Title: Home owners benefitting from lower interest rates.
Post by MOTR on Mar 29th, 2013 at 1:01pm
Remember this scare campaign.

Quote:
Coalition frontbencher Andrew Robb says despite the rate rise, voters will recognise it is the Coalition that has the experience to steer Australia through tough economic times.

"What Australia can't survive would be the wages breakout and then the interest rate breakout that would inevitably occur under Labor's industrial relation policy," he said.

Let's ask an average Joe homeowner about interest rates under Labor.

Quote:
Hockey, in responding to questions about his home mortgage, said he spent less than a quarter of his income on repaying his loan.

"I, like others, have taken advantage of the lower interest rates to try to pay down the principal," he said.

Must be why the ALP have been so popular the last 3 years?

And by the same token, people with savings have been hurt by lower interest rates.  Big deal.

lower interest rates because the economy was starting to tank is hardly something to be excited by, And given that under labor, bank margins on mortgage loans are 2% higher than they used to be, howards promise that rates wuld always be lower under the Libs remains correct.

Sssoooo Longy you're saying Abbott will bring down interest rates even further and screw over those with bank deposits?
Well... I happen to agree with you..coz as we all know the recession Abbott will drag us into will have exactly that outcome.

I remember when you couldn't get a home loan if it meant your monthly repayments were more than a 1/4 of your monthly earnings.

:)

Unless you're saying Abbott will create even more growth in the economy and in doing so will bring down interest rates even further while giving those with bank deposits higher earnings on their money. Im sure you're not saying that unless you're somehow retarded or live in an alternative universe

Bingo!

That would explain Longy's imaginary facts.

Longy is saying Australias economy will be much stronger and grow much quicker under an Abbott govt even though the rest of the world is still in and out of recession and China is on the verge of a credit bubble burst.
That could only mean higher interest rates to try and keep a lid on  the over heating economy and inflation etc which would attract a ship load of money from overseas investors which would push the Aussie dollar even higher making things even more difficult for Aussie companies.
Longy..you shoulda done economics 101 at uni instead of the Libs online economics 101  :D
Longy worships Abbotts magic pudding view of economics  ;D

it is quite amusing in a sad-loser-watching kinda way listening to the increasing desperation coming out of you bad-sport laborites.

with the latest poll making it almost 60/40 it is understandable. your party is about to get crushed out of competitiveness for a decade or more.

You're talking as if the election has already been won, Longy. 6 months is a long time in politics.

it can be, but only if the public are listening to you. Ask John Howard, he knows all about it. Once the voters stop listening to you, its all over. It is all over for Gillard and the only question left is the margin. And based on her recent desire to do everything she can to ruin labor's rep I suspect a 45 seat loss is not unlikely.

adelcrow, Mr Abbott will not be bringing interest rates down. That is the job of the RBA.
And if they bring rates down further it will be a signal that we are in deep doo-doo.

A little bit premature commenting on Abbott's fiscal credentials. Last election he chose not to audit his numbers and got caught out with a $10 billion black hole. At the end of the day, if Abbot can't keep inflation in check, the RBA will do it for him.

Read again MOTR, a bit more carefully. I was referring adelcrow to the fact that the RBA decides on rate movements.
But I have every confidence, atm, in the abilities of a coalition govt. After all, we had 11 years of stability to inspire confidence.

I understood exactly what you were saying. And I was referring to the reality that if governments can't keep inflation in check the Reserve Bank will do it for them. So in many ways Abbott's fiscal competency will shape our interest rates.
