Chocolate policemen.......basically railway/council employees, acting like idiots. I think we used to call them "jobs-worth" clowns. The British Transport Police, REAL police wouldn't do that sh1t, and they are the most widely spread police force in the UK with identical training, powers etc as the other constabularies, in fact it used to be very much harder to join the TP.

Your feet belong on the floor NOT where someone will/could be sitting.

Sorry to hear that Andrei but what if you had a piece of dog turd
on your shoes that you didn't know about & that got on the seat?

You have to think about the reasons why there are those laws.

No.

The point is Andrei thinks it's acceptable behaviour, for an adult, to put his feet up on the seat on public transport.

Normal adults don't do that sort of thing.

Wrong.  Public property needs to be treated with respect.

If an adult needs to be told that they should not have their feet up on the seat on public transport, there's something seriously wrong with that individual.

Fined him; the maximum penalty.  No questions asked.

An adult who thinks it's OK to put their feet up on the seat on public transport needs to learn some hard lessons, fast.

I still can't believe that he put his feet on the seat in the first place.

Not putting your feet on the seat is showing respect for other people.

Whose money pays to fix and replace worn out and broken public property? The people.
Who has to sit on the seat that has had someone's feet on it? Other people.
What are guards, police, inspectors, security, etc?  People!

Why should the person doing the wrong thing be shown respect (which by respect you actually mean allowing them to do anything they want), whilst they are the ones not showing any respect by doing the wrong thing in the first place.

He has already been told not to put his feet on the seat. Remember the picture of the sign on the last page? So since he knew not to do it but he did it anyway, why should he be told again?

That's why there is a fine. It is for those people who show no respect for the rules.

I would have:

1/ Asked the offender to remove his feet from the seat. Compliance = no further action.

2/ Non-compliance and/or an attitude, I would fine.

3/ If attitude/non-compliance continued, the offender would be removed from the train at the next stop.

I only once had to put a bloke (two, actually) off a train, but they were harassing/threatening other passengers, not
just breaching by-laws.

A decent adult would not need to have this explained to them.

But, typically, he got smart mouthed and lippy and was fined.

Now he is going to skip the country without paying. That sums him up nicely.

I think the term 'police state' has a more substantial definition than that. Speeding a few kms above an arbitrarily imposed limit in inherently safe conditions is far more onerous and still nowhere near the meaning of the term.

Unfortunately governments of late have decided to try and turn their police forces into a profit making enterprise, the unemployed shop lifter has been given carte blanche as arresting them will result in a net profit loss but the employed business man putting his feet on the seats is regarded as a profitable sale lifting the bottom line, he's just going to cough up, he isn't going to do community service thereby quadrupling his cost to the .Gov , same as road users, they may as well be milking cows, while they are driving home from work at 3 K's over the limit they are snapped and charged accordingly, meanwhile some drug addict front bottom is stealing their TV but theres no money in chasing that crime.

£50 fines for putting your feet on train seats
11 October 2007

Rail and Tube passengers who put feet on seats face £50 on-the-spot fines from British Transport Police.

Senior officers recognise that commuters often feel intimidated by low-level bad behaviour.

They believe it also leads to more serious disorder and to clashes when troublemakers are confronted.

Police are set to mount extra patrols as part of a major drive to reduce fear and cut crime on London's transport network.

The fines will vary according to the offence, rising to £80, and will double if not paid within 21 days.

Commuters today welcomed the crackdown and some called for it to be extended.

Dahlia Simms, 34, from Earl's Court, said: "The last thing you want is someone's dirty shoes on your seat but you can't say anything because you just don't know if you'll get stabbed

British Transport Police assistant chief constable Steve Thomas said: "People who put their feet on the seats are showing a lack of consideration for others.

Annalie York, 26, a business development manager, from Fulham, said: "I can't stand sitting down in your clean work clothes on a dirty seat where someone's shoes have been."

On Merseyside, local train operator Merseyrail has prosecuted 250 passengers for putting their feet on train seats

The plan also highlights the success of a similar "zero tolerance" in New York.

Ted's thin blue train line
February 18, 2012

THE Baillieu Government is building a $460,000 train station with no line and no services to coach armed guards to deal with crime.

The Government's promise to have 940 Protective Service Officers on stations by 2014 is looking shaky - police revealed there had been only 300 applications so far.

The first PSOs graduated yesterday at the Police Academy. They include a globe-trotting baker, a farmer, a fruit and vegetable stacker, a former policeman, a tradie, a marketing consultant and a chemical engineer.

The first intake of 18 PSOs will be deployed at Flinders St and Southern Cross, Richmond, North Melbourne and Footscray stations from Wednesday.

The pretend train station will be built at the Police Academy grounds, where PSOs will be confronted with scenarios of violence.
