Title: Who will win/won debate
Post by Merlin on Aug 11th, 2013 at 11:07am
The media rarely allow non leftists to win
election debates, no matter what, the biased
media will say that their love child castrati Rudd
has won the debate.

It wouldn't matter if castrati Rudd didn't say a word, because
this country is so full of leftist media the conclusion would always be castrati won....

So who do you think won or will win this election debate ?

We don't know who will win it, as it hasn't happened yet.  We do know Mr Rudd, is very good at debates.  Didn't he win the debate with Mr Howard, in 2007?.      :)

Rudd will win the debate. Abbott is useless on his feet, I'm surprised he agreed to any debates. Abbott's best bet is to STFU, he should win the election if he does.

Most people will be too busy counting how many times Kevni flicks his hair, licks his lips and mentions Abbott to care.  I note that Bolt has set up some app so people can use that "worm" to "judge" for themselves.

I won't be watching it. The less I see and hear from Krudd, the better.

Kevin will easily win the debate but the headlines across Murdochs media empire will be something like
"Tony wipes floor with timid Dudd"
Once Tony sold his arse to the worlds most powerful media mogul it was all over.

Krudd grows the front "fringe" of his hair to cover the bald receding "island" patch.  Tony is an athlete and wears his hair very short.  You don't want to have to flick the fringe when running or swimming.  ;)

More election debates, the better: Wong
August 09, 2013
The Australian

LABOR wants as many federal election debates as possible, its campaign spokeswoman Penny Wong says.

Senator Wong says the conditions of Sunday's debate are still being negotiated, but she says Labor wants more debates than the Liberals have offered.

"We are in the cart for as many debates as possible. Kevin Rudd's made that clear," Senator Wong told ABC radio in Melbourne.

"He offered to debate Tony Abbott, I think every week, in a number of debates between now and the election.

"Mr Abbott's been, I think, somewhat reluctant."      :(

The Liberals want Sunday leaders' debate plus two people's forums - one in western Sydney and one in Brisbane.

Sunday's debate will be held at the National Press Club at 6.30pm (AEST).

Tony just CAN'T win here
REGARDLESS of policy, ideology, vision, credentials, etc. ...

He's CRAP at debating
Rudd will DEMOLISH him - at every TURN - on every OCCASION

But he can't RUN AWAY
That'd look WORSE !

Rudd wins coin toss to speak first.      :)
Ninemsm.

With the traditional coin toss to decide speaking order, Labor campaign director George Wright called heads.

And that's what faced up when Press Club chief executive Maurice Reilly tossed the 1939 penny, provided by the former Canberra Services Club.

"We'll bat first," Mr Wright told Liberal campaign director Brian Loughnane.

The debate starts at 6.30pm Sunday with Mr Rudd speaking ahead of Opposition leader Tony Abbott in the hour-long event.      :)

Complain?
Labor - I think they've been absolutely hopeless, but nothing they've done has had any real adverse effect on me personally.

Coalition - I hated John Howard with a passion, but nothing the Coalition government did had any real adverse effect on me personally.

I don't really care who is in - it's all a bit of light fluff in the scheme of things - nothing much changes - Tax cuts here, a levy there... sh!t happens that affects other people like refugees, but that isn't me.

Life goes on.

The only source I found that had Abbott win that debate wasthe liberal party website.

a formal debate is not the same thing at all.  leaders can argue a case without charisma, public speaking skills and witty repartee.  public debates like tis are showmanship rather than substance.  The right answer, presented poorly loses while the silver-tongued orator wins based on skill of presentation.  Have you never been in a debate where it was your job to demolish an argument you 100% support?  Have you never seen a debate where the winner was someone defending a lie?

public debates are interesting but they rarely elicit much  truly valuable leadership information.

my channel 9 worm is doing the exact opposite.  Rudd opens his mouth to speak and it goes up.

You are correct.

Just goes to show the worm is worth nothing, and ought be given the boot except in closely controlled and measured circumstances.

I noticed when same sex marriage was discussed by Rudd there was a 70% dislike, and yet last years Galaxy Poll on the issue showed there was 65% popular support for the concept.

I watched this on 10 and they had a beleivability percentage rating from the public. Abbotts never got out of the 40's while Rudds never went out of the 50's and reached 60 percent at one stage. Abbott looked like a deer caught in the headlights most of the time and really showed that he was an intellectual lightwieght. Rudd demolished him, totally.

Not only did Rudd not answer the questions put to him in the debate tonight, he was caught out blatantly lying - most notably about the fictional plans of the Coalition to increase the GST despite numerous iron-clad assurances by Abbott that the GST will not and cannot change due to the fact that at least two current state governments are Labor and changes to the GST would require their approval (as well as the approval of all other states/territories).

Rudd also said when calling the election that it was about trust. He's struck out on that front already and tonight tried to say the election is about the economy. Well, he won't win on that point either. Not a single surplus since he won office from Howard in 2007 and the surplus Costello built up has turned into a debt fast approaching $300bn after Labor twice raised the debt ceiling.

