Boat people are not a problem. What the problem is is the opportunism of the old parties to turn a humanitarian issue to a xenophobic beat up just to garnish votes.
As for increasing tax on something unhealthy cods. You agree with taxing smoking yet not carbon pollution. Oh to be a hypocrite. |

I'll let you know when it happens but until then its a good way to get extra money to pay for the rising costs tobacco contributes to society and the health system. Without tobacco there would be many billions of dollars freed up for important public spending like education and infrastructure not to mention the many billions smoking costs businesses in lost productivity. |

As the Libs have accepted $3M from the tobacco industry over the past years, surely they must oppose this tax increase to keep their donation coming in?

What a hypocrite Kevin Rudd, you say your party does not accept donations from big tobacco yet you have no problems big pay rises for politicians funded by a massive taxes on smokers. the bloke better not campaign anywhere near my area because he might just get a thump in the head from me.

The Libs are not the ones going round saying they don't accept money from big tobacco are they. If anything Rudd's Team Labor accept more money from smokers as they have introduced more taxes on smokers then anyone. Its called creative accounting. They have been taking notes off Swan I think.

Remember this one?
http://www.latrobe.edu.au/news/articles/2009/opinion/turnbull-tax-proposal-has-merit "Turnbull tax proposal has merit Tweet 29 May 2009 First published on ABC Online 26 May 2009. In his response to the budget Malcolm Turnbull proposed a 3 cents per stick tax on cigarettes. This was proposed to fund a gap in the budget that arose through Turnbull’s opposition to abolishing Medicare tax concessions for certain high income citizens." Wow - put up smoke prices so high income earners are protected. That would get donations from the Baccy men AND the health Insurance Industry - clever thinking Turnbull! |
