Obeid threatens to sue NSW Labor:

Disgraced former NSW minister MP Eddie Obeid is trying to head off expulsion from the Labor Party by calling in the lawyers, Fairfax Media reports.

Lawyers for Mr Obeid have written to the ALP warning of legal action if he is expelled from the party, the Sydney Morning Herald says.

NSW Opposition Leader John Robertson demanded Mr Obeid be dumped from Labor in March after he and his family became the subject of the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC)'s largest ever investigation.

ICAC has been examining allegations that Mr Obeid made millions from a coal exploration licence issued for Mount Penny in the Bylong Valley in 2008 by then NSW resources minister Ian Macdonald.

A letter from Mr Obeid's solicitor, Tim Breene, to NSW Labor executive officer Elizabeth Scully outlines that party officials are acting prematurely in moving to expel him before the ICAC has delivered its findings, the paper says.

The inquiry's findings are due later this year.

what is it about the ALP... he seems to think he cannot be expelled...their charter must cover every shonky deal a labor minister can ever think of doing.. this guy is bent double always has been...yet here he is sayhing you cant get rid of me just like that??,... how come?

see where OBEID has been  found to have lied to ICAC when he claimed Mcdonald had never been in his office.. one person who had the office next door to Obeid said it was a well worn track down the corridors from Mcdonalds office to Obeids.. and a couple of others have said the same thing.. one even said he lived in there...lying coot...hope they throw the book at him..

Expulsion???, sh!t I would have thought the labor party would make a statue of him after that effort, makes the rest of the parties thieving and rorting look piss weak in comparison  ;D

they probably will....weve got one of Al Grasby the man who opened the doors to the mafia in fact he laid out the red carpet from memory... so why not one of OBEID>. HILARIOUS...I think all the other crooks in the party over the years will get upset though and we will have a whole string of them..Brien Burke..Murphy... oh gawd.