Rudd also interjected numerous times despite David Spears practically telling him to shut up. He was not behaving like a statesman tonight - he was behaving like a man desperate to retain his inflated sense of importance and to be able to continue to serve his ego. Rudd clearly lost the debate tonight.

I get what you say, but it seems you did not notice the difference between what Rudd said and what Abbott said.  Rudd was a definite , "NO," and stated that it was not even part of any intended review, while Abbott said "NO," but refused to state that it would not be part of a review....thus not ruling it out.  He leant hard on the requirement that it could only change if all States agree, but he did not acknowledge that that is not a CONSTITUTIONAL requirement.......is is merely legislative, and Governments can change legislation at a whim.

I think there was a stark difference, and hence the room for speculation on what Abbott's real position is, given Hockey has said it is part of the equation and Bishop today on Bolt blurted out that they would increase taxation.

Kevin Rudd won it.

Not by any real knockout blow though.

I absolutely expected him to, he is a more polished orator in front of the camera and an audience.

Probably worth pointing out Turnbull would have wiped the floor with both of them but we don't have that choice.

I agree that it was more important for Rudd to win than Abbott, but I think that it was a clear Abbott win. Rudd looked to be lacking in confidence and out of sorts. Above all, he looked fake, and had to read from notes. Abbott didn't take notes, look confident and fresh.

Increasing taxation is one thing, talking about changing the GST is entirely something else. Rudd whines about not having enough money. Part of it is because he spends it faster than he gets it, but a big part of it is his handouts and tax cuts. He's like the drunk with a beer bottle - he slurps it down quickly and then wonders why there's none left. You can't lower taxes and then whine about not having enough money to pay for your plans - especially when you've got a debt fast approaching $300bn. Unfortunately, you either have to cut services or raise taxes to pay off the debt, or a combination of the two. Simply continuing spending and cutting taxes will result in you digging a deeper hole for yourself.

No one expected Abbott to win - they expect Rudd clearly dominate Abbott

They expect a victory tonight would re-invigorate their campaign

When that didn't eventuate - the lefties are left milling around wondering what happened

From Abbott's point of view - he knows he can keep up with Rudd in the personality stakes.

From Rudd's point of view - he might have realised he's not all that. If not the next debate will be see Abbott edge ahead even further

Yes.

Abbott has repeatedly said there wil be no GST change and that any such things in the future will be taken to an election.

And this from the party that said unequivocally that there would be no carbon tax!

... and the party that has been promising a surplus but failing to deliver anything but record deficits almost from the dawn of time!  ;D ;D ;D

And that's the end of any institutions economic credibility.
To forecast a deficit and get one is ok.
To repeatedly forecast surpluses but miss them is bad.
It ain't rocket science folks.

Abbott surprisingly failed to neutralise the GST rise thing. As far as I know it's BS, but Rudd made the point that there's no point reviewing anything if you're not going to change it. That sounded convincing and Abbott didn't counter.

Abbott lost on costing. Comprehensively.

the GST is a desperate ploy that Rudd needs to drop.  Apart from the fact that it isn't working, if he keeps up with he will start to look like a comprehensive liar. It has already been ruled out but unlike Labor who seem quite happy to make unequivocal promises and then break them, the GST WILL be part of a tax review for the parliament AFTER the next one.

I'm looking forward to further debates if they happen. These events happen once every three years. They come and go. I don't care if the presentations have low quality. I will watch them and evaluate them. It's nothing personal. I have seen plenty of lacklustre movies, just so I know everything I can possibly know about them.

The Only time I can recall anything significant coming out of a debate was Howard over Keating, not even sure if that translated into votes as Keating was pretty much toast anyway.

A good comment neferti and quite appropriate.

It was all ONE BIG YAWN!

It was all very predictable & neither Rudd nor Abbott went remotely close to addressing the real issues, in particular the Economic ones, mainly because neither Labor nor Liberal have any idea what the hell is going on and neither would be remotely interested in addressing the underlying Economic issues anyway, because that would interfere with their own "perceived" short term self interests & those short term interests of their supporters!!

Little does either Rudd/Labor or Abbott/Liberal realise that REALITY HAS NO INTEREST IN ANYONE'S SELF INTEREST, REALITY IS ONLY INTERESTED IN REALITY!!!

Kevin Rudd may have had a narrow victory in the first leaders' debate but the prime minister's performance was marred by his use of notes, in clear breach of the rules.

An average of three commercial television network polls taken after Sunday night's debate favoured Mr Rudd at 51 per cent to 49 per cent for opposition leader Tony Abbott.

dna has his head firmly planted in the sand.,..I thought the whole thing was pretty boring pretty predictable..to be honest.. did anyone hear anything they havent heard before???

I dont think so.. I think the major point made was..

You seem to have developed a habit of playing me instead of the topic or the points made ?????
