If this happens to you, please post a link to the thread here so that I am aware how often this problem is occurring. The more often it occurs (that we know about), the more effort will go into fixing it.

Symptoms:

If you make the first post on a new page, your post will not appear until another post is made. It will appear in other locations - eg your recent posts and the list of posts that appear below the edit box when you hit reply. Each page has 15 posts, so if you make the 15th, 30th, 45 reply etc, it will happen.

Another symptom: when you hit submit, you get directed to the wrong post - ie to the post immediately above yours. The number at the end of the URL you get directed to after posting will be one less than the number of your post (this should be immediately above the first sentence you post, on the left).

Causes:

The YaBB developers and the host (hostgator) disagree over who is to blame, and no-one is doing anything about it.

It appears that occasionally not all the files get updated after a post is submitted, which leaves this lingering problem.

Solutions:

Bump the thread to make the post appear (ie submit another post).

Forum maintenance (not sure if this fixes it - will take a closer look next time).

A new host for the website.

But the problem persists.

Is this problem related only to the very first post, onto a new page ?

I believe that this problem has caused me to 'double post' [i have re-posted], when my a new post, did not 'appear' at the end of the updated page/thread.

I have just added a new post to the;     Atheism      Is Atheism a Religion    thread.


My new post appeared.

AND my older post, which was previously designated as # 659, has now appeared on the new page, and is now designated as post #660

this isnt about page changes but speed. ..I dont know if anyone else has this problem.. but sometimes getting into ozpol is that slllllllllllow..a sign comes up across the bottom of the screen

Also, please check the number of members and bots online next time it happens.

It probably has the same root cause as the new page issue - a slow server not handling the traffic.

I think it is an ISP problem. The Members' ISP, not this site. Traffic.  ;)

I concur.  The posts arnt showing but something more curious is happening.  The right column says, for example, that mine was the last post and then when I go into the thread the post doesnt appear. AND then even more curious, when I log out and view the thread as a guest the post appears BUT when I login again the post disappears again. Curiouser and curiouser

I just started having problems with my PM notifications yesterday also.

Notifications..  yup..

I've had a BOX appear off and on...  for a couple of months or so now,  telling me I have new notifications.. and the number appears,  and agrees with the Count at the top of the forum page.. 

there is a box to tick...  for each Notification
and there are lots of them.. 
that indicates  DELETE.

There are Buttons 
OK   CANCEL

If I click OK and choose to see these..
I end up at a listing of posts...
and a message at the top... 

there are NO new notifications.

If I Cancel.. I'm not 100% sure but notifications seem to drop off after.. 

I generally  X out of it now,  but it is tiresome..

FD....it is happening all the time.  I did mention a possible solution not too long ago.  I think it's still available.

The hosts have made some more changes that should hopefully fix this now. Please let me know if you notice more problems.

It's a server problem. Whenever it gets bad I ask them to allocate more resources to the site. It seems to help.

Yeas, I know.  I gave up linking the Threads ages ago because of your lack of maintained interest.  Many Members will be able to tell you that in at least two of the larger Threads....today.....there was the usual.

I just tested 3 threads that had previously been reported. Looks like the maintenance has fixed all the old threads with the problem, so please let me know if any new ones show up.

I just found an easier way to check if a thread has the bug - click on the "last post" link on the board index. If it doesn't take you to the last post, the thread has the bug.

Nah.....I'm giving up 'reporting' this FD.  It is everywhere.  I tell you about it....and nothing changes.  How bloody frustrating!

I suppose if, in the fullness of time, people leave here because of that totally fixable problem....you'll be content to hum to yourself that 'some things were never meant to be.'

How about we fix the cause rather than worry about the band-aids.......

When a post is made, it ought immediately appear.  There should not be a need for any other action.

Fix the problem.
