Remember in 2007 the conservative fear campaign was all about Labor driving interest rates up to incredible levels and inflation going through the roof.

The level of debt is not a problem at the moment. Delivering a surplus this year would have done more harm than good.

Lets not forget the Howard Government promised more spending and the Coalition proposed tax cuts instead of one off stimulus to combat the GFC.....Both measures would have pushed the budget further into debt with less capacity to raise revenue.....It was the Howard tax cuts that put the budget into structural deficit in the first place!!!
