian's who will have to pay for Tony Abbott's useless direct action policy!!!

We know prices tend to be sticky downwards.

So you are now talking about profiteering - which is unrelated to the carbon tax As for Profiteering - Gillard has given the ACCC to monitor and punish those who used the carbon tax as a profiteering excuse. I am sure this can be used to deter profiteering This profiteering due to the carbon tax should not even be an issue if Gillard didn't implement it. So if you have concerns - blame Gillard |
Title: Re: All Carbon Tax related giveaways will be reviewed Post by Peter Freedman on Mar 29th, 2013 at 4:33pm
Quite simply, prices will not be reduced. The justification for compensation will remain.
Abbott is building himself an intractable problem. |

All Carbon Tax related giveaways will be reviewed
Originally Abbott committed to keeping the compensation packages in place - He justified this saying that the increased prices would not go down. He later when showing his real policy on removing the carbon price committed to all compensation being removed - justified by saying the prices would come down. In terms of this thread the current Liberal position is not to review the compensation just to remove it - all of it for everyone. |

Of course the ACCC would have to prove any price increase after the carbon tax was due only to the carbon tax. The whole thing will be a farce. |

In this case who ever said that I had any great confidence in the ACCC and restricting prices, but the measurment does show that any profiteering has been minimal. That is what the ACCC do - watch price increases - not price reductions (it does not happen) and it won't in this case either. |

(2) So the question here is - why are you attacking the system that Gillard's using? (3) If you have not criticised Gillard for using this system then you have no credibility in attacking Abbott for using the system This is about hypocrisy When Gillard uses the ACCC to stamp out profiteering - you stay silent If Abbott uses the ACCC to stamp out profiteering - you are vocal that it won't work So is this a real discussion about the ACCC or is it an opportunity to show your bias? If it's a real discussion then you would have done so when Gillard first used it!!! |

The problem is that because our economy has done so well despite the rest of the western economies doing so poorly that the opposition and their sheep like cheer squad have no option but to invent an economic crises within Australia that doesn't exist.
Australia has done very well for the last few decades and all the bitching and whinging is only because Howard and Abbott lost two elections. Unless there's another "Tampa" moment Abbott is likely to win the next election so the sheep will have no one to blame but themselves when we then follow the rest of the western economies into a long and deep recession. Standby for a decade of 70's-80's Fraser/Howard era inflation, unemployment, debt, interest rates and hopelessness. |
