Now there's an empty slogan if ever I heard one.  You tolerate what you must, boy, but mouthing the party slogans buys you a little respite from the tyrants of the day.

Way to dress your insignificance up as virtue.

peter if you allow things you can do something about annoy you.

what happens with the things you cannot do anything about??????..

they will drive you insane..

best to switch off..the tele..

or the forum.

or come to the conclusion most irritants go away after a while.

the little prince is someones child/grandchild/heir to the throne..and we all think we have a little prince or princess dont we.. not a thing wrong with it.

asylum seekers...well maybe thats what we were in years past... looking for somewhere better/cleaner/bigger.. than where we were born...

who knows..we are decent citizens and thats what matters.

intolerance...peter you need to take a second look at your thread???

The royal baby is worth about 5 minutes of anybody's time.
Asylum seekers I don't mind on the Politics board where they belong, where people can argue and let off steam to their hearts content or just indulge.
Intolerance is in the eye of the beholder. I can't tolerate muslim suppression of women ot the fascist nature of the religion in general, other people can accept it.

Just doing a little stirring, cods. When the royal baby appears on the screen I leave the room.

I am tired of Australians' obsession with asylum seekers, but it doesn't upset me, just makes me sad.

I am a very tolerant person. After all, I put up with you.

You are also even more tolerant for bothering about me.

So you are intolerant of, intolerance, eh ?

That sounds like a mental contortion, to me!   [.....or a butchery of the English language]

Is there anything else you are intolerant of Peter ?

How about rapists and murderers, and other criminals ?

Or is it just the intolerant, that you are intolerant of ?

well said peter you covered yourself well..

I think its aging to be honest..we dont need to feel older by worrying about the unimportant..

its interesting you know because watching all the hoohaa over the new prince I wanted to be there and just soak up some of the good cheer and atmosphere..I think it would have been wonderful..yes it is just another baby, but fancy being able to bring all those people together..patting each other on the b ack sharing a beer with a stranger..

isnt that better than shooting each other up or bashing someone senseless on a Saturday night like we are seeing here.. I know which I would rather...

got talking to a complete stranger today in the foodhall waiting for my sandwich. she was mad as hell about having to buy another car after hers was written off..and all the cost and rigmarole involved.. and now she was waiting for someone to ring and tell her the car was ready to be picked up...and on and on she went.. so in the end I said.. well how are you then? [as she was driving the car at the time]. and she said oh I am fine and so was the other girl...well then  alls well isnt i???.. you can replace a car but you could have lost a leg or an eye..or even a whiplash.can bugger you up for yonks.....

so I did get a smile out of her.. and I trust gave her something positive to talk about..

we should not dwell on the negatives so much..we have a huge amount to be grateful for..

look in a few weeks we will have got rid of this bloody awful govt..think positive ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D :-*

The Royal baby? There are at least two more to come, so brace yourself. Consider this one as an inoculation against feeling too sick about the next ones coming.

The Asylum-Seekers? There are a lot more of them to come, so brace yourself for that too.

Intolerance? Isn't that another word for 'bugger OFF WE'RE FULL!' ~ ?

The problem with your sort of 'intolerance' is that you want to please all of the people all of the time. You are the type who would offer a burglar a cup of tea rather than risk him thinking ill of you.

It's taken generations over hundreds of years to develop the cultural heritage you now enjoy and benefit from, and yet your understanding of how hard-won this heritage has been is almost zero.

Your 'tolerance' is borne of complacency and a very poor understanding of the generations of various sacrifices that has given you your life-style today.

You're an ingrate.

Your 'tolerance' is that of the coward who has no appreciation of how hard-won our cultural inheritance has been.

You are like the rich man's son who has no understanding of the value of money in terms of hard work.

In all honesty, I would have to say that I'm totally onside here, Pete.

BTW - what do you think of:-

1) The Royal Effing Baby
2) Asylum Seekers
3) Intolerance?

These seem to be much in the news lately, just wondered what you thought.

Personally, I'm sick of The Kid - nice but done to death.

Asylum Seekers will always be with us like Descartes(? - or was it Voltaire?) poor.

They oughta hang every farken intolerant scumhole on sight!

Watcha reckon?

Cods, I can never understand why people get so upset about losing objects, unless they are something special.

Lose your house, your car......they are easily replaced. In the end only people matter.

Yeah I can't imagine why someone would be upset if they lost their home either.

Oh...now that I think about it, maybe because they no longer have a roof over their familys heads, and have lost what took them half a lifetime to acquire. That could have something to do with it.

you are not wrong.. but pete we live in such a materialistic world today..its the end of the world to lose the mobil phone..something that wasnt heard of about 25 years ago.. I often wonder how on earth we managed without instant communication..

I mean people talk and walk...not sure about showering.. but they can multitask whilst picking away on a phone 24/7..and if it doesnt take photos  or movies or show the latest scores..shock horror..

Good lord, no. Whaddya tike me for?

I'm an English bloke who didn't have a father after the age of 9, and I didn't own a car after the age of around 21.

I'll watch boxing and UFC at the drop of a hat. Soccer's good too.

I would have loved to have watched the Olympics on TV all these years, but unfortunately the Australian media has always had this curious belief that the only events Australians want to see is those with Australians competing ~ and to hell with showing the Olympic Games as a World event.

You guys have got a lot of growing up to do. There is no country more provincial and self-centred than Australia. You really must learn to be a little more worldly and less insecure as a nation.

These are American spellings which the Australians adopted.

Labor, but not yet 'harbor'.

'Movies' instead of films.

'Theatre' instead of cinema.

The American pronunciation for 'plant', but not for 'can't'.

The latest imported Americanism is the silly affectation of calling suburbs and townships 'cities'. Such as the 'city' of Parramatta ~ which in fact is nothing more than a suburb of Sydney.

And then the small township of Penrith is now described as a 'city'.

Utter nonsense, of course. It's the famous Australian cultural cringe hoping that by aping the Yanks they're improving themselves.

I even heard Talkback radio host John Laws using the American pronunciation of 'vase' soon after he had returned from a holiday in LA. Then he followed this by saying 'vase' as it has always been said in this country ~ and then followed this by saying ~ "which ever". What an idiot.

I once got 'corrected' by an Aussie for pronouncing 'clerk' as 'clark'. He insisted it was wrong unless I pronounced it as 'clerk'.

Utter nonsense again, of course.

And what the hell does 'No Standing' mean? Another idiotic Americanism adopted by You People.

'Daaaance' instead of 'dahnce' ~ Another Americanism.
