IT WAS a linguistic mix up that caught everyone's attention as Tony Abbott declared to a roomful of Liberal faithful this morning that no one can be a "suppository of all wisdom". The Opposition Leader made the gaffe at a campaign event in the Melbourne electorate of Deakin where he was implicitly criticising Prime Minister Kevin Rudd for running the government as a "one-man band". Oh Tony - you so crazy! |

Do you think it was a mistake or was he being genuine?

Just relax Cods, it was a funny slipup, nothing more, nothing less. Just a bit of light heartedness. It did make me think "yeah, might use that in reference to a couple of people I know next chance I get" and thats it. It wasnt cringeworthy. Lighten up mate, have a giggle and move on. You dont need to be in attack mode all the time, and more importantly, its not a bad thing to laugh at yourself at times. |

Have you become so serious that you cant have a joke or a laugh over something so silly? Dont you think Rudds mistakes from yesterday havent been well covered and discussed today? Lighten up mate. Also, selfies, who gives a crap, I certainly dont. And by the way, a slip of the tongue could land you in deep sh!t if your not careful................ |

Its the old follow up from the Italian who after forty years of marriage the wife asked her husband if he could answer two questions for her. She said "Tony, after a forty years of marriage I have to a ask, why is it you a always carry a hankerchief, and why you a never let me go on top during sex?" Fat Tony looked up at his wife of forty blissful years and said "On the day of our wedding, your papa a come up to me and said "You a listen to me son, from a dis day forward you make a my daughter happy, and you a keep ya nose clean and you never fu*k up". |

It brings back a memory from when I was working for a company and the Directors were less than desirable.
They would talk down to everyone and would go around using their slogan of the month thinking they were all inspiring. Me and another manager who submitted reports to the board went through these stages where we would see if the Board could actually pick up in our reports certain uses of words or phrases. When we noticed the use of the slogan style phrases we used to hit up google and we would pick one, and use it in our reports several times each. We then started to notice our slogans being repeated back to us and the staff as they attempted to use them. We used to enjoy using words out of context but something that wasnt totally obvious to see if it was picked up. The most enjoyable by far was using movie quotes or song titles in our report which all the fellow managers used to get a kick out of but the Directors had nothing. If I was still there I would definatley be using the suppository line for sure. |

That's possible, I don't usually have a TV or computer on the scaffold with me while I'm painting ceilings. Doesn't change the fact that I don't consider that he cheated. Nor the fact that if he had, the moderator should have called him on it then, not later. You don't rule a batsman out, or disallow a try after the game. |
Title: Re: I speak goodly! Post by longweekend58 on Aug 12th, 2013 at 7:32pm Kat wrote on Aug 12th, 2013 at 6:51pm:
using the sports metaphor since it might be all you are able to understand, even if the umpire makes a mistake that doesn't stop the fact that it was in error. If a batsman refuses to walk even though even person on the field and the stands heard it and the umpire doesn't, this doesn't then mean it didn't happen. Rudd cheated and the fact he wasn't called for it at the time does not in any way change the fact. and your OPINION doesn't count. he clearly and unequivocally breached rules and you are so far the only knuckle-head to not accept that. |

Terrribly sorry, but it does. Quite a lot. So what's your point, apart from disagreeing for the sake of it? My 'opinion' counts just as much as yours, or that of ANYONE else. And you or anyone else disagreeing doesn't make me wrong. ALL it means is that you disagree (as usual). So the abuse is unnecessary and unwarranted (again, as usual). And, if you can't reply to my posts without denigrating or abusing, please don't bother. If you think I'll allow myself to be driven from this forum by it (as has happened to others) then I'm afraid you're doomed to disappointment. We realise some of you'd like this forum to be simply a cheer-squad for the Liberal Party, but that isn't going to happen either. |

you don't get to have an 'opinion' on an established fact. that is called DELUSIONAL behaviour. Rudd cheated. He broke the rules. He even admitted it. the Moderator also confirmed it. But here you are saying it wasn't cheating. what drugs are you taking? |

What drugs are you taking? http://www.theaustralian.com.au/opinion/columnists/take-note-cheating-claims-against-kevin-rudd-dont-stack-up/story-fnbcok0h-1226695869546 As most polls scored Sunday night's election debate as a win for Kevin Rudd, some commentators and Coalition MPs were quick to brand Rudd as a cheat for using "notes". But the debate rules agreed to by the major parties do not prohibit the use of notes. In fact, they make no mention of "notes". Rule 12 was clear: "The leaders may have a pen and paper on the lectern and no other documentation or props." Rudd was entitled to have paper notes, either written or typed. This is the exact same rule that governed the 2010 debate when Julia Gillard squared off against Tony Abbott. And guess who used notes then? Abbott did. So if Rudd cheated in 2013, Abbott cheated in 2010. I think you should have a becks and a good lie down! We now know where Tony gets his policies from! :) |

Their just cranky as the campaign/election is a cake walk like they thought it would be.
The coalition will more than likely still win (55-60% chance) however if Tony keeps making gaffes like he has, he could snatch defeat from the jaws of history. I'd say it's all square with 25 days (and counting) until we vote. If I was either side I would focus on being positive and selling my message. |

speaking notes are not 'documentation'?? get over yourself. Even Rudd admitted it. And quoting a link that requires yet another logon ID that I don't want to bother with is rather useless. |
