Title: Gillard growing and growing as PM. Post by TheGreenLight on Apr 25th, 2013 at 3:55pm
Is it just me, or has Gillard really been growing and growing into the role of Prime Minister? I was a big Rudd fan (and still am) and was very angry when he was deposed, but I think that Gillard has done a very good job, especially given the tricky and far from ideal of being in charge of a minority government. She's really been coming into her own the last several months, at, unlike at the start, really looks, acts and has an air about her befitting a Prime Minister. My only hope is that a lot of other people notice this, especially the all important swing voters, and re-elect this government, hopefully in minority with the Greens again.

Gillard lost the confidence of the Australian people long ago when Abbott and his shock jock mates began their campaign of "search and destroy."
She'll lose the election by a crap load of seats and we will be left with a megalomaniac who will just end up implementing the usual far right neo con tactic of "Divide and Conquer" for the next three years. |

Given that the Libs wont have the numbers in the Senate to get rid of the price on carbon and according to Abbott its the Oppositions job to oppose everything we'll be pricing carbon for a very long time into the future. Once Abbotts in the Lodge he wont give a toss about the price on carbon..its all about power..not principals. |

Abbott really doesn't give a toss if we have a price on carbon or not..all he's worried about is grabbing power. You'll find that when he gets into power he'll just use the excuse that he tried but he cant get any of his asylum seeker or carbon policies through the Senate so we'll just have to put up with it. Seriously...if you think Abbott actually cares about any of the crap he carries on about you're in for a big surprise. Like all pollies his priorities will take a dramatic change when he finally gets into a position of power. PS,..All pollies lie, Gillard Abbott and everyone before them will say and do anything so I know that before he becomes PM that he will continue to lie through his teeth just like everyone else in Parliament. |

Abbott and his "shock jock mates" hated Kevin Rudd with as much passion and are as anti-Rudd. Yet - 1) Kevin Rudd remains the number 1 choice of the Australian people for Prime Minister 2) Julia Gillard has led Labor to its worst polling in opinion poll history and trailed the Coalition for its entire term. Therefore, is Gillard not the issue?? |

I do think that history will shine a different colour on this government and it's achievements but in present day this lot couldn't sell an Anzac badge on Anzac day. The problem is they have had very very stupid advice and on some level have made some terrible policy decisions.
Let's look at a few examples: 1. Tony and turnbull announce an nbn alternative policy. It's crap. The business groups say its crap and the independent experts say it's crap. But what does the government do? Try release their attack dog conroy, who is a wanker and despised in the electorate. Gillard, not really a mention. This is the first fully funded policy announced by the coalition, announced by tony, and instead of all the ministers beginning a campaign against it they let conroy, a man who is dull and noone listens to, do all the talking. Then, the next day they decide it's more important to talk about a fast rail link between Melbourne and Brisbane; something that will cost billions as will never happen. Sorry... But WTF??????? Where's the political sense? Where is it, to realize the last thing you want to talk about is a futuristic project that will cost billions? Why not attack a stupid policy by a self confessed "non tech-head?" 2. Media reforms. Good idea in principle yet no consultation at all and a measure included in the policy that can only send warning bells: a ministe appointed individual to oversee the regulation. Not only does it play towards liberals campaign that labor are full of bureaucratic union officials embroiled in corruption, but in general it's a very very bad idea. WTF?????? 3. Gonski. Experts claiming the policy had very poor consultation and even Gonski himself rejected their policy. WTF????? How can they lose on education to a barking chihuahua screaming Conski and that's it???? 4. Asylum seekers. Enaging in The fight to the bottom of the barrel, to capture the hopes and dreams of xenophobics around the country. WTF?????? 5. Mining tax. Poor design because of "negotiations" that turned a good policy into a WTF???? 6. Calling a fixed price on carbon a carbon tax. It's like they wanted to lose a fight against the nutjobs like Allen and tony. 7. Allowing tony to go on tv and say, "I'm sorry but we will all have to share the pain and lose some benefits we've all grown accustomed to." yet, superannuation changes to the top 1% is bad bad bad and superannuation tax changes to 3.4 million of the lowest paid is good good good. WTF??? Where are you labor???? If a person is going to vote tony who is in the 3.4 million then you know you've lost. Especially of they agree they should burden the pain, but the wealthiest should still get a benefit. WTF??????????????????? It's almost like we agree with tony that poor people existed in Jesus's time so it's only normal. Seriously...WTF????? Labor lost the plot not just because of some poor policies. They just can't sell anything and aren't politically astute enough to realize when to capitalise. Howard was a magician at it. Gillard is woeful. |

Exactly. It doesn't matter what this government is achieving now, even if it's good. We just don't care anymore. After 2.5 years of bad polls, nobody cares enough to vote for Julia anymore. She's gone. I am not impressed, especially when I hear about (1) removal of discounts for upfront payment of HECS fees, (2) cutting support for single mothers, (3) still giving too much funding to private schools and (4) having your treasurer say it's no longer worthwhile to get a budget surplus and then continuing to cut costs anyway!!!! You're playing a game of tennis. It's 2 sets to Love and you're not doing anything to win this one. You continue to double-fault and lose points. Hardly a way to win the match is it? |

OMFG ;) no one would turn up for that. they shouldnt have even got a wild card entry into the tournament |

Are you seriously asking this question of a union planted stooge who has done more damage to the ALP brand that anyone else I can recall and has produced the worse polling figures I can recall against an apparently unelectable Abbott ? Let me ask a question of you...... if I said 10 years ago that Abbott will be walking into the job of PM with polling figures opposition leaders only dream of what would you think ? That has to be mostly credited to Gillard, but to be fair Swan and rest played their part in destroying the ALP brand. Gillard and the ALP ..... including Rudd ..... have behaved like an opposition party in government, in no way has the ALP looked comfortable in government, most of the damage has been self inflicted. |

Instead she left her Rooty Hill bunker and a few weeks later announced a $21 million gift to the Disney company to shoot a movie in Oz. well there are criticisisms from university professors who are probably the worst judges around. Then there is criticism from oakshott (enough said!). there was criticism that it would use more electricity and was therefore bad for the climate! There was a ZDNET article claiming the plan needed more analysis which was amusing since the labor NBN began with virtually none at all. gizmodo takes a non-partisan view and considers it a good compromise. most of the strident criticism is nothing more than opinion or the 'we want it fast and we want it free' crowd. Im not seeing a lot of 'coalition NBN is crap'. most see it as what it is - a compromise between performance cost and delivery. and most say it is more than fine. |
