Title: Discussing Dole 'upstairs' verboten? Risking ban?
Post by Kat on May 15th, 2013 at 2:26pm

This from 'Politicians Suck' yesterday...is he serious? Does he REALLY think we should be suspended/banned (silenced) for posting on this subject? Or is it simply because we support a raise for the unemployed rather than opposing it?

I really don't think Crook deserves to be banned/suspended for posting on this subject. Last time I looked, this was a political forum, and welfare was a valid political topic. I also don't think the question of whether Crook is employed or not is relevant, he posts often regarding other subjects, not just welfare. And his calls for a raise are not extreme, but are generally supported by business, welfare groups and charities, and the community at large.

As for thrice-weekly threads on the same subject, he'd do well to look in his own backyard, at the likes of Maqqa who often post multi-threads daily on the same subject. The name-calling pot is definitely ebony-coloured....

As you can see, I pulled him up on it, so then I copped some of the same. I'll be getting to that later.

Some (not all) of the right-leaning members of this forum seem to delight in being as abusive as they possibly can, not only to the unemployed themselves, but also to those who in any way support them. This is one of the reasons I asked Freediver if we could have a dedicated Welfare Board. Not just to discuss the dole, but all welfare including pensions, the DSP, the single parents' payment etc, and be able to do so in a moderated environment in order to cut some of the worst abuse. So what happens? They won't come here to debate and discuss, but are happy to continue their abuse on other boards.

[
Now we come to the comments directed at me....

Longie (and, no doubt, others from the right) seem to think that I, also, only ever post to 'give more to people who dont work'. This is patently and demonstrably untrue. Actually, I comment on many political issues, and am also active in Chat, and in Tech, where I have been quite happy to help people (even righties:-) with computer issues, and am also a contributor to Moses' Programs thread. I post occasionally in Thinking Globally as well.

We're NOT 'whining' we are keeping attention on an important issue, albeit one that conservatives vehemently oppose. Wanting us silenced because of it is a bit OTT, in my opinion.

It would also seem that some believe that I'm only speaking to other forum members, and that 'they're getting tired' of those supporting the unemployed. Well, not only members read this forum, far from it (as I show in the pic below) and if I/we reach even a few of them, our job is done. The fact that some right-leaning members of the forum don't want us to post on this subject shouldn't be allowed to stop us from doing so.

A quote from a post of mine from yesterday....

**I'm sure that, if what Crook and I post about was out-of-line that FD or someone would have indicate this by PM or similar, before now. This has not occurred.**

Your thoughts??

I support your right to talk about welfare as much as you like Kat.
As for imcrook, I frequently have a go at him on various things because it has always seemed to me, here and previously on yahoo, that he just provides a daily bulletin from party central on the issue of the day. He never goes into much discussion on anything, he just posts news items which accord with his position.

I don't think crook deserves to be banned but if so there are plenty in front of him.

I am not sure his posts on the topic are that frequent but if so I have no issue with them being rolled into the same topic.

However again there are a mile of other examples of the same thing from others.

At one point we seemed to have about 15 concurrent Thomson threads and it is seldom that you can not find at least 3 versions of the same topic on the front page.

Though with the poor standard of topic naming it is more understandable, often you get to play surprise topics because you have no idea what it is about till you look as the topic has nothing to do with the title.

Oh, how true!

Must admit I did get a good chuckle out of this part of your comment though.
